Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

"Thank you," Finn Wynter said sincerely.

In the hallway, a few passing doctors and nurses were also whispering, "Dr. Wynter is truly amazing. She handled such a complex surgery perfectly."

"Exactly. Her teamwork with Dr. Shaw was absolutely seamless."

"I heard she’s the one who saved Old Madam Xavier, too. Even though she ended up in a vegetative state, just keeping her alive was a huge accomplishment..."

These hushed conversations reached the ears of Kaden Xavier, who happened to be passing by.

He stood at the far end of the hall, his gaze fixed on Wren Wynter. She was the center of attention, her face radiating a confident, easy smile that was impossible to look away from.

A strange emotion suddenly stirred within him—something bitter, something sour.

His eyes darkened. Without a moment’s hesitation, Kaden Xavier strode through the crowd and seized Wren Wynter by her pale wrist. "Come with me. I need to ask you something."

Startled by his sudden move, Wren Wynter hadn’t even had time to react before Finn Wynter stepped in front of her.

"Kaden Xavier, what do you think you’re doing? Let go."

Kaden Xavier stared at Finn Wynter, his expression unreadable. "This is between her and me. It’s none of your business."

Finn Wynter didn’t back down an inch. "Then try me."

The two faced off, the tension between them thick enough to cut with a knife. Neither was willing to yield in the slightest.

Seeing the confrontation, the doctors and nurses nearby began to whisper among themselves.

Seeing the stubborn set of Kaden Xavier’s jaw—a look that said he wouldn’t back down until he got what he wanted—Wren Wynter gently pushed Finn’s hand away. "It’s okay," she said softly. "I’ll just talk to him for a minute."

Finn Wynter frowned. "Wren..."

"Don’t worry. We’re just in the hallway. Nothing will happen," Wren said, then gave Kaden Xavier a cool, distant look, as if he were a stranger. "Let’s go."

Kaden Xavier’s lips tightened, turning red from the pressure.

The two walked to the window at the end of the hallway.

"What did you want to say? Make it quick. I’m busy," Wren Wynter said, her patience clearly worn thin.

Her attitude, as if she couldn’t get away from him fast enough, made Kaden Xavier’s brow knit together. It took him a moment before he asked in a rough, low voice, "Did you intentionally not save Seraphina Sutton’s baby? With your medical skills, if you’d been willing to intervene, would the baby have survived?"

Instead of anger, Wren Wynter laughed, her smile dripping with sarcasm.

"Kaden Xavier, do you think I’m Asclepius reincarnated, able to cure any and every illness?"

"But did you even try?" Kaden Xavier stared intently at her, watching her every subtle shift in expression, refusing to miss a thing.

"’Try?’" Wren Wynter’s gaze went cold, her voice becoming heavy and strained. "Kaden Xavier, do you have any idea what medical ethics are? Do you understand that some things are simply not possible? I’m not a god; I can’t save everyone. And besides, even if I could have, why would I save someone who has done nothing but try to set me up?"

She paused before continuing, "And another thing. I reminded you that Seraphina Sutton’s pregnancy was always high-risk. She knew that perfectly well herself. She knew her health was poor, yet she insisted on coming here to cause a scene with me. When the worst happened, she shifted all the blame to me. Kaden Xavier, do you really think that was all just a coincidence?"

Kaden Xavier was stunned.

’He remembered how careful Seraphina always was when she talked about the baby. He remembered her saying how the baby was so well-behaved, how it never gave her any trouble. And he remembered how, on the very day of the miscarriage, she had insisted on going to apologize to Wren...’

’Could she really have done it on purpose?’

’But Seraphina loved that child so much. How could she possibly induce her own miscarriage?’

And yet, Wren’s words planted a seed of doubt he couldn’t ignore.

"Kaden Xavier, there’s nothing left for us to talk about." Wren met his dark eyes, the last stirrings of emotion in her heart finally settling. "We’ll file the paperwork as soon as the cooling-off period is over. From now on, please don’t come looking for me again."

After speaking, she turned and left without giving him another glance.

When Wren Wynter returned to Grace Wynter’s room, Finn immediately rushed over. "Wren, are you okay?" he asked worriedly. "He didn’t do anything to you, did he?"

