Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

The words died on Wren Wynter’s lips the moment she saw the scene: Seraphina Sutton sitting intimately on Kaden Xavier’s lap, his hand resting right on her waist.

The corners of her mouth turned down in an expression of pure mockery. "Sorry to interrupt."

Dropping those icy words, Wren turned and left without a second’s hesitation.

’Grandma is barely cold in her grave, and Kaden already has the heart to flirt with Seraphina Sutton. Meanwhile, I’m the one who’s more anxious and concerned than her own grandson.’

In that moment, Wren felt an overwhelming sorrow for Grandma Xavier. ’She deserved so much better.’

"Kaden, I think Dr. Wynter might have misunderstood. Should I go explain it to her?"

Originally, Seraphina Sutton had only meant to hide in Kaden Xavier’s arms to stop the assistant secretary from pulling her away; she hadn’t expected to cause such a misunderstanding.

To her surprise, Kaden shoved her away, his expression darkening.

Caught off guard, Seraphina Sutton crashed to the floor.

"Ah! That hurts... Kaden, you..."

"Seraphina Sutton, if you call me that again, I’ll shut you up for good." The man’s low, smooth voice was laced with killing intent, and his entire demeanor grew colder, more unapproachable. "Five seconds. If she’s still in my office, all of you can get out of the Xavier Group."

The color drained from Seraphina Sutton’s face with his words.

The assistant secretary had been with Kaden for several years and had never seen him look so furious. They didn’t even dare to breathe.

The moment he finished speaking, Kaden rushed out of the office in pursuit of Wren.

"Wren, it’s not what you think," Kaden said urgently.

He was normally the epitome of composure, but right now, he was desperately holding the elevator doors open, his usual image shattered.

"You don’t have to explain anything to me. We’re not husband and wife anymore. Who you’re with has nothing to do with me."

Wren’s voice was cold, as hard as arctic ice, with none of the gentleness from the day before.

"I just didn’t expect you and Seraphina Sutton to be in such a rush. Grandma’s killer hasn’t even been found, and you’re already carrying on like this."

The thought of the cause of death described in the report made Wren’s heart feel as if it were being gnawed on by a swarm of insects.

Her eyes reddened uncontrollably as hot tears welled, threatening to spill.

"No, it’s not what it looked like. There’s nothing going on between me and Seraphina Sutton."

Kaden propped the elevator doors open with his body, grabbed both of Wren’s arms, and forcibly dragged her out.

"Kaden Xavier, let go of me!"

Burning with anger, Wren struggled relentlessly.

Kaden didn’t fight back, letting her fists rain down on him.

She wasn’t angry because of Kaden and Seraphina’s intimacy, but because Kaden had betrayed her trust.

’I had once again believed he would put aside his love life for Grandma’s sake, that he would genuinely search for the killer.’

’I was wrong.’

’No one is more important than his one true love.’

People passing by gawked at the scene, their eyes wide with surprise.

Kaden held Wren without a word. He glanced around, and the onlookers immediately scattered like startled birds.

"Wren, even a convicted criminal gets a chance to appeal. You should at least hear my side of the story."

Kaden restrained Wren with one arm and gripped her chin with his other hand, forcing her to look up at him.

Wren’s eyes were red, a lone tear clinging to her lashes. Her mix of indignation and anger was surprisingly cute.

Kaden’s gaze drifted to her red lips for a moment, but meeting her fiery glare, he finally regained his senses.

"I will find the person who killed Grandma, even if I have to chase them to the ends of the earth."

Knowing what was making Wren angry, Kaden didn’t waste any words, cutting straight to the point to calm her down.

"I was looking at the report when Seraphina Sutton barged in. The assistant secretary tried to make her leave, she lost her balance, and she fell on me. It wasn’t what it looked like."

"So, you’re saying Seraphina Sutton saw the autopsy report, too?"

Of everything Kaden had said, that was the one detail Wren latched onto.

At the thought that Seraphina Sutton might have seen the report, she grew so anxious that she forgot her anger at Kaden, immediately grabbing his arm and asking urgently.

"We haven’t even started the investigation; we can’t be sure who harmed Grandma yet. How could you let her see that report? If word gets out, how are we supposed to catch the real killer?"

"Dr. Wynter, are you arguing with Ka... with Kaden Xavier because of me?"

Before Wren could finish confronting Kaden, Seraphina Sutton’s voice suddenly came from behind them.

She walked over to Kaden and Wren, habitually reaching out to take Kaden’s arm.

Kaden pulled Wren aside, dodging her touch.

Seraphina was seething with rage.

’I already killed that old hag, so why is Kaden still acting like this?’

"You give yourself too much credit, Miss Sutton."

Before Kaden could reprimand Seraphina, Wren had already pulled away from him. She eyed Seraphina coldly, her expression full of scorn.

"Dr. Wynter, what happened earlier was truly a misunderstanding. Please don’t get the wrong idea and argue with him."

Despite Wren’s mockery, Seraphina, surprisingly, didn’t get angry. Instead, she spoke in a soft, gentle voice, feigning an understanding demeanor.

"I think I just heard you and Kaden talking about Grandma Xavier? I know you must be heartbroken that she passed away, but one must move on."

"You’re the CEO’s wife, so you can afford to stay home all day and do nothing. But Kaden can’t. He has to work every day. If you keep bringing up Grandma Xavier and upsetting him, he won’t be able to concentrate on his work."

Seraphina lectured Wren with a condescending air, so much so that an uninformed bystander might have thought *she* was Kaden’s wife.

Listening from the side, Wren found the whole thing laughable.

Before she could even lose her temper,

Kaden’s expression had already darkened. He didn’t even bother to speak to Seraphina, instead turning to the assistant secretary who had just caught up. "Why is she still here? Did you not understand my order?"

"I’m sorry, Mr. Xavier. Right away."

The assistant secretary glared at Seraphina and, without another word, grabbed her arm to drag her away.

"Kaden, no! You can’t do this to me! You forgot what you promised..."

Seraphina was being dragged away by the assistant secretary.

She didn’t want to go, clinging desperately to Kaden’s arm and refusing to let go.

She was pulling so hard that Kaden’s clothes were getting stretched out of shape.

SLAP!

Wren couldn’t stand it anymore, her hand striking Seraphina across the face.

Two more followed in quick succession, the crisp sounds echoing in the hallway.

Seraphina’s grip on Kaden’s arm went slack. She was too stunned to even cry out in pain.

Kaden: "..."

The assistant secretary: "..."

Wren said, "Since you refuse to listen to reason, I had to try a different approach."
