Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers

"Dr. Park, please arrange for a transfer." Kaden Xavier’s gaze was frigid as it landed on Ho-ran Park, his voice low and grim.

"Kaden, are you insane?" Helen Sawyer demanded, her brows furrowed. "How can your grandmother possibly be transferred in her condition? What if something happens on the way?"

Lana Xavier also said tearfully, "Brother, let’s think of another way. That Wren Wynter..."

"If you don’t want anything to happen to Grandma, then both of you shut up," Kaden Xavier cut in sharply, his thin lips pressed into a razor-thin line. His expression was terrifyingly grim.

Seeing his expression, Helen Sawyer and Lana Xavier didn’t dare say another word.

Ho-ran Park wasted no time and called Wren Wynter.

The atmosphere was incredibly tense as they waited. No one spoke.

The call was answered just as it was about to disconnect.

"Hello?" Wren Wynter’s voice was tinged with fatigue.

She had just finished her outpatient clinic hours and was organizing patient files.

"Old Mrs. Xavier had a sudden heart attack. Her condition is critical, and I’m afraid you’re the only one who can operate," Ho-ran Park said, getting straight to the point.

"When will you arrive? I’ll start preparations immediately." Her fatigue vanished instantly as Wren Wynter fought to control her emotions, her questions urgent.

"In twenty minutes."

"Have the ambulance go directly to the emergency building. Dr. Shaw and I will be waiting there," Wren Wynter said, taking a deep breath.

"Got it."

After hanging up, Wren Wynter quickly contacted the operating room and Mason Shaw, getting everything ready.

「Twenty minutes later.」

The wail of an ambulance siren grew closer.

The ambulance doors opened, and Old Madam Xavier was carefully lifted out by the medical staff.

Her wrinkled face was ashen, her breathing faint, and her body was connected to various monitors.

"Take her straight to the operating room." Wren Wynter’s brow furrowed, a grave look in her eyes.

"Okay."

Kaden Xavier followed closely, his eyes fixed on Wren Wynter as he pleaded in a low voice, "My grandmother... I’m begging you."

’Even if he didn’t know how skilled Wren Wynter truly was, the fact that Ho-ran Park—a student of the great Julian Hawthorne—believed only she could handle this was proof enough. She was probably even better than him.’

’And yet, he’d never known.’

"I’ll do my best." Looking at his bloodshot eyes, Wren Wynter felt her heart clench. She turned and replied softly.

"Thank you," Kaden Xavier said.

A stray lock of hair fell across Wren Wynter’s right cheek. Kaden Xavier fought the urge to brush it away with his fingertips, just as he used to.

Wren Wynter went into the operating room.

Kaden Xavier waited outside. Not long after, Helen Sawyer and Lana Xavier arrived.

The minutes ticked by.

Six hours later, the surgery was finally over.

Wren Wynter straightened up and let out a long breath. "The surgery was a success. Thank you for your hard work, everyone."

But she knew it wasn’t over yet.

Her gaze fell on the monitor, and her brow creased with concern.

"Great work, Dr. Wynter!"

The rest of the surgical team said in unison.

Over the past few days, they had witnessed her incredible skill and were now filled with profound respect for her.

The moment Wren Wynter stepped out of the OR, the Xaviers immediately crowded around her.

"Wren, how’s Grandma?" Kaden Xavier asked anxiously.

Wren Wynter removed her surgical mask, her face etched with exhaustion. "The surgery was a success."

Helen Sawyer and Lana Xavier began to cry with relief, but Wren’s next words made their smiles freeze.

"However, due to prolonged cerebral ischemia from the heart attack, she suffered a massive cerebral infarction. She’s now in a deep coma. Simply put, she’s in a vegetative state."

"A vegetative state?" Lana Xavier shrieked. "How could that be? Didn’t you say the surgery was successful?"

"The surgery was a success, meaning her heart issue is resolved. But the brain damage is irreversible," Wren Wynter explained patiently. "All we can do now is maintain her vital signs. Whether or not she’ll wake up depends on her recovery process."

Helen Sawyer’s vision went dark, and she nearly fainted.