"I’m fine." Wren shook her head. "Finn, I’m leaving Aunt Grace in your care. I have something else to take care of, so I have to go."

"Alright. Go do what you need to do."

Wren Wynter left the hospital room and, after a moment’s thought, decided to go see Old Madam Xavier.

Even though she was divorcing Kaden Xavier, she would always remember how kind Old Madam Xavier had been to her.

As she reached Old Madam Xavier’s hospital room and was about to push open the door, she heard voices from within.

"Dr. Wallace, looking at my mother’s condition... is there really no way to wake her up?"

It was Helen Sawyer’s voice.

An elderly voice replied, "Mrs. Xavier, the old madam suffered a massive stroke. It’s a miracle her life was saved at all. Waking her up... that will be difficult."

"But Wren Wynter said daily acupuncture might help..."

"Acupuncture?" the elderly voice scoffed. "What good is acupuncture alone? It’s nothing more than a placebo. If you ask me, you’d be better off trying my special remedy."

Wren Wynter frowned and pushed open the door.

Inside the room, besides Helen Sawyer and Lana Xavier, stood an elderly man in a traditional long gown who looked like a practitioner of traditional medicine.

Seraphina Sutton and Nathaniel Quinn were also there, standing by the bed.

Everyone froze for a moment when they saw Wren Wynter walk in.

"Wren, what are you doing here?" Helen Sawyer asked, looking somewhat awkward.

"I’m here to give Grandma her acupuncture treatment," Wren said calmly, her eyes landing on the elderly man. "And who might this be?"

"This is Miracle Doctor Wallace. Seraphina specially invited him to see your grandmother," Helen Sawyer explained. "Miracle Doctor Wallace has many special remedies. He might be able to wake Mom up." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Wren’s eyes fell on this so-called "Miracle Doctor Wallace." He was holding a pouch of unidentifiable herbs and was about to apply them to Old Madam Xavier.

Her expression hardened. She strode forward and commanded, "Stop!"

Miracle Doctor Wallace’s hand trembled, and the herbs fell to the ground.

"What do you think you’re doing?" Lana Xavier demanded. "Miracle Doctor Wallace is treating Grandma!"

"Treating her?" Wren’s gaze turned cold, fixed on the spilled herbs. "What is this? Has it been approved by any regulatory agency? Is there any clinical trial data? You’re just going to slap it on Grandma without a second thought? What if something goes wrong?"

Miracle Doctor Wallace’s face went pale, but he tried to feign composure. "Wh-what do you know! This is my family’s ancestral secret formula!"

"’Ancestral secret formula?’" Wren scoffed. "Then let me ask you, Miracle Doctor Wallace, what are the ingredients in your formula? What is its mechanism of action? Does it have any side effects?"

Miracle Doctor Wallace was rendered speechless.

Wren turned her cool gaze on Seraphina Sutton. "Grandma’s condition is precarious. Any improper treatment could be life-threatening. If you genuinely want to help her, then please put your faith in science and conventional medicine."

Seraphina’s face flushed crimson. Her eyes grew red-rimmed and she pouted, looking deeply wronged as tears welled up, threatening to spill.

Wren had no patience for this damsel-in-distress act. She turned back to Miracle Doctor Wallace. "Sir, you claim your ancestral formula can awaken someone from a vegetative state. In that case, can you please tell me how many patients you’ve successfully cured with this method?"

Her aggressive questioning made Miracle Doctor Wallace’s face shift between pale and flushed. He stammered, "Th-this is a formula that’s been in my family for generations! It’s saved lots of people..."

"A specific number?" Wren pressed, relentless. "Where are the case files? The patient follow-up records? And which medical institution has certified this treatment method of yours?"

"What does a little slip of a girl like you know!" Miracle Doctor Wallace, flying into a rage from the humiliation, pointed a finger at Wren’s face. "I’ve been practicing medicine for decades! I’ve cured more patients than you’ve ever even seen! Who are you, some half-baked doctor, to question me?"

His blustering, incoherent response made even Helen Sawyer and Lana Xavier start to have second thoughts.

Just then, the hospital room door was pushed open again, and Kaden Xavier walked in.

Seeing so many people, he frowned deeply. "What’s going on?"
