Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

Audrey Aldridge’s face fell.

She hadn’t expected Wren Wynter to interfere, and she certainly hadn’t expected Assistant Lynch to offer her a ride. She was resentful, but there was nothing more she could say.

"There’s no need, Miss Wynter, Assistant Lynch. I’ll just get a cab." Audrey Aldridge forced a stiff smile and turned to leave.

Wren Wynter watched Audrey Aldridge’s retreating back, a thoughtful glimmer in her eyes.

’That woman is trouble.’

Leo Crowe looked at Wren Wynter and gave a slightly embarrassed smile.

"Wren, thank you."

"It’s nothing." Wren Wynter shook her head. "Let’s go back. We have a lot of work tomorrow."

The group walked out of the hospital and went their separate ways.

Wren Wynter got into her car, but she couldn’t shake a feeling of unease.

She had a feeling Audrey Aldridge wouldn’t give up so easily.

Wren Wynter returned to View Gardens, and after washing up, she collapsed onto her bed in exhaustion.

However, the feeling of unease only grew stronger, making it hard to fall asleep.

She tossed and turned, her mind replaying the look in Audrey Aldridge’s eyes as she gazed at Leo Crowe, and her words, which seemed harmless but were full of schemes.

Just then, her phone suddenly rang. She picked it up and saw it was a call from Leo Crowe.

"Hello, Leo? What’s wrong? It’s so late." Wren Wynter answered the call, a hint of worry in her voice.

On the other end of the line, Leo Crowe’s voice was filled with suppressed rage and a touch of anxiety.

"Wren, you were right today. There really is something wrong with that Audrey Aldridge!"

Wren Wynter’s heart sank, and she immediately sat up.

"What happened? Give me the address. I’m on my way now!"

Leo Crowe gave her an address, and without a second thought, Wren Wynter grabbed her car keys and rushed out the door.

She sped all the way there, her heart pounding with anxiety. She knew Leo Crowe was always level-headed; for him to be this upset, something serious must have happened.

When Wren Wynter arrived at the address Leo Crowe had given her, she found it was an old, rundown residential complex.

She followed the building numbers to find the right unit. Just as she reached the entrance, she saw Leo Crowe standing there, his face ashen, gripping a woman’s arm. The woman was Audrey Aldridge.

Audrey Aldridge’s clothes were disheveled, her hair was a mess, and tear tracks stained her face. She looked like she’d had a terrible fright.

However, Wren Wynter saw a glimmer of resentment and malice in her eyes.

"Leo, what happened?" Wren Wynter walked forward and asked in a low voice.

When Leo Crowe saw Wren Wynter, his anger seemed to find an outlet. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Wren, look at this woman! She actually tried to seduce me!"

Leo Crowe pointed at Audrey Aldridge, his body trembling with rage.

Seeing Wren Wynter, a flash of panic appeared in Audrey Aldridge’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a look of aggrievement.

"Dr. Crowe, how could you say that about me? I just wanted to ask you some questions. How can you accuse me so unjustly?"

She wept pitifully, trying to win sympathy.

Wren Wynter ignored Audrey Aldridge’s performance. Her gaze swept over Audrey’s face, then to the closed door of the apartment.

She smelled a faint, sweet fragrance hanging in the air—the scent of a potent, disorienting incense.

Her expression immediately turned grave.

"Leo, go inside first and open the door," Wren Wynter said to Leo Crowe.

Though Leo Crowe didn’t understand, he did as she said.

He let go of Audrey Aldridge, walked to the door, and pushed it open.

Wren Wynter stepped into the room. The sweet fragrance was even stronger inside.

She saw an aromatherapy diffuser on the coffee table, wisps of smoke curling up from it.

Her eyes sharpened. She understood everything now.

"Audrey Aldridge, what else do you have to say for yourself?" Wren Wynter turned and looked at her coldly.

Seeing that Wren Wynter had discovered her trick, Audrey Aldridge’s face instantly twisted with rage.

She knew she’d been exposed, so she dropped the pretense.

"Wren Wynter! You bitch! What right do you have to get in my way? You think you’re so great? A divorced woman still trying to seduce men, acting all high and mighty!"

