Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

At the time, he’d seemed to give an ambiguous reply: "None of your business." Thinking back, she realized he probably just didn’t want to get involved with her.

She had been the one foolishly thinking he denied it because he liked her.

"Oh, right, Dr. Wynter, I’ve seen your résumé. I recall under ’Marital Status,’ it said you were married. So, where does your husband work?"

Someone had noticed Wren nearby and directed the topic of conversation to her.

Wren snapped back to the present, raising an eyebrow slightly. Her gaze swept mockingly over Kaden Xavier and Seraphina Sutton.

The color drained from Seraphina Sutton’s face.

A smirk played on Wren’s lips as her mischievous side flared up. She intentionally dragged out her words, "My husband? Oh, his last name is Xavier. And he’s a pilot, too."

"What a coincidence!? What’s his name? Does he work for our airline?"

"Since it’s such a coincidence, you should call him and have him come hang out!"

"Yeah, if he works here, that makes us colleagues! We might have even met before."

The drama-loving crowd was already starting to egg her on.

After all, everyone wanted to see what a beautiful woman’s husband looked like!

"Sure!"

When Seraphina Sutton saw Wren about to make the call, she looked as if she were sitting on pins and needles, mouthing at her not to do it.

Kaden Xavier’s face fell, and a shadow crossed his cold eyes as he looked at Wren.

"Wren."

Wren ignored Kaden Xavier’s warning.

"Kaden!" Seeing this, Seraphina Sutton grew so agitated her nails dug into her palms. With her eyes turning red, she looked at Kaden Xavier. "Tomorrow is the anniversary of Asher’s death. Can you come with me to buy something for him?"

Asher Lynch was an eternal sore spot in Kaden Xavier’s heart.

A flash of conflict appeared in his eyes. "Alright!"

He then said goodbye to the others and left with Seraphina Sutton.

Wren watched their retreating backs and sneered inwardly.

’Scared already?’

’Seraphina Sutton really has no backbone. If Kaden Xavier weren’t protecting her, she’d be eaten alive without a single bone left if she ever married into the Xavier Family.’

She didn’t bother continuing with the phone call, simply brushing them off with the excuse that her husband was busy.

After all, the main players were gone; there was no point in continuing the performance.

It was well after midnight when the party ended.

Wren took a cab home. The moment she stepped through the door, she heard a man’s low growls and a woman’s panting from Crystal Nash’s room.

She wasn’t a child.

She’d experienced it herself.

She knew exactly what was happening in there.

It seemed what Crystal Nash had said was true: whenever Hugh Hale was home, they did this every day.

Joy Lynch had once asked what she saw in Hugh Hale, and Crystal Nash had answered without a shred of coyness, "He’s great in bed!"

Wren quickly shook her head to dispel those thoughts. Face flushing, she tiptoed upstairs.

’Looks like I need to find a time to move out, and fast.’

’Otherwise, it’ll be even more awkward running into them when they come out to shower afterward!’

Wren collapsed onto her bed, sighing as she stared up at the stark white ceiling.

BUZZ BUZZ—

Her phone vibrated.

Kaden Xavier and Mason Shaw had both messaged her.

Out of habit, she tapped on Kaden Xavier’s message first. It was a barrage of demands.

[Where are you?]

[Why aren’t you home?]

[Wren, stop fooling around and come home. I have a gift for you.]

[Why aren’t you answering my messages? Wren, my patience is limited. If you come back right now, I’ll forgive you for embarrassing Seraphina.]

Staring at the texts, even the normally good-natured Wren couldn’t help but roll her eyes. She deleted them without a second thought.

’He’s unbelievable. Like I need his forgiveness?’

’Besides, what did it have to do with me? Everything I said was the truth.’

’If Seraphina Sutton likes to monopolize other women’s husbands, she shouldn’t be afraid of being called out on it.’

As if struck by a thought, Wren opened her chat with Kaden Xavier again.

[Day after tomorrow, 10 AM. Civil Affairs Bureau. See you there.]

He replied instantly.

[What do you mean?]

Wren couldn’t be bothered to continue the exchange with him, so she tapped on Mason Shaw’s chat instead.

[Miss Wynter, have you given it some thought? Any interest in jumping ship?]

The City First Hospital was apparently government-backed and belonged to neither the Yates Family nor the Xavier Family. To get a position there, one had to pass an examination.

[Are you offering to pull some strings for me, Dr. Shaw?]

[For you, Dr. Wynter, it’s not out of the question.]

Wren’s heart skipped a beat.

She didn’t believe he could use his position to pull strings for her at the City First Hospital.

Besides, she didn’t need him to.

[Sorry, Dr. Shaw, I’ll think about it some more.]

After sending it, she tossed her phone aside.

She still preferred the idea of going back to work with her mentor.

Over the years, Kaden Xavier had been quite generous with her financially, so she wasn’t short on money and wasn’t in a hurry to find a job.

Today was Wren’s last day at the airline. She just had to complete the handover to Claire Shaw, and then she would be officially resigned.

As soon as she got to the office, she ran into Felix Vance.

"Good morning, Dr. Wynter. I heard you distinguished yourself on your last trip; the company’s planning to give you a bonus."

Wren gave a faint smile.

She probably wouldn’t get this bonus for another month. She didn’t want to delay any longer, so she decided to just forget about it.

"I’m here today to process my resignation."

Felix Vance was a little surprised, then his expression turned serious.

"Does Cole know?"

"He doesn’t."

"I get it."

"You’re not going to snitch to him, are you?" Wren raised an eyebrow, half-joking.

Felix Vance put on a wounded look. "Dr. Wynter, do you really think that’s the kind of person I am?"

Wren hadn’t expected Felix Vance to take her side. "No, of course not," she said quickly.

Felix Vance glanced at his watch. "You should go. Cole gets to the office in half an hour, and you don’t want to run into him."

"Okay, thanks."

Wren turned and walked towards the director’s office.

A trace of regret and sadness flashed in Felix Vance’s eyes.

’It’s Cole who doesn’t know how to cherish what he has.’

’I hope she can live the life she wants after she leaves.’

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

"Come in!"

Wren walked into the director’s office with her resignation form.

"Director, I’m here to process my resignation."

Wren handed the resignation form to the director.

The director looked at Wren with a complicated expression and sighed.

"You’re sure you won’t reconsider?"

"I’m sure."

The director felt a great deal of regret, but Kaden Xavier had already signed off on it. Even if she wanted to keep Wren, she couldn’t.

’And to think we were all just at a dinner party together yesterday.’

She signed Wren’s resignation form and handed it back to her.

"Go finish the handover of your duties, and then you’ll be free to go."

"Okay, thank you, Director."

Wren gave the director a deep bow to express her gratitude.

The director had looked out for her quite a bit during her time at the company.
