Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

Wren Wynter’s eyes widened. "Are you insane?"

"If we have a child, you’ll be able to relax. You won’t go after Seraphina anymore, and you won’t feel so insecure."

Kaden Xavier’s tone was flat, his expression suggesting he was only thinking of what was best for Wren Wynter.

"We’re not getting any younger. It’s about time for us to have kids. If we keep putting it off, it won’t be good for you either."

Enraged by his shameless attitude, Wren Wynter clenched her fists and shouted, "Kaden Xavier, we’re already divorced! I’m not having a baby with you!"

"Then who are you going to have a baby with?" Kaden Xavier’s gaze darkened. "Ho-ran Park? Or Shaun Quinn?"

"What are you talking about?" Wren Wynter stared at him, stunned. "Kaden Xavier, don’t assume everyone is as disgusting as you are!"

"Me, disgusting?" Kaden Xavier sneered. "Wren Wynter, have I not been good enough to you these past three years? I gave you whatever you wanted and never mistreated you. But what about you? Was I ever in your heart?"

Wren Wynter looked at him and suddenly laughed.

"Kaden Xavier, your so-called ’good’ to me was never being there when I needed you? It was making me watch you parade around with other women? If that’s what you call being good, then I’d rather do without." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Kaden Xavier’s deep voice was laced with impatience. "Wren Wynter, must you drag Seraphina Sutton into this? The problems between us have nothing to do with her—"

"Enough!" Wren Wynter cut him off. "I don’t want to hear that name again. Kaden Xavier, just go. I don’t want to see you."

"I don’t love you anymore, Kaden Xavier. Listen closely. I, Wren Wynter, do not love you anymore."

Kaden Xavier stared at her for a long time.

Then he stood up and walked out of the room without a word.

The door closed, leaving Wren Wynter sitting alone on the bed, trembling all over.

She hugged her knees, buried her face in her arms, and the tears she’d been holding back finally streamed down.

’Why?’

’Why did things turn out this way?’

’She just wanted to leave and start a new life. Why wouldn’t Kaden Xavier just let her go?’

Wren Wynter barely slept a wink that night.

The next morning, she walked out of her room with dark circles under her eyes and saw Kaden Xavier already sitting in the dining room, eating breakfast.

"Good morning, Miss," Butler Chandler said with a smile. "Breakfast is ready. Please, come and eat."

Wren Wynter glanced at Kaden Xavier.

He was looking down at a newspaper, as if nothing had happened last night.

She walked to the dining table, sat down, and ate her breakfast in silence.

’If that damn scumbag isn’t affected, then I’m not going to let myself suffer either.’

After breakfast, Kaden Xavier put down his newspaper and left without another word to Wren Wynter.

Wren Wynter was happy for the peace and quiet. ’Out of sight, out of mind. It would be best if they never saw each other again.’

As the car drove out of View Gardens, Kaden Xavier sat in the back seat with his eyes closed, resting.

He hadn’t slept at all last night, his mind filled with the image of Wren Wynter’s cold face.

"Mr. Xavier, there’s a car that’s been following us," the driver said warily.

Kaden Xavier opened his eyes and glanced in the rearview mirror.

A black sedan was following them, keeping a steady distance. It had been tailing them for several blocks.

"Lose them," Kaden Xavier said in a low voice.

The driver sped up, trying to shake the car behind them.

But the car gave chase relentlessly, even getting closer.

"Mr. Xavier, something’s not right." There was a note of tension in the driver’s voice.

The words had barely left his mouth when the black sedan suddenly accelerated and rammed straight into them.

"Watch out!" The driver wrenched the steering wheel, trying to swerve out of the way, but it was too late.

With a deafening CRASH, the two cars collided violently.

The airbags deployed instantly. Kaden Xavier’s vision went black, and he lost consciousness.

When he woke up, he was lying in a hospital bed.

He moved slightly and found he had multiple scrapes, but thankfully, no broken bones.

A doctor was treating his wounds.

"Mr. Xavier, you’re awake?" The doctor saw him open his eyes and breathed a sigh of relief. "You’re very lucky. Just some superficial injuries and a mild concussion. You’ll be fine after a few days of rest."

Kaden Xavier tried to sit up but was pushed back down by the doctor. "Don’t move. I’m not done treating your wounds yet."

"What about my driver?" Kaden Xavier asked.

"That gentleman’s injuries are a bit more serious than yours. He has a broken arm, but it’s not life-threatening." The doctor kept working as he spoke. "Mr. Xavier, do you need us to notify your family?"

Just as Kaden Xavier was about to speak, the door to his room was pushed open.

Wren Wynter walked in, wearing a white coat and holding a chart. When she saw Kaden Xavier in the hospital bed, she clearly froze for a moment.

Kaden Xavier was stunned, too.

He hadn’t expected to run into Wren Wynter here.

’She’s working as a doctor here now?’

"Dr. Wynter, this is Mr. Xavier. He was brought in after a car accident."

Wren Wynter quickly composed herself, walked to the bedside, and flipped open the chart. "Mr. Xavier, how are you feeling? Do you feel any particular discomfort?"

Seeing her all-business attitude, Kaden Xavier felt a sudden urge to tease her.

"My head hurts."

"That’s normal. It’s from the mild concussion."

"My heart hurts, too."

"If your heart hurts, I can arrange a full workup."

"I hurt all over."

"Mr. Xavier, if you hurt all over, I suggest you go straight to the funeral home and have them cremate you. It’ll solve everything."

Kaden Xavier clutched his chest, putting on a heartbroken expression as he looked reproachfully at Wren Wynter.

"Wren, I’m your husband. If I die, you’ll be a widow."

Wren Wynter gave Kaden Xavier a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

"And that’s supposed to be a bad thing?"

Wren Wynter closed the chart. "I’ll prescribe you some medication. You should be fine after a few days of rest. Don’t get the wounds wet, and change the dressings on schedule."

With that, she turned to leave.

"Wren," Kaden Xavier called out to her.

Wren Wynter stopped and turned around, looking impatient. "Is there anything else, Captain Xavier?"

Kaden Xavier opened his mouth, but he didn’t know what to say.

In the end, he just said, "When are you doing rounds again?"

"We’ll see," Wren Wynter said before walking out of the room.

Leaning against the wall in the hallway, she took a deep breath.

’She knew she had to let him go, but when she heard he’d been in a car accident, she couldn’t help but feel anxious.’

’Worrying about him had become a habit over the last three years.’

’A habit ingrained in her very bones.’

Wren Wynter gave a bitter smile.

’Habits really are a terrifying thing.’

She was about to head back to her office when she saw Seraphina Sutton hurrying toward her.

Upon seeing Wren Wynter, Seraphina Sutton froze for a few seconds, then broke into a smile full of goodwill.

"Dr. Wynter, what a coincidence." Seraphina Sutton walked up to Wren Wynter. "I heard Kaden was in a car accident, so I came to see him. How is he doing?"

"Just some superficial wounds. Nothing serious."

Seraphina Sutton breathed a sigh of relief and patted her chest, acting as if their previous unpleasantness had never happened.

"That’s good."

Wren Wynter’s gaze fell to Seraphina Sutton’s stomach. At a little over four months pregnant, she was starting to show.

"You shouldn’t be running around now that you’re pregnant. If not for yourself, you should at least think about the baby in your belly."
