Wren Wynter didn’t open the door. She turned to go back to the living room.

But the doorbell rang incessantly, and Kaden Xavier’s voice came through the door. "Wren, open up. I know you’re in there."

Wren Wynter clenched her fists, took a deep breath, and turned to open the door. "What is it?" she asked distantly.

Kaden Xavier stood outside, dressed in a black suit. His tie was slightly loosened, and his hair was a bit messy, giving him a somewhat disheveled and languid air.

But only just.

When he saw Wren Wynter, a complex look flashed in his eyes. "I came to see you."

"I’m fine. No need for Captain Xavier to trouble himself."

The use of "Captain Xavier" drew a clear, sharp line between them.

"If there’s nothing else, please leave."

As she spoke, she started to close the door, but Kaden Xavier reached out, blocked it with his hand, and forcefully squeezed his way inside.

"Kaden Xavier, what are you doing?" Wren Wynter took a step back, watching him warily.

Kaden Xavier closed the door, his scorching gaze fixed on Wren Wynter.

The warm light of the living room fell upon her, accentuating her fair skin and cool, distant eyes.

She stood just a few steps away, yet it felt as if they were separated by mountains and rivers.

"Wren, stop fooling around." Kaden Xavier buried his face in the crook of her neck, his voice muffled. "I missed you. Come home with me, okay? Let’s not get a divorce."

Wren Wynter didn’t move, her expression unruffled.

She remembered the things Nathaniel Quinn had said today, remembered the provocative photos Seraphina Sutton had sent, and a wave of nausea suddenly rose in her throat.

She shoved Kaden Xavier away forcefully and rushed into the bathroom, dry-heaving.

Kaden Xavier stood frozen, his face turning paler and paler as he watched Wren Wynter retching over the sink.

’She... finds me disgusting?’

Wren Wynter splashed her face with cold water and looked up, seeing Kaden Xavier in the mirror. He was standing at the bathroom door, a grim expression on his face as he stared at her.

He strode forward, yanked Wren Wynter toward him, and held her in a tight embrace.

Just then, Kaden Xavier’s phone rang.

He glanced at the caller ID. It was Seraphina Sutton.

Wren Wynter saw the name on the screen too and sneered, "Go on, answer it. Your sweetheart is calling for you."

Kaden Xavier didn’t answer. He frowned and explained with a hint of exasperation.

"Haven’t I told you? My relationship with Seraphina isn’t what you think."

"Oh," Wren Wynter replied perfunctorily.

Seraphina Sutton’s calls kept coming, one after another, tirelessly.

Finally, Kaden Xavier answered the phone. "What is it?"

Seraphina Sutton’s tearful voice came from the other end. "Kaden, the power’s out at my place. I’m all alone in the apartment and I’m so scared. Can you come and stay with me?"

Kaden Xavier frowned. "If the power’s out, call an electrician. Why are you calling me?"

"I... I’m scared..."

Kaden Xavier glanced at Wren Wynter.

Wren Wynter had already turned away, no longer looking at him.

"I understand." Kaden Xavier hung up and said to Wren Wynter, "Something’s come up with Seraphina Sutton. I have to go check on her."

Wren Wynter didn’t turn back, saying coolly, "Take care, Captain Xavier. I won’t see you out."

Only after hearing the door close did Wren Wynter slowly turn around and look at the empty living room.

The next morning, just as Wren Wynter got out of bed, she heard the sound of people moving things downstairs.

Puzzled, she went downstairs to see several workers moving furniture into the living room, with Kaden Xavier standing to the side, directing them.

"What are you doing?" Wren Wynter’s face darkened.

Kaden Xavier crossed his arms and said matter-of-factly, "Since you won’t come home, I’ll just move in here. This is our home too, after all."

Wren Wynter could hardly believe her ears. "Kaden Xavier, are you insane? We’re already divorced!"

"I told you, I never agreed to a divorce." Kaden Xavier walked up to Wren Wynter. "The divorce papers were signed without my knowledge, so they don’t count. Besides, we never got a divorce certificate. Wren, I’m not divorcing you."

"You..." Wren Wynter was speechless with anger. She pulled out her phone. "I’m calling the police right now."

"Go ahead," Kaden Xavier said, unfazed.

"When the police get here, I’ll just tell them we’re a married couple having a fight and that I’m trying to coax my wife to come home. Do you think the police will get involved?"

Wren Wynter’s hand, holding the phone, began to tremble.

She knew Kaden Xavier was telling the truth. With the Xavier Family’s influence, the police would only try to mediate and reconcile them.

"Kaden Xavier, what on earth do you want?"

"I don’t want anything." Kaden Xavier reached out to touch Wren Wynter’s face, but she dodged him.

Wren Wynter went upstairs and shut herself in her room, but when she opened the closet, she found it completely empty.

She stormed downstairs. "Kaden Xavier, where are my things?"

"Just do as I say." Wren Wynter closed the door and sat back down at the desk.

Downstairs in the dining room, Kaden Xavier sat alone at the table, staring at the empty seat opposite him, his eyes dim.

Kaden Xavier nodded. "Keep the food warm. She can eat when she gets hungry."

She lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling with her eyes wide open, unable to fall asleep.

After an unknown amount of time, the sound of a key turning in the lock came from the door.

Wren Wynter shot up and saw Kaden Xavier push the door open and walk in.

"You... How did you get in?" Wren Wynter watched him warily.

Kaden Xavier dangled a key from his hand. "I asked Butler Chandler for the spare."

Wren Wynter’s face paled. She clutched the blanket tightly. "Kaden Xavier, what are you planning to do?"

Kaden Xavier walked to the edge of the bed and sat down. A smirk played on his lips. "Wren Wynter, let’s have a child."
