Chinano was explaining the effects of the Red Eyes, while Gaara discreetly listened in, using his sand to eavesdrop on their conversation.
Beyond the village, the wind howled, rustling the leaves as they clashed against each other. Amidst the natural sounds, machines roared in the distance, and the gate guard swung his sword in practice—perhaps to remind himself that he was still alive.
"The excitement belongs to them... but not to me."
"I don't share the joys or sorrows of human beings. To me, they're just noisy."
The Silent Clone sighed, tearing his gaze away from the village behind him. His mission was clear—he was to infiltrate Konoha as an undercover agent.
But first, there was an important question to answer...
"Which way is Konoha?"
The Silent Clone thought for a moment, considering whether to ask Zixu. However, since he only retained critical memories rather than syncing with the original, he found it unnecessary. If Zixu's memory was like a 1-terabyte archive, a normal clone would receive a complete copy. But he was different. Initially, he could retain about 100 megabytes of useful data, but over time, he became more indifferent, choosing only essential memories. Eventually, he only retained directory references rather than the actual files.
And now, that selective memory had left him lost.
He wasn't about to tell the original, though. He knew if Zixu found out, he'd probably exploit it somehow.
"This should be the right way..." The Silent Clone made a decision at the crossroads of life, uncertain if it was correct but pressing forward nonetheless.
As expected, he got lost.
The correct path to Konoha should've taken him past several streams, a vast forest, and scorched earth before the village outskirts came into view. But the path he chose led him somewhere entirely different.
A peach forest.
He wandered along a stream surrounded by blooming peach blossoms, their petals so uniform that not a single odd one could be found. Eventually, he arrived at a cave. He felt no sense of danger—after all, how could someone with a blank "Konoha Road File" even realize he was off course?
The cave's interior was narrow and suffocating, reminiscent of a burial passage. Whoever built it clearly had no sense of proper design, and the oppressive atmosphere only added to the discomfort.
Luckily, after pushing through, his vision suddenly expanded.
It was like a classic tale of journeying through mountains and rivers—just when you thought there was no way forward, a new world unfolded before your eyes.
And what lay before him was...
Rows upon rows of neatly arranged graves.
Each tomb had a carefully laid path leading to it, surrounded by evenly planted bamboo groves. Paper effigies of white chickens and yellow dogs stood stiffly like eerie sentinels, swaying slightly in the wind. Despite the bright daylight, the air carried a chilling breeze, whispering through the bamboo.
From deep within the forest, birds cried out in mournful tones, their calls scraping against the silence like desperate wails of the dead.
"The bamboo here is growing well... Tuanzi would probably love eating it."
(TL: Tuanzi = Black snake. He name it himself
Whether due to his thick skin or sheer obliviousness, the Silent Clone showed no fear at all. Instead, his thoughts wandered to his companion's love for bamboo.
It was ironic—despite his lazy nature, he somehow got along best with the overly disciplined Tuanzi. Fate was a strange thing.
He continued walking. Whatever eerie scene surrounded him was nothing compared to the horrors of "996 Blessing," Zixu's terrifying work schedule theory. That was true evil! If that ever became reality, he'd be strung up on a lamppost for sure.
"There are so many graves here... Kabuto would be thrilled if he saw this."
Ignoring the paper effigies, the Silent Clone proceeded forward. He noticed a stream flowing through the graveyard. If he followed the water, he should be able to find an exit.
And sure enough, he did.
By tracing the riverbed, he bypassed a stone wall and emerged from the sea of graves.
It was worth noting that, along the way, he discovered numerous human-like corpses submerged in the water, their tattered clothes indicating they were likely civilians who had starved to death long ago. From which era, he couldn't tell.
After shaking the river water from his clothes, he walked for a while until he finally saw the silhouette of a village in the distance. The sun, once high in the sky, was now dipping toward the horizon, stars beginning to peek through the darkening sky.
"Time for a disguise."
Before entering the village, the Silent Clone used the Transformation Technique to alter his appearance.
The soaked red-haired "drowned rat" disappeared, replaced by an entirely different figure.
His short hair turned golden. A red hooded cloak draped over his shoulders, its drawstrings adorned with a heart-shaped ornament. A black feathered coat layered over a light pink shirt, splattered with randomly arranged red hearts. White jeans and brown boots completed the look. A cigarette dangled lazily from his lips, adding to his slacker demeanor.
If not for the absence of clown makeup, he would've been the spitting image of Donquixote Rocinante—Corazon.
Yet no disguise could mask the deeply ingrained laziness in his expression.
"This should do."
Now satisfied, Rosinante—the Silent Clone—swaggered into the village, heading straight for the local restaurant.
One had to eat well when traveling, especially when it was on someone else's dime.
As soon as he stepped inside, a blonde woman with long, wavy hair lunged at him. Hot on her heels was another woman, holding a small piglet.
Rosinante felt a strange sense of déjà vu. Moving with swift, fluid motions, he effortlessly dodged the blonde's desperate tackle. Letting her hit him would've meant the end of his clone.
The blonde didn't seem to care whether she succeeded or not. She collapsed onto the floor, stretching her arms toward him in a dramatic plea.
"Ahhh! I lost it all again! I can't even afford a meal! I'm starving! Kind sir, please lend me some money for food! I swear I'll pay you back tenfold!"
Her body trembled pitifully, making Rosinante's eyes twitch.
Behind her, the woman with the piglet smiled awkwardly and tugged at her sleeve.
"Lady Tsunade... please, have some dignity."
Tsunade, however, was glued to the floor like a stubborn adhesive. She had no intention of moving unless Rosinante handed over some cash.
The clone studied her carefully.
She was... big.
Looked well-fed too.
Was she really starving? Or was she just trying to scam gambling money off him?
He pulled his arm free from her grip. No way was he falling for this.
"You look so pitiful. You must not have had a full meal in a long time." He put on an expression of sympathy, like a naive young master from a wealthy family.
"Grrrrr~"
Tsunade's stomach betrayed her, growling loudly. She nodded sincerely—despite the fact that she'd eaten just a few hours ago.
"...But I refuse."
His expression hardened. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"I love saying no to self-righteous people. So, no."
"As long as I win, I'll return the money with interest! I can feel it—this time, I'll win for sure!" Tsunade shot up to her feet, exuding an overwhelming confidence.
Her aura... it was just like Zixu's when he pulled gacha.
"Hmm... quite the gambler."
Rosinante couldn't help but be intrigued.
What was it about this kind of game that was so addictive?
Both his original and this big-breasted woman before him seemed utterly obsessed.
Maybe... he should try it out himself?