Kaden Xavier caught her and turned to Wren Wynter. "Is there nothing else we can do?"

Wren Wynter lowered her gaze, speaking only after a long pause. "I can perform acupuncture on her daily to stimulate her nerves, but I can’t guarantee she’ll wake up."

’She was so full of life just a few days ago. How did things turn out like this so suddenly?’

Wren Wynter felt a pang of sorrow, but she was good at hiding her emotions.

"Acupuncture?" Helen Sawyer grabbed Wren’s hand. "Wren, would you be willing to come every day to perform acupuncture on Grandma?"

This was the first time in a long while that Helen Sawyer had called her Wren.

"Yes." Wren Wynter nodded.

’I will find a way to save Grandma.’

From that day on, Wren Wynter came to give Old Madam Xavier acupuncture every day after her shift.

Her technique was precise and skillful, and she was completely absorbed in the task each time.

Helen Sawyer and Lana Xavier’s attitudes gradually shifted from initial suspicion to respect as they witnessed Wren’s medical expertise firsthand.

One day, just as Wren had finished the acupuncture session for Old Madam Xavier and was packing up her needles to leave, the door to the room swung open.

Seraphina Sutton and Nathaniel Quinn entered.

Seraphina’s lips were still pale, but she looked to be recovering well.

Her eyes flickered when she saw Wren. She then walked briskly to Kaden Xavier’s side and said softly, "Kaden, I heard something happened to Grandma Xavier and came to see how she is."

Kaden Xavier nodded, but his gaze remained on Wren.

Seraphina noticed his stare, and a surge of jealousy washed over her.

She turned to look at Wren, her expression turning pitiful. "Dr. Wynter, your medical skills are so incredible. You can even treat an illness as serious as Grandma Xavier’s. In that case... back then... my baby..."

She choked on her words. "If you had been willing to save my baby back then, he would still be alive, wouldn’t he?"

With that accusation, the atmosphere in the room shifted dramatically.

Nathaniel Quinn immediately chimed in. "That’s right! Wren, if you’re so capable, why didn’t you save Seraphina’s baby? You knew how important that child was to her. Did you let it happen on purpose?"

Wren’s hand, which had been packing her needles, paused. She looked up and said calmly, "Obstetrics and gynecology is not my specialty."

"But you’re a doctor!" Tears streamed down Seraphina’s face. "Aren’t doctors supposed to save people? Why did you just watch and do nothing? Is it because you hate me? Did you intentionally refuse to save my baby?"

Her words were like a knife twisting in Kaden Xavier’s heart. "Wren," he asked, "did you really do it on purpose?"

Wren looked at them and let out a cold, humorless laugh. The entire situation was suddenly laughable.

She set down her needle case and said calmly, "Kaden Xavier, I will tell you this one last time. I did not push Seraphina Sutton, and I did not intentionally refuse to save her baby. If you don’t believe me, then there’s nothing more to say."

With that, she picked up her bag and walked out of the room.

"Cole, do you believe her?" Nathaniel Quinn asked, his disbelief obvious.

Kaden Xavier didn’t answer, but Wren no longer cared what he might say.

「Three days later, on the day of her aunt’s surgery.」

Outside the operating room, Finn Wynter was pacing nervously. When he saw Wren approaching in her surgical scrubs, he rushed to meet her. "Wren, I’m counting on you for my mom."

Wren replied, "Don’t worry, Finn. Dr. Shaw and I will do our absolute best."

The surgery took four hours and went very smoothly.

Wren and Mason Shaw worked in perfect sync, each step of the procedure executed with flawless precision.

When word came that the surgery was a success, Finn was so overcome with emotion that his eyes reddened.

「In the hospital room.」

Her aunt wasn’t fully awake yet, but her vital signs were stable.

Finn’s voice was thick with unshed tears. "Wren, thank you."

"What are you saying, Finn?" Wren removed her mask, her expression softening. "You and Auntie are the only family I have left in this world. But even setting that aside, as a doctor, it’s my duty to save lives."

Just then, Mason Shaw walked over. "Mr. Wynter," he said to Finn, "as long as Ms. Wynter gets proper rest during her recovery, there shouldn’t be any major issues."
