Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

"Junior, what’s wrong with you? It’s like you have transient amnesia. Don’t scare me!" Ho-ran Park said, his brow furrowed with concern as he looked at Wren.

’If she really has this illness, she might never be able to hold a scalpel again.’

"It’s nothing. Just go help me with the discharge paperwork." Wren Wynter’s expression was composed, but her mind was weighed down.

’It couldn’t be, right?’

"As long as you’re okay. I’ll go right now." Ho-ran Park let out a long sigh of relief, set down his things, and left the room.

Wren was left alone in the hospital room, pondering her memories of the previous night.

She couldn’t shake the feeling that she had forgotten something important.

Abruptly, she picked up her phone for a look.

She was relieved to see that the number she knew by heart wasn’t in her call history.

Just then, Maximus Yates appeared at the doorway of her room, accompanied by his caregiver. He wore his usual gentle smile.

"Wren," Maximus Yates said as he walked in. "Congratulations on your discharge."

"Elder Yates, what are you doing here?" Wren Wynter looked up in surprise.

Maximus Yates had his caregiver set down some health supplements before taking a seat in a nearby chair.

"Something came up at the company recently, so I’ve been busy and couldn’t visit. You’re not upset with me, are you?"

"Of course not! Elder Yates, I’m already so happy that you came to see me. How could I possibly be upset?" Wren Wynter waved her hands in a flurry.

"You silly girl, don’t be so nervous. And don’t call me Elder Yates, it sounds so distant. Since you and Shaun are fellow apprentices, why don’t you follow his example and call me Grandpa?" Maximus Yates said.

"Alright, Grandpa Yates." Wren Wynter smiled faintly.

"Ah!" Maximus Yates beamed, his eyes crinkling. Then, he looked at Wren hesitantly. "Wren, there’s something I’d like to ask for your help with."

Wren Wynter sat up straight. "Please, go ahead."

’I have a feeling I know what this is about.’

Maximus Yates gathered his thoughts for a moment before speaking slowly. "You know that Shaun and his father have a terrible relationship. Grandpa wants to ask you to help mediate between them, to ease the tension. I can’t bear to see them go on like this."

"Especially after your grandmother passed away, I’ve felt even more strongly that people must cherish those around them. In the face of life and death, there’s nothing that can’t be forgiven."

Wren Wynter looked troubled.

The reason Shaun Quinn and Isaac Yates’s relationship had deteriorated to this point was purely because of Shaun’s mother.

If she were to act as a peacemaker for Isaac Yates, it would be tantamount to asking Shaun Quinn to forgive his mother’s killer.

That would be asking the impossible!

Wren Wynter didn’t want to disappoint Elder Yates, nor did she want to hurt Shaun Quinn.

"Grandpa, let me think about it." Wren Wynter hesitated, unable to agree right away.

"Alright. There’s one more thing. Grandpa needs to apologize to you." Maximus Yates cleared his throat, looking at Wren with a guilty conscience. "Before, I didn’t know about your relationship with Shaun, so I used you to threaten him. I apologize for that."

Huh?!

Wren Wynter bit her lip, momentarily at a loss for words.

She didn’t know about this, and Shaun Quinn had never mentioned it.

’Could it be that Elder Yates also knows his grandson likes me? Is that why he used me as a threat?’

Suddenly, Wren Wynter’s heart began to pound, but she feigned composure. "It’s alright, Grandpa. If you hadn’t told me, I never would have known."

’It didn’t cause me any real harm, anyway.’

"You not knowing is beside the point. I still had to tell you." Maximus Yates’s tone was resolute.

Wren finally understood where Shaun Quinn got his personality from. The man before her was the spitting image of an older Shaun.

Just as stubborn.

Maximus Yates glanced down at his watch and said cryptically, "They should be here soon."

Wren asked, "What’s coming soon?"

"Wren, I came today for another very important matter. You’ll find out in a moment." Maximus Yates’s mysterious air piqued Wren Wynter’s curiosity.

Not five minutes later, a man and a woman walked in, one after the other.

They were both dressed in matching black suits, and the man carried a briefcase.

"Elder Yates," the two greeted him respectfully.