Audrey Aldridge shrieked hysterically, her eyes filled with jealousy and resentment.

Hearing Audrey Aldridge insult Wren Wynter, Leo Crowe’s face went pale with anger.

"Audrey Aldridge! Shut your mouth! Don’t you dare insult Wren!"

But Wren Wynter remained exceptionally calm. She looked at Audrey Aldridge with a hint of pity in her eyes.

"Audrey, do you really think you can get what you want with such low-handed tricks? Did you think that by bewitching Senior Crowe, you could win his heart?"

Wren Wynter’s words hit a nerve, and Audrey Aldridge retorted frantically.

"How are my tricks low-handed? I just want a man who loves me! You think you’re so noble? You just use your good looks to seduce men!"

Leo Crowe couldn’t take it anymore. He stepped to Wren Wynter’s side, shielding her.

"Audrey Aldridge, you listen to me and listen good! Wren is my junior sister and Elder Hawthorne’s most prized disciple!"

"Her medical skills are superb, her ethics are impeccable, and she’s completely devoted to her medical career. She wouldn’t stoop to your level of petty tricks!"

Leo Crowe’s voice was full of fury. He looked at Audrey Aldridge with undisguised contempt.

"You think Wren gets by on her looks? You’re dead wrong!"

"Even Elder Hawthorne never stops praising her medical skills! In the warzones in Aferia, she did the work of several doctors by herself! The number of lives she’s saved is something a person like you could never even imagine!"

Listening to Leo Crowe’s praise from the side, Wren Wynter shook her head with a helpless sigh.

She knew Leo was only saying these things to defend her.

"Audrey Aldridge, do you think you know Wren at all?" Leo Crowe continued.

"Do you think she’s just some ordinary woman? In the warzones in Aferia, facing endless artillery fire and life-or-death situations, she never once backed down!"

"With her own two hands, she snatched countless lives from the grip of death! Her medical skills are masterful, and her spirit is a model for all of us in the medical profession!"

The more Leo Crowe spoke, the more agitated he became. He looked at Audrey Aldridge with a scornful glint in his eyes.

"A woman like you, who only knows how to play cheap tricks and scheme, isn’t even worthy of being compared to Wren! Did you really think your little bit of incense could bewitch me?"

"What a joke! I, Leo Crowe, may not be a saint, but I know where the line is! I would never do anything to betray my wife!"

Audrey Aldridge was left speechless by Leo Crowe’s words. Her face was deathly pale, and her body swayed as if she might collapse.

She had never expected Leo Crowe to defend Wren Wynter so fiercely, nor that Wren held such a high place in his heart.

Wren Wynter looked at Audrey Aldridge, a complex mix of emotions in her eyes.

She knew that Audrey Aldridge’s jealousy and resentment stemmed from her own insecurity and sense of inadequacy.

"Audrey Aldridge, you should go," Wren Wynter said lightly. "Don’t show your face in front of us again."

Audrey Aldridge snapped her head up, her eyes filled with resentment.

"Wren Wynter, don’t you get cocky! I’m not done yet! One day, I’ll ruin you completely!"

Audrey Aldridge spat out the vicious threat, then scrambled out of the room in disgrace.

Wren Wynter watched Audrey Aldridge’s figure disappear into the night and sighed softly.

"Leo, are you okay?" Wren Wynter turned her head and asked Leo Crowe with concern.

Leo Crowe shook his head, his face still etched with anger.

"I’m fine. I’m just so pissed off! That woman is too outrageous!"

"I know you mean well, but with things like this, there’s no need to stoop to her level."

"Wren, you’re just too kind! With people like her, the more you tolerate them, the more they’ll take advantage!" Leo Crowe sounded exasperated with her.

"Alright, Leo, let’s go back," Wren Wynter said, tugging on Leo Crowe’s sleeve. "I’ll take care of things here."

Leo Crowe looked at Wren Wynter’s determined eyes and finally nodded.

He knew Wren Wynter had a mind of her own and trusted that she could handle these matters.

The two of them left Audrey Aldridge’s apartment, and Wren Wynter drove Leo Crowe home.
