Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

"I... I’ll do it." Seraphina Sutton’s eyes grew red. She bowed her head, and tears began to stream down her face, ruining her makeup. "Kaden, I promise I’ll work hard. Please don’t be mad at me, okay?"

Kaden Xavier didn’t answer. Without giving Seraphina Sutton so much as another glance, he strode away.

Joy Lynch and Claire Shaw, who had witnessed the entire scene from the sidelines, were utterly astonished.

’Has Kaden Xavier had a change of heart?’

’His attitude toward Seraphina Sutton did a complete one-eighty.’

Back in the office, Joy Lynch eagerly called Wren Wynter to tell her what had happened.

"You should’ve seen the look on Seraphina Sutton’s face! It was absolutely foul. I never thought I’d see the day. It was so satisfying!"

Joy Lynch’s laughter echoed throughout the office.

She felt incredibly gleeful. The mere thought of Seraphina Sutton’s crestfallen expression made her want to clap and cheer.

"Still, I never would’ve guessed Kaden Xavier would give Seraphina Sutton a janitorial position. Isn’t she supposed to be the apple of his eye?"

Wren Wynter was surprised too. "But Seraphina Sutton brought this all on herself."

Just as she looked up, she saw Mason Shaw running toward her office. She quickly said goodbye to Joy Lynch and hung up.

"We have a difficult case in the ER. I need you to come with me, Dr. Wynter." Mason Shaw’s face was etched with anxiety.

"Okay."

The two of them arrived at the hospital entrance to find a man covered in blood lying on a stretcher.

Blood was still gushing from his thigh.

"What’s going on? Why is the patient still out here?" Wren Wynter was angered by the irresponsibility. "He’s going to bleed to death if he stays here any longer."

"I know, but his wife refuses to allow surgery. The patient is in a coma and can’t give consent, so we had to leave him here for now," a nurse explained.

They were helpless when faced with family members like this.

Wren Wynter strode forward and saw a middle-aged woman kneeling on the ground, one hand gripping the side of the stretcher.

Two security guards surrounded her, but they were at a loss as to what to do.

Wren Wynter’s brow furrowed. She quickly listened to the patient’s heart with her stethoscope.

It was extremely weak, almost inaudible.

"He’s lost too much blood. If we don’t intervene now, no one will be able to save him," Wren Wynter said calmly. She then turned to a nearby nurse. "Get me a Foley catheter, a 14-gauge needle, an arterial guidewire, an occlusion balloon, and twenty milliliters of saline. Now!"

The nurse gave Mason Shaw a helpless look, then turned and left.

Confused, Mason Shaw asked, "Dr. Wynter, what are you doing?"

But Wren Wynter didn’t answer. She took the equipment from the nurse and began to work calmly in front of him.

In a short while, she successfully stopped the bleeding.

Mason Shaw watched all of this with delighted surprise, an unconscious smile spreading across his face.

"It’s a REBOA device. It stands for Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta," Wren Wynter stated calmly. "Take the patient."

"No! You can’t take him!" The middle-aged woman tightened her grip on the stretcher and stood up. "I won’t let you save him. He deserves to die."

Wren Wynter’s expression hardened. She stepped forward, grabbed the woman’s wrist, and with a deft twist, forced her to release her grip.

"Please move her aside."

Even though she didn’t understand why the woman was trying to stop them, Wren Wynter couldn’t just stand by and watch a patient die.

She also firmly believed the middle-aged woman must have had a reason for her actions.

With the woman no longer obstructing them, the nearby nurses and doctors quickly wheeled the patient to the emergency room, leaving only Mason Shaw and Wren Wynter behind.

"No, you can’t do this! I’m his wife! You can’t operate without my consent, or I’ll file a complaint against you!"

"If you want to file a complaint, we won’t stop you."

At her words, both Mason Shaw and the middle-aged woman froze, staring blankly at Wren Wynter.

"As doctors, our only responsibility is to save lives. Everything else is outside our purview. Since he was brought to our hospital, we have to ensure that as long as there’s a chance, he walks out of here alive and well."

Without another look at their reactions, she turned and hurried after the medical team toward the resuscitation room.

Although the man had been hemorrhaging and looked terrifying, he had fortunately been brought in time to prevent irreversible damage. The surgery was straightforward.

「One hour later.」

Wren Wynter took off her blue surgical mask and breathed a sigh of relief.

Mason Shaw followed her out of the resuscitation room, unable to hide his admiration for her.

"Dr. Wynter, you were truly brilliant today."

"I wouldn’t say brilliant," Wren Wynter said modestly. "The patient lost a lot of blood, so he’ll need some time to recover."

Just then, the middle-aged woman from the lobby suddenly rushed over. She seized Wren Wynter’s hand, her eyes practically splitting with rage as she glared at her.

"How is the man in there?"

Assuming she was worried about the patient’s condition, Wren Wynter reassured her softly, "Don’t worry, the surgery went smoothly. He should be able to go home after resting for a couple of days."

But as soon as she finished speaking, the woman let out a piercing shriek. Her face contorted into a savage mask, her eyes, full of hatred, locked onto Wren Wynter.

"Why did you save him? Why did you save a murderer!"

"A murderer?" Wren Wynter was shocked.

The middle-aged woman stretched out a hand, pointing toward the resuscitation room and roaring in fury, "That monster! He’s a murderer! He killed his own daughter with his bare hands! And he tried to kill me, too!"

The woman’s words left both Wren Wynter and Mason Shaw stunned.

They never imagined this was the reason behind it all.

Mason Shaw frowned.

’If that’s the case, then maybe they really shouldn’t have saved him.’

Wren Wynter, however, was uncharacteristically calm, simply meeting the woman’s gaze.

"If that’s true, you should report it to the police. As a doctor, whether the patient is a criminal or a murderer, I have to save them. In my eyes, he is only a patient."

’She sympathized with the woman, but her duty wouldn’t allow her to be indifferent to a human life.’

’Just like how she was a doctor, but couldn’t save her own family.’

’It was a helplessness she had no answer for.’

"Ma’am, getting blood on your hands for a man you hate isn’t worth it. Why not let the law punish him instead? What do you think?" Wren Wynter tried to reason with her patiently.

Mason Shaw was surprised that Wren Wynter could say such things so calmly, so coldly.

He turned his head sharply but couldn’t quite make out the expression on her face.

"If you need it, I can help."

"I don’t need help! I just want him dead!" The middle-aged woman clearly hadn’t listened to a word Wren had said.

’Wren knew that when a person lost all reason, they couldn’t hear anything you said.’

She pressed her lips together, moved to walk around the woman, and planned to change her clothes before coming back to console her.

But suddenly, a small knife appeared in the woman’s hand. The madness and hatred in her eyes consumed her like a tempest.

"You’re in this together! You’re all in this together!"

The middle-aged woman roared and lunged at Wren Wynter. In the blink of an eye, she viciously thrust the fruit knife at her.

By the time Mason Shaw could react, the blade of the knife had already sunk completely into Wren Wynter’s body.

"Ngh—"

Caught completely off guard, Wren Wynter coughed up a mouthful of blood.
