Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

"Yes, yes, I’ll handle this impartially. I absolutely won’t show any favoritism." The middle-aged man had no intention of protecting Blondie now.

He wouldn’t have gotten a second thought on a good day, let alone now when the man’s own job was on the line. He couldn’t be bothered to care.

Blondie scrambled over to the middle-aged man, a terrified mess, and hugged his leg, begging desperately, "Boss, you can’t just leave me! I really know I was wrong this time. Please, just help me one more time, okay?"

"I’m not the one you should be begging. I can’t help you this time. Why did you have to provoke someone you shouldn’t have?" the middle-aged man said resentfully.

Blondie looked blankly at Wren Wynter, then started crawling toward her, snot and tears everywhere. But Zane Langley, who was standing nearby, blocked his path.

"Don’t you touch her with your filthy hands!"

"Okay, okay, I won’t touch her! I won’t! Miss, ma’am, my lady, please let me go! I was just confused for a moment, I swear! Please!"

Blondie kowtowed repeatedly to Wren Wynter and Lana Xavier, begging them to let him off.

Wren Wynter glanced impassively at Lana Xavier beside her and said lightly, "You decide."

Lana Xavier glanced timidly at Wren Wynter, looking like she wanted to say something but holding back. In the end, she just nodded.

Wren Wynter and Zane Langley went to the school infirmary.

Zane Langley was completely unconcerned about his minor injuries, but Wren Wynter thought it would be better to get them disinfected.

"Have you trained before?" Wren Wynter asked casually, leaning back in her chair while the school nurse was applying antiseptic to Zane Langley’s scrapes.

’Her intuition told her that Zane Langley was no ordinary grunt.’

"A little. What do you think, Ms. Wynter? Pretty cool, huh?" Zane Langley replied with a grin, sidestepping the question.

"Yes. But if you run into this kind of situation again, prioritize your own safety," Wren Wynter said, nagging him for once.

’Deep down, she was grateful to Zane Langley. If it weren’t for him, both she and Lana Xavier would have been in trouble.’

"Don’t worry, if I can’t win, I’ll run," Zane Langley said.

’But as a soldier, he couldn’t stand by and watch the weak being bullied.’

After they were patched up, Zane Langley insisted on walking Wren Wynter out.

As soon as they left the school, Wren Wynter saw Lana Xavier still waiting at the gate. Her little black dress and heavy, smoky eye makeup were very conspicuous.

’It looked good, but it didn’t really suit her.’

"Wren... S-Sister-in-law, is your friend badly hurt?" Lana Xavier ran awkwardly up to Wren Wynter, her voice trailing off.

Hearing the words "Sister-in-law," Wren Wynter froze for a moment, completely stunned by Lana Xavier’s sudden change of heart.

Zane Langley gave a nonchalant shrug. "Thanks for asking. I’m fine."

"That’s good. Thank you for saving me," Lana Xavier said politely, then turned to Wren Wynter. "About what happened today... can you not tell my brother?"

’So that’s what this was all about.’

Wren Wynter hid her surprise, pursed her lips, and said flatly, "Your brother and I are getting a divorce soon. I have no interest in telling him your business. But as for whether he’ll find out later... I can’t say."

’She had to give Lana Xavier a heads-up, just in case Kaden Xavier found out on his own later and Lana tried to pin the blame on her.’

Sure enough.

After hearing Wren Wynter’s words, the color drained from Lana Xavier’s face. Tears began to stream down her cheeks.

"Sob, sob... I really didn’t mean to get mixed up with those guys. I just got back to Cathay and didn’t have any friends. They helped me once, so I thought they were my friends... I didn’t know they were like this."

Although Wren Wynter understood, she couldn’t really empathize, so she didn’t comment.

"You don’t have to explain it to me. And also, remember to fix how you address me."

’In the three years she’d been married to Kaden Xavier, Lana Xavier had never once called her sister-in-law.’

She took out her phone and glanced at it.

"Ms. Wynter, let me take you home. It’s hard to get a ride during rush hour," Zane Langley stepped forward and offered.

Wren Wynter frowned in thought for a few seconds before agreeing. "Okay."

’She didn’t want a repeat of what happened last time.’

Hearing this, Lana Xavier quickly wiped her tears away. "Hey! I have a driver. I can give you a ride."

’Even though she didn’t particularly like Wren Wynter, the woman had saved her.’

’Looking at it that way, Wren Wynter wasn’t so bad after all.’

"Aren’t you afraid your driver will tell your brother about this?" Wren Wynter asked, raising an eyebrow slightly.

Lana Xavier pouted. "I am, but I usually just tell him not to tell my brother. Since you helped me today, I’ll give you a ride."

"No, thanks," Wren Wynter refused, making Lana Xavier stomp her foot in frustration. "Why not? Are you really planning to go home with a man? What will my brother do if he finds out?"

"Tough," Wren Wynter shrugged. "Besides, who I’m with has nothing to do with your brother. He doesn’t control me."

With that, she gestured to Zane Langley.

Zane Langley understood immediately.

Protective of her brother, Lana Xavier quickly blocked Wren Wynter’s path. "No! You can’t leave! I... I..."

As she spoke, she shoved Zane Langley aside, squeezed next to Wren Wynter, and grabbed her hand, pulling her toward a luxury car.

"I’m taking you home."

"My student taking me is the same thing."

"No! I have to be the one to take you!" Lana Xavier insisted, stubbornly pulling her along. She shoved Wren into the car, then turned back to stick her tongue out at Zane Langley. "I don’t want to owe you any favors."

’Wren Wynter’s head was starting to ache.’

’Whatever. It was all the same if Lana Xavier took her home.’

"Zane Langley, you can head back now!" Wren Wynter said with a wave.

Zane Langley watched until the car disappeared from sight before reluctantly heading back into the school.

Wren Wynter turned to look out the car window, not feeling the slightest bit awkward about being alone in the same space as Lana Xavier.

Lana Xavier, on the other hand, was on pins and needles, occasionally sneaking glances at Wren Wynter in the rearview mirror.

"You... why do you have to divorce my brother? Is he not good enough?"

"He’s great. We’re just not a good match."

"What’s not a good match? Didn’t you used to like my brother the most? Why are you so determined to divorce him this time?"

Wren Wynter looked at Lana Xavier playfully. "Don’t you dislike me?"

Lana Xavier turned her head away with a huff and muttered, "You’re much better than that... that Seraphina Sutton."

"Don’t worry. Neither she nor I will end up as your sister-in-law," Wren Wynter said nonchalantly.

Lana Xavier was startled and whipped her head around to look at Wren Wynter.

’She had always thought her brother was in love with Seraphina Sutton.’

"This is my stop," Wren Wynter said.

The car stopped. She pushed the door open and got out.