"Mm." Maximus Yates gave a simple nod, then looked to Wren to make the introduction. "Wren, these two are members of the International Medical Association. They’re primarily responsible for major disease relief efforts in the Cathay region."

"The International Medical Association?" Wren Wynter’s eyes widened slightly.

Before she married Kaden Xavier, she had the good fortune to attend a symposium hosted by the International Medical Association with her mentor.

The experience had been profoundly beneficial.

Afterward, she even wrote a paper that was published in an international medical journal.

If she hadn’t married Kaden Xavier, hadn’t become a flight surgeon, perhaps she would have been one of them by now.

Internationally, they not only had the best medical equipment, but more importantly, one could learn techniques from doctors from different countries and see all sorts of strange diseases from around the world.

For a surgeon, it was more than just a learning opportunity; it was the chance of a lifetime.

"Hello, I’m Wren Wynter," Wren said with quiet confidence.

"Hello, Miss Wynter. My name is Vincent Vaughn, and this is my colleague, Lily Archer. We’ve already heard about you from Elder Yates. I hear you’re Elder Hawthorne’s youngest student."

Vincent Vaughn wore a practiced smile, but Wren could see a flicker of disdain in his eyes.

In his eyes, Wren was a nobody trying to use her mentor’s status and her connection with Elder Yates to worm her way into the International Medical Association.

After all, their association wasn’t something one could enter with just money, power, or connections. It required exceptional medical skills, and one had to be a genius among geniuses.

Wren Wynter didn’t take it to heart.

She had faced this kind of attitude many times growing up, all because of her age and gender.

At first, it would upset her so much she’d lose her appetite. Then, her mentor told her, "Wren, if you don’t want to be looked down on, use your skills to shut them up."

Afterward, she began to frequently take on highly complex surgeries, and gradually, the whispers died down.

That’s why her mentor had been so angry when he found out she became a flight surgeon for Kaden Xavier’s sake.

"Mr. Vaughn, I can vouch for Wren’s medical skills. I fainted on the street once, and she was the one who saved me."

Maximus Yates was practically praising Wren to the heavens as he spoke, but it did nothing to change his guests’ opinion of her.

Artificial respiration was something almost anyone with basic first-aid knowledge could perform.

Besides, as a medical professional, it should be second nature to her.

"What are you all doing here?"

Suddenly, Shaun Quinn appeared at the doorway, his handsome face contorted with rage.

Next to him was Ho-ran Park, who had just finished handling the discharge procedures.

He clearly hadn’t expected the room to become so lively the moment he left.

"Shaun, you’re here! Come over, let me introduce you, this is—"

"Enough!" Shaun Quinn cut Maximus Yates off coldly, pointing to the door with an uncompromising expression. "Get out!"

"Shaun, where are your manners? Is this what your mentor has taught you all these years?" Maximus Yates was furious.

Shaun Quinn’s behavior was a public humiliation.

He had navigated the political world for most of his life, and very few people dared to speak to him like that.

Seeing the tense atmosphere, Wren Wynter quickly got off the hospital bed and stepped between them.

"Grandpa Yates, please don’t be angry. Second Senior didn’t mean it like that."

"I meant exactly what I said."

Wren Wynter couldn’t help but frown, hissing in a low voice, "Second Senior!"

"Get out!" Shaun Quinn was unmoved.

"Elder Yates, if there’s nothing else, perhaps we should leave it at that for today?" Vincent Vaughn spoke up, clearly wanting no part in his superior’s family drama.

"Mm," Maximus Yates replied, not wanting to air his family’s dirty laundry in front of outsiders.

Wren softly apologized on Shaun Quinn’s behalf. "I’m sorry to have troubled you. Please don’t take it to heart. My Second Senior wasn’t targeting you."

Vincent Vaughn said, "It’s fine."

"Second Brother, don’t be in such a hurry to kick people out," Ho-ran Park said in a gentle voice. "Since Elder Yates brought them here to see Junior, he must have his reasons. I’ll handle this. You go sit down for a moment."

"Second Senior, these two are members of the International Medical Association. Grandpa Yates brought them here to introduce me, that’s all," Wren Wynter explained helplessly.
