Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

"I haven’t done anything to betray her," Kaden Xavier replied, stunned for a moment.

He hadn’t expected Wren Wynter to be so bothered by and resistant toward Seraphina Sutton, nor had he thought she would divorce him over it.

Perhaps his handling of the situation had been lacking, and he had made Wren Wynter suffer too much for Seraphina Sutton’s sake.

"No one knows for sure. As long as your conscience is clear, that’s all that matters."

Ho-ran Park had no intention of arguing the point with Kaden Xavier. After all, they had already signed the divorce papers. Finalizing the proceedings was only a matter of time.

With that, he picked up the medical chart and left the hospital room.

As soon as Wren Wynter returned to work at the hospital, a few of the doctors she was on good terms with made a special trip to check on her.

The fact that she had been injured was no secret in the hospital.

"I’m fine. Thank you all for your concern."

The hospital director, especially, breathed a sigh of relief and sent her a great deal of nutritional supplements.

"Dr. Wynter, it’s a good thing you’re alright. Otherwise, I really don’t know how I would have answered to Elder Hawthorne and Mr. Xavier," the director said, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead.

The day Wren Wynter had her accident, Julian Hawthorne had personally called him to demand how he was going to handle it.

Only after hearing he would handle the matter impartially did Julian’s anger subside.

And that was to say nothing of Kaden Xavier, who applied pressure both overtly and covertly.

"Director, you’re exaggerating. My mentor isn’t an unreasonable person. There were reasons for what happened; he wouldn’t blame you," Wren Wynter said placidly, automatically ignoring the other person he had mentioned.

Hearing Mason Shaw’s teasing, Wren Wynter offered a rare, genuine smile.

The familiar voice made Mason Shaw’s body go stiff.

"Dr. Lynch, you’re just in time. I looked at that patient you mentioned last time. Their post-operative healing is going very well, with no signs of rejection. We can write up the concluding notes."

"Okay."

Shelly Lynch walked in, but she didn’t spare Mason Shaw so much as a single glance, as if they were complete strangers.

"Oh, Dr. Shaw, I forgot to introduce you. This is my colleague, Dr. Shelly Lynch, from the same department."

"No need for introductions, Dr. Wynter. Dr. Shaw and I know each other. Very well, in fact." Shelly Lynch pushed up the glasses on her nose, her luscious red lips curling into a slight smile. "Isn’t that right, Dr. Shaw?"

Mason Shaw’s expression darkened, and his voice turned cool. "I have something to attend to. I won’t disturb you."

He turned and left the room. Shelly Lynch lowered her eyelids, a cold smirk playing on her lips as she retracted her gaze.

"Dr. Lynch, what did you need to see me about?"

"It’s a case from last week. It’s a bit tricky, and the department head asked me to discuss it with you," Shelly Lynch said, handing a medical chart to Wren Wynter.

"Alright. Let me take a look, and I’ll give you an answer tomorrow."

Shelly Lynch nodded and walked out of Wren Wynter’s consultation room.

When she returned to her own consultation room, she found Mason Shaw leaning against the wall by the door. His expression was not pleasant. Seeing her return, he immediately straightened up.

She let out a cold laugh and walked into her room.

Mason Shaw followed right behind her and locked the door.

"Is Dr. Shaw here to call me to account? Is it really necessary to be so protective of her?"

"Shelly Lynch, did you say anything you shouldn’t have in front of Wren Wynter?"

"What could I have said? I merely told her the truth."

The moment she finished speaking, Mason Shaw slammed a fist on the table, his eyes full of menace.

He reached out and grabbed Shelly Lynch’s chin, his icy voice entering her ears. "Do you really think I don’t dare to do anything to you? My dear fiancée."

"Mason Shaw, if you really dared, you wouldn’t have come to my office to interrogate me," Shelly Lynch said, forcing herself to remain calm. "It seems even the great Eldest Young Master Shaw has a weakness for pretty faces."

"My affairs are none of your business. You haven’t even married me yet. What, are you that fond of me? So eager to manage me as the Second Young Mistress Shaw before we’re even wed?"

"Shut up! Stop disgusting me!" A trace of disgust flashed in Shelly Lynch’s eyes. "Do you think I give a damn? If it weren’t for my father, I..."

"So you do remember your father. I was starting to think you’d forgotten, otherwise how would you dare to provoke my authority like this?"

Mason Shaw flung Shelly Lynch’s chin away, his eyes devoid of warmth. He straightened his white coat and turned to walk out of the room.

"If you don’t want your family to go bankrupt, then you’d better keep that mouth of yours shut. You’d best think carefully about what should and shouldn’t be said. Otherwise, you won’t be able to bear the consequences."

With that, he opened the door and strode out, his usual gentle expression back on his face.

As if all her strength had abandoned her, Shelly Lynch collapsed powerlessly to the floor. She covered her face with her hands, tears streaming through her fingers.
