"That’s good." Wren said no more, glancing at the still-unconscious Kaden Xavier with a placid heart. She turned to Shaun Quinn. "Shaun, let’s go."

"Okay." Shaun Quinn was surprised by Wren’s indifference toward Kaden Xavier, but he was also pleased.

’Does this mean Wren is over Kaden Xavier?’

"Are we going home?" Shaun Quinn asked.

Wren shook her head. "To City First Hospital."

"You’ve decided?" Shaun Quinn’s lips thinned.

He knew exactly what Wren was going there to do.

"Mhm," Wren nodded.

Shaun Quinn’s brow furrowed. The dim light cast a handsome silhouette from his eyelashes, his expression unreadable.

After a long moment, he said, "Okay."

Neither of them spoke in the car.

Shaun Quinn drove while Wren rested with her eyes closed, though she was also running from something.

When they arrived, Wren told Shaun Quinn to go to his class first, while she headed straight for the director’s office.

The director was shocked and reluctant to let her go when he heard she wanted to resign. "Dr. Wynter, is there something our hospital has done wrong?"

These days, it was incredibly difficult to find a doctor who was both highly skilled and humble. Someone like Wren was one in a million.

"No, it’s just that there’s something I want to do. This is my letter of resignation." Wren pushed the letter across the desk to the director.

"May I ask what it is?" The director was very unwilling to lose such a key member of his staff.

"I plan to join Doctors Without Borders." Wren didn’t hide it.

"I see." The director sighed softly. "How about this? We’ll keep your position open for you. When you come back, you can resume your duties. Would that be acceptable?"

"That won’t be necessary. Thank you, Director." Wren politely declined.

Seeing this, the director knew he couldn’t persuade her any further and reluctantly let her go.

"Thank you."

The moment Wren stepped out, she saw Mason Shaw standing by the door, his hands in his pockets, a somewhat forlorn look on his face.

"You resigned?"

"Mhm," Wren admitted frankly. "Dr. Shaw, thank you so much for all your help recently."

"You know my thanks was never what I wanted."

"Dr. Shaw, thank you for your feelings, but we’re not a good match. You deserve better." Wren’s gaze was clear and steady, her rejection delivered so flawlessly that no one could find fault with it.

Mason Shaw bit his lip, refusing to give up as he stepped closer to Wren.

He took off his gold-rimmed glasses, revealing the ambitious and profound eyes that lay beneath.

"Wren, do you really not feel anything for me at all?"

Faced with Mason Shaw’s pressing advance, Wren didn’t get angry. She simply lifted her eyelids and met his gaze directly.

Her eyes held not a trace of emotion or affection.

In the end, Mason Shaw was defeated.

"I understand. I’m sorry for bothering you."

He took a few steps back, masking his disappointment with a smile.

"I hope you find the one for you soon." Wren’s tone was calm, but it carried her most sincere blessings.

"Goodbye, Dr. Wynter." Mason Shaw gave a small smile and a wave.

Only after her back was out of sight did he lower his head, a bitter smile on his lips.

’If my buddies found out this was the first time I’d struck out with a woman, they’d probably laugh at me for a long, long time.’

"Dr. Shaw."

Suddenly, a graceful figure emerged from around the corner.

Mason Shaw found the newcomer somewhat familiar but couldn’t place her right away.

But he saw a hint of shyness in the woman’s eyes and understood immediately. He leaned against the wall, crossed his arms, and waited to see what she would do next.

"Dr. Shaw, Wren is just a divorcée. She’s not at all worthy of a young man with a good family background like you."

"Then who do you think I should be with?" Mason Shaw asked, his thin lips curling into a smile as he watched the woman approach him.

Seeing that Mason Shaw wasn’t ignoring her, the woman grew bold. She walked up to his side, placed a hand on his chest, and tugged at the collar of his white coat.

"Of course, you should find someone who matches your status, or a woman who’s as young and beautiful as you are."

"Oh? You mean someone like you?"

The woman blushed shyly, but her body leaned boldly against Mason Shaw’s chest, her restless hands landing on his shoulders. "If you don’t mind, Dr. Shaw, I could also... AH!"

Before she could finish, Mason Shaw’s expression changed. He ruthlessly shoved the woman away and grabbed her by the neck, yet his face still wore that same gentle, refined smile.

"It’s not for others to judge the woman I, Mason Shaw, like. You’re not fit to be compared to a single strand of her hair. If I ever hear you speak ill of her again, don’t blame me for hitting a woman."

With that, he flung the woman away as if she were something dirty and even wiped his hands.

The woman’s legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.

She knew Mason Shaw was the scion of a top-tier wealthy family, which was why she had taken the risk to seduce him, hoping to leap up the social ladder.

But she never expected that this normally gentle and refined man was actually a smiling tiger!

She looked up at Mason Shaw’s handsome face, reluctant to give up yet lacking the courage to try seducing him again.

"Aren’t you going to get lost?!"

"Yes... I... I’ll get lost right now." The woman scrambled away.

Mason Shaw walked to the smoking area, lit a cigarette, and exhaled a long breath.

’I could have any woman I want, but I can’t have her.’

After Wren left City First Hospital, she received a call from Shaun Quinn. He told her that Zane Langley and the others missed her and wanted to see her before the winter break.

Wren hesitated.

She felt like a complete mess right now, and with the injuries on her face still healing, she was worried she would scare the kids.

"Ms. Wynter, please come! We all miss you so much."

Zane Langley’s voice came through the phone.

Wren looked down and chuckled softly, her gaze gradually softening. "Okay."

’I probably won’t have another chance after this,’ she thought. ’I’ll treat it as a farewell.’

"We’ll be waiting for you," Shaun Quinn said.

Wren hung up the phone.

So as not to frighten the students, she specifically asked a nurse for a surgical mask to wear and took a taxi to A University.

When Wren arrived at A University, she found Shaun Quinn standing at the main gate.

"Shaun, you know, I could have gone in by myself."

"Too late to say that now."

Shaun Quinn glanced at Wren, his eyes landing on her mask.

Wren noticed his gaze and subconsciously touched her mask, explaining, "The injuries on my face haven’t healed yet. I was afraid of scaring the kids."

"If they can’t even handle that, how will they face the real world?" Shaun Quinn’s gaze fell on Wren’s scars, and his eyes darkened imperceptibly. "Fourth Brother has a special ointment for skin. Once the wound closes up, you can ask him for it."

"Okay."

The two of them went to the classroom together. The moment they pushed the door open, they were greeted by the sound of party poppers.

Wren flinched slightly, her eyes lighting up.

"Ms. Wynter, you’re here!"

Zane Langley stood at the front of the crowd. He was holding a cake and walked over to Wren, presenting it to her.

"Ms. Wynter, this is a small token from our entire class. Even though you didn’t teach us for long, it’s because of you that I was able to win first place in the medical competition representing the school."

Wren exclaimed in surprise, "You won first place?!"

Zane Langley nodded, his sunny smile unable to hide his gratitude toward Wren.

"Mhm, first place."

"Congratulations! But the credit isn’t mine—it’s the result of your own hard work."

A competition like this was highly prestigious. There were many universities in the Capital, but these kinds of contests were typically open only to the top student from each school, and entry couldn’t be bought with money.

So, for Zane Langley to win first place could only mean he was truly exceptional.
