Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

Wren Wynter’s gaze flickered as she looked at the peace charm tucked inside Seraphina Sutton’s uniform. She had braved a torrential downpour to get that for Kaden Xavier.

Six months ago, the flight Kaden Xavier was piloting from Seraphall to the Capital had encountered a dangerous cumulonimbus cloud.

It was impossible to turn back and impossible to avoid.

At the time, everyone had mentally prepared for the plane to crash and for all lives to be lost.

But Wren Wynter, a staunch materialist, ran to a church for the first time in her life. She prayed, begging the gods to let Kaden Xavier return safely.

She was willing to trade everything she had.

The moment she received the peace charm, her wish was granted—she got news that Kaden Xavier had landed safely in the neighboring city of Norbry.

Previously, he had told her he’d put it away for safekeeping because he was afraid of losing it. She’d actually believed him.

She never expected he would turn around and give it to Seraphina Sutton.

What a ridiculous lie!

"I don’t need it." Wren could easily see through her little games. She reminded her calmly, "By the way, I’m the one who gave that peace charm to Kaden Xavier."

Seraphina Sutton’s face instantly turned pale. She said hurriedly, "I’m sorry, Dr. Wynter. I didn’t know you were the one who gave this to Kaden. I’ll give it back to you right now."

As she spoke, she took it off.

Wren took it and, without a second glance, tossed it into the trash can. She wasn’t interested in secondhand goods.

Seraphina Sutton was stunned. "Dr. Wynter, you..."

"I don’t touch secondhand goods. If you like it so much, Miss Sutton, you can fish it out yourself." Wren’s words carried a double meaning. With that, she sat back down in her chair. "If there’s nothing else, the exit is to your left. Other people are waiting."

"Then I won’t disturb you any longer."

Seraphina Sutton masked her displeasure, a calculating glint flashing imperceptibly in her eyes.

At the end of her shift, Wren was packing up to leave when her phone suddenly vibrated.

"Wren, it’s my birthday today. Want to come meet Serena and me at the bar?"

On the other end of the line was Wren’s best friend, Joy Lynch.

"Oh, come on, Wren won’t come. You know her, she’s completely under her husband’s thumb!"

Another voice chimed in—it was Wren’s other best friend, Serena Nash.

The three of them had been roommates since college, and later all decided to stay in The Capital. They were closer than sisters. But even though they lived in the same city, they hadn’t seen each other in almost a month.

She used to save most of her time for Kaden Xavier. Now, there was no need.

"Send me the address."

"What?"

"I’ll grab a cab and head over."

Joy Lynch and Serena Nash hadn’t expected Wren to agree so readily and were momentarily stunned.

After all, no matter how many times they’d asked her out before, she had always refused, using the excuse that she was afraid of making Kaden Xavier angry.

Going out for a normal dinner was one thing, but a place like a bar? Wren wouldn’t even give it a second thought.

Joy Lynch immediately sent Wren the address.

Wren booked a ride on her phone. She arrived in less than half an hour. She still smelled faintly of disinfectant, her chestnut curls cascading down her back. Her cool, elegant aura made her stand out in the crowd.

"Wren, over here!" Joy Lynch waved at Wren.

Wren smiled, nodded, and sat down next to Joy, pulling a small gift box from her bag at the same time. "Happy birthday, Joy."

Seeing the box, Joy exclaimed excitedly, "Ah! Wren, sweetie, I love you so much! You actually remembered!"

Even without opening it, she knew it was an adjustable Hermes bracelet.

"I’ve had it ready for a while," Wren said with a smile.

Serena Nash looked at Wren, her arms crossed, her eyes full of playful mockery. "Not afraid your husband will get angry today? Daring to show up here."

"I’m getting a divorce," Wren said.

"Huh?"

The bar was loud, but they both heard her clearly and were utterly shocked.

"Did I hear that right?" Joy’s eyes widened. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"You’ve thought it through?" Serena asked.

She and Wren had been best friends for five years, so she knew exactly what kind of person Wren was. She would never say something like that lightly without having made up her mind.

"Mhm." Wren wasn’t going to hide it from her two best friends. "It’s better for both of us to divorce before we have kids."

"Wren, I support you. I’ve long thought that Kaden Xavier is nothing but a scumbag. He’s a player, nice to every girl he meets, yet he insisted on messing up your life."

Joy Lynch had never liked Kaden Xavier, feeling that he had held Wren back.

After all, Wren had been a medical prodigy. She’d earned a dual doctorate from Crestwood Medical School by the age of twenty, and her papers had been published in prestigious international medical journals several times.

And at twenty-two, she independently performed a brain tumor surgery that had a success rate of less than 5%.

Countless major hospitals were fighting to recruit her back then, but for Kaden Xavier’s sake, she became a flight surgeon.

A decision that countless people found to be a terrible waste.

Serena Nash took a sip of her whiskey. "Want me to ask Hugh Hale to help you with the divorce papers?"

"No, it’s fine." Wren shook her head, refusing.

Hugh Hale’s law firm also handled some of the Xavier Group’s business; she didn’t want to put him in a difficult position.

"Enough about that! Come on, let’s celebrate my impending return to single life. Tonight, we’re not going home until we’re drunk." Wren raised her glass and gestured to them.

"Alright! Once you’re divorced, your girl will line up some gorgeous guys for you right away," Joy shouted.

To cheer Wren up, both of them drank recklessly with her. Perhaps as a way to vent some pent-up emotion, Wren drank until her head started to feel fuzzy. She also really needed to use the restroom.

"I’m going to the restroom."

After refusing their offer to go with her, Wren swayed unsteadily down the hallway.

Suddenly, someone called out to her.

"Wren."

It was Kaden Xavier’s friend, Nathaniel Quinn.

Wren hadn’t expected to run into him here.

"What is it?"

Even though they had grown up together, Nathaniel Quinn didn’t like her and felt she had married above her station with Kaden Xavier.

So he was always cold to her when they met.

"Do you know why Kaden married you?" Nathaniel Quinn asked coldly.

Wren didn’t say anything.

"It’s because the old man would only let him continue being a pilot if he married you. If it weren’t for that, Kaden would never have married you in his life, and he wouldn’t have missed his chance with Seraphina. If you don’t want to be utterly humiliated, you should give up your position voluntarily."

Nathaniel Quinn’s words sobered Wren up considerably, and certain memories came flooding back.

So that’s it. The only reason he agreed to marry her after trying to back out was that his grandfather threatened him.

And she actually thought he liked her. If she had known he was in love with Seraphina Sutton, she never would have married him.

"Fine. Then please, go tell your precious Kaden to agree to the divorce. I’m more than willing to step aside."

After saying her piece, Wren didn’t even go to the restroom and simply turned back.

In this marriage, she was the real clown all along. All that talk about repaying a debt to Asher Lynch... it was all just a high-sounding excuse.

"You’d better do what you say." Nathaniel Quinn was taken aback for a few seconds, clearly not expecting Wren to be so decisive.

Is she really willing to leave him?

Wren’s face was pale as she picked up her phone and dialed the number she knew by heart.

A moment later, the call connected.

"Dr. Wynter, are you calling for Kaden?"
