Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

"Ms. Wynter, you promised."

Wren Wynter stared at him, confused.

’When did I promise that?’

If this incident hadn’t happened, she might have had to continue as a substitute teacher at A University for another semester.

But now, that was clearly impossible.

"Alright, Ms. Wynter, I’ll stop teasing you."

Zane Langley suddenly burst out laughing, instantly easing the awkward atmosphere.

"Since you’re okay, Ms. Wynter, I’ll get going. I have a date to get to."

"Okay. Thanks for coming to see me." Wren Wynter waved.

Zane Langley left in a hurry.

"Was that one of your students?" Shaun Quinn asked as he walked in, carrying two bags of food.

Wren was surprised. "How did you know?"

"After what happened to you, the university couldn’t find a suitable replacement on short notice, so our mentor asked me to fill in for you at A University."

"Oh, I see."

’No wonder Shaun knew him.’

’They must have seen each other at the university.’

"You just woke up, so you can only have liquid food for now. Once you’re feeling a bit better, I’ll take you out for something good."

Shaun Quinn opened a food container and pushed the plain congee in front of Wren Wynter.

"It’s fine."

She wasn’t particularly picky about food. As long as it filled her stomach, she was happy.

Even though it was just plain congee, Wren ate it with great relish.

It was the first time she’d had such an appetite since her grandmother passed away.

Outside the door, Kaden Xavier stood as still as a statue, his eyes fixed on Wren Wynter inside the hospital room without blinking.

He was holding a nutritious meal, and there seemed to be a scar on the back of his hand.

He had seen the entire interaction between the two of them just now.

"Mr. Xavier, should we still go in?" Assistant Lynch asked tentatively, seeing Kaden’s sullen face.

Kaden Xavier looked down at the meal in his hand and gave a bitter smile.

’What’s the point of going in?’

’To interrupt them?’

’Wren probably doesn’t want to see me anyway.’

"Let’s go."

"Then what about this?"

"You eat it." Kaden Xavier shoved the meal into Assistant Lynch’s arms and strode toward the hospital exit.

"Ah!" Assistant Lynch was taken aback.

’He was grateful to his boss for giving him the meal, but how could he eat it with a clear conscience?’

Suddenly, he took a deep breath, mustered his courage, turned around, and walked into the hospital room.

"Mrs. X... Miss Wynter."

"Assistant Lynch, what are you doing here?"

Wren Wynter was surprised to see Assistant Lynch and instinctively glanced behind him.

This small gesture did not escape Shaun Quinn’s notice.

His eyes darkened.

Assistant Lynch placed the nutritious meal on the table over Wren’s bed and said with a polite smile, "Mr. Xavier had this specially prepared for you. He’s been busy looking for the person who murdered the old madam, so he might not have time to come see you."

"But Mr. Xavier cares a lot about you. When he heard you were injured, he was shaking all over. And he was the one who arranged for your blood transfusion from the next city."

Afraid that Wren Wynter would misunderstand Kaden Xavier, Assistant Lynch quickly recounted everything his boss had done.

After hearing Assistant Lynch’s words, a ripple disturbed the calm in Wren Wynter’s eyes.

’Did he save me?’

Wren Wynter was silent for a moment before saying, "Please thank him for me."

"Of course."

Shaun Quinn stood up and pushed the meal back into Assistant Lynch’s arms.

"Mr. Yates, how would you know she can’t eat it? Mr. Xavier already considered that Miss Wynter just woke up, so this meal is all liquid food. It definitely won’t be hard on her."

Assistant Lynch thoughtfully opened the food container.

Shaun Quinn’s face darkened. He wanted to lash out but had no reason to, so he could only snort coldly. "Such false sentiment."

"Miss Wynter, I have some urgent matters at the company, so I’ll be leaving now."

"Okay. Goodbye, Assistant Lynch."

Wren Wynter bid Assistant Lynch a simple farewell, then lowered her head to look at the nutritious meal in the container, her feelings in turmoil.

’Was he just outside the door, too?’

"What is it?" Shaun Quinn asked in a low voice.

"Nothing."

After dropping off the meal, Assistant Lynch hurried to the parking lot and found Kaden Xavier waiting for him in front of the car.

Seeing him arrive, Kaden frowned.

"Where have you been?"

"Sorry, Mr. Xavier. I had a stomachache and had to use the restroom."

"Hmph. Let’s go."

"Yes, sir."

Assistant Lynch opened the car door, and Kaden Xavier got in.

He had followed Kaden Xavier for many years and knew that deep down, Kaden had always cared for Wren. He just didn’t know how to express it, or perhaps, he had never even realized it himself.

After agreeing to the divorce, Kaden Xavier had been dejected for a long time, and his commanding presence had diminished.

He had never seen Kaden Xavier like that before.

"How is that woman?" Kaden Xavier’s dark eyes glinted with a cold light. The hostility in his expression made Assistant Lynch’s heart pound.

"She’s at the police station right now. Mr. Xavier, how would you like to handle it?"

"Don’t let her have it easy," Kaden Xavier said, his thin lips pressed into a tight line.

"Understood, Mr. Xavier."

The next day, Ho-ran Park and Joy Lynch came to see Wren together.

The moment Joy Lynch walked in and saw Wren’s pale face, she burst into tears and rushed to the side of her bed.

"Wren, how did you get so hurt? We were just on the phone a couple of days ago!"

Feeling both helpless and amused, Wren patted her hair. "I’m fine now, see?"

"That woman is just awful! It had nothing to do with you, yet she still hurt you. Wren, I’m telling you, don’t you dare let her off the hook! She’s despicable!"

"Wren, I feel the same way. You should press charges. Don’t go soft on her."

Wren pursed her lips and shook her head silently. "I think I’ll let it go. She was in a difficult position. Her husband killed her child and then tried to kill her... Anyone would have a breakdown in that situation."

Joy Lynch covered her mouth in shock, then said indignantly, "If you ask me, it’s the man’s fault! I’m telling you, there are no good men in this world! To kill his own flesh and blood... He’s worse than an animal!"

"Joy, don’t lump me in with them. I’ve done nothing wrong."

Ho-ran Park raised his hands in surrender, his gaze toward Joy Lynch full of affection and tenderness.

Wren’s eyes shifted between the two of them, a teasing look in her eyes. "Ho-ran, you two..."

"Wren, don’t you worry. I’ll be sure to take good care of your senior!"

Joy Lynch wasn’t shy at all; instead, she admitted it openly.

Ho-ran Park chuckled and put a hand to his forehead.

’What kind of girl says something like that?’

"Ho-ran, let’s step out and let the two of them talk."

"Alright."

Shaun Quinn and Ho-ran Park walked out of the room.

Through the glass window, Shaun’s eyes were filled with an unconcealable affection. Ho-ran Park, standing beside him, patted his shoulder.

"Thanks for taking care of Wren these past few days. It must have been tough."

"Taking care of her is no trouble at all."

"Shaun, don’t push her too hard. She needs time to process everything."

Ho-ran Park squeezed his shoulder.

A small smile played on Shaun Quinn’s lips, his eyes never leaving Wren for a second.

"Kaden Xavier came by yesterday."

"What did he want? Isn’t he about to divorce Wren?"

"Whatever he came for, I will never let him hurt Wren again."

"By the way, how are things with your family? I heard your old man wants you to take over the hospital under the Yates Family’s name. What are your thoughts on that?"
