Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

In the following days, she began to spread rumors about Wren Wynter around the hospital.

"Did you hear? That Miss Wynter doesn’t have any real skills. She’s just using her connection with Elder Hawthorne to pad her resume."

"I’d say she’s just here for show. All she does is sit around reading files all day. How is that like a doctor?"

"I heard she’s divorced, too. A woman like that should be at home with a husband and kids, not parading herself around in public. And working on a project with a bunch of men? Who knows what she’s really after."

These rumors spread quickly throughout the hospital, and some of the medical staff, not knowing the truth, started to gossip and point fingers at Wren Wynter.

When Wren Wynter’s senior colleagues heard these whispers, they turned livid with rage.

"This is outrageous! What are these people saying? Wren is clearly the most brilliant of us all!" Leif Shaw slammed his hand on the table in frustration.

Ho-ran Park’s brow furrowed, his face etched with displeasure.

"Should we go to Dean Lee and ask her to get these people to shut their mouths?"

Leo Crowe, though usually mild-mannered, had a grim expression now.

"Who’s spreading these lies? We need to find out who it is and expose them!"

Wren Wynter, however, was remarkably calm.

"Forget it. People will talk. Let them say whatever they want. We just need to focus on our work."

Her tone was indifferent, as if she hadn’t taken any of the rumors to heart.

"But Wren, this will damage your reputation!" Leif Shaw protested.

"What does reputation matter? I came here to work on this project and save patients, not to win praise."

"Besides," Wren said firmly, "the innocent need no defense, and rumors die with the wise. There’s no need to waste energy on this."

Even though she said that, her senior colleagues were still furious.

They knew how brilliant a doctor she was and how much of herself she had poured into this project.

Those baseless accusations infuriated them.

Yet, Wren’s attitude left them feeling somewhat helpless.

She was like a cool lotus blossom, pure and untouched by the clamor of the mortal world.

Despite this, Wren demonstrated the utmost professionalism in her work.

She treated Audrey Aldridge and the other nurses with the same impartiality, her attitude unchanged by the rumors.

She even took the initiative to help them with challenges at work, which made some of the nurses see her in a completely new light.

Just as the rumors were running rampant, Tina Wallace made her appearance.

She had received a call from her mother, who mentioned that Kaden Xavier had been visiting the hospital frequently, apparently keeping an eye on a medical project.

An idea sparked in Tina Wallace’s mind. This was the perfect opportunity to orchestrate a "chance" encounter with Kaden Xavier.

She fabricated an excuse, claiming she felt unwell, and came to this hospital—one owned by the Xavier Group—for a check-up.

Dressed in designer clothes and wearing exquisite makeup, she drew a great deal of attention the moment she stepped into the hospital.

She ambled slowly toward the examination rooms, her eyes scanning the area in hopes of spotting Kaden Xavier.

As she passed the nurses’ station, she happened to overhear a few nurses whispering among themselves.

"Have you heard? That Miss Wynter, Elder Hawthorne’s student, is just an empty vase."

"I know, right? I heard she’s divorced, too. A divorced woman trying to seduce Mr. Xavier... she should take a good look at herself."

"I heard she was even Mr. Xavier’s wife before. He dumped her, and now she’s trying to come back and throw herself at him."

A sharp glint flashed in Tina Wallace’s eyes as she heard this.

’Wren Wynter?’

’Kaden Xavier’s ex-wife?’

A wave of schadenfreude washed over her.

She approached the nurses’ station and asked with feigned casualness, "What’s all the commotion about?"

One of the nurses recognized Tina Wallace as Mr. Xavier’s prospective fiancée and quickly smiled. "Oh, Miss Wallace, it’s nothing. Just a bit of idle gossip."

But Tina Wallace pressed, "Gossip? I thought I heard you talking about Mr. Xavier’s ex-wife."

The nurses exchanged awkward glances.

Seeing their reaction, Tina grew more certain. She pulled out her phone, pretending to make a call while secretly activating the voice recorder.

She deliberately spoke louder, tricking the nurses into thinking she was chatting with a friend so they would let down their guard.

"Oh my, you’re all being so harsh, aren’t you? But then again, that Wren Wynter really is something else. I heard she and Mr. Xavier divorced because she was just too much drama."

Tina Wallace added fuel to the fire.

Hearing Tina Wallace say this emboldened the nurses. They all started talking at once, spilling every rumor they’d heard and even embellishing them with their own fabrications.

Tina Wallace recorded every last word.

She gloated internally. ’Now Wren Wynter’s reputation will be in tatters. Kaden Xavier will definitely despise her even more.’

She pocketed her phone, a triumphant smirk playing on her lips.

"Well, I won’t keep you. I’m off to my appointment." With that, she turned and left the nurses’ station.

On her way out of the hospital, Tina Wallace made a point of listening to the recording to ensure it was clear and complete.

She was already plotting. ’How can I get this recording to Kaden Xavier so he can finally see Wren Wynter’s true colors?’

She knew the Xavier Group was the hospital’s primary investor, so Kaden Xavier would surely be concerned with its affairs.

A victorious smile on her face, she left the hospital.

Meanwhile, Wren Wynter and her senior colleagues were still in the conference room, hashing out project details.

They were oblivious to the conspiracy being quietly woven against Wren.

That evening, after the project discussion wrapped up, Wren and her senior colleagues prepared to leave.

But Audrey Aldridge dawdled, deliberately lingering in the conference room instead of packing up her things.

"Dr. Crowe, do you have a moment this evening? There are some documents I was hoping to ask you about."

Audrey Aldridge sidled up to Leo Crowe, her voice saccharine sweet.

Leo Crowe glanced at the time. It was already quite late.

He frowned and was just about to refuse when Wren stepped forward.

"Nurse Aldridge, let’s discuss any issues tomorrow. Senior Crowe is exhausted today and needs to get some rest."

Wren’s tone was calm, but her eyes carried a hint of warning.

Audrey Aldridge’s expression faltered for a moment before she quickly pasted her smile back on.

"Miss Wynter is right. You’ve worked so hard, Dr. Crowe. But... I live a little far from the hospital, and it’s hard to get a taxi this late. I was wondering if it would be convenient for you to give me a ride?"

Leo Crowe looked uncomfortable. As a married man, he always made a point to avoid such situations.

But he felt it would be rude to flatly refuse a female colleague.

Assistant Lynch, who was standing nearby, immediately chimed in, "That’s right, Nurse Aldridge. I can give you a ride home."
