"Support from the Akatsuki? Fine by me." Guren sneered, her expression cold and indifferent. In her eyes, this masked stranger who appeared out of nowhere was more of a threat than an ally. The situation had already gone to hell—she had no expectations left.
Tobi remained silent. It wasn't that he didn't want to talk, but he was still trying to figure out who the hell this masked man was. There shouldn't be anyone like him in the Akatsuki, so there was only one explanation.
"This guy's backing? Doesn't matter," he muttered to himself. One more or one less—he'd just kill them all.
The masked man, with a long ponytail and dressed in a light blue warrior's uniform, calmly rested his hand on the sword at his waist. His tone was composed and steady.
"I'm a member of the Hundred Teaching Academy of Uzushio no Kuni (Land of Whirlpools). You two can call me Kazekiri. As for the Akatsuki—you're not getting the Three-Tails."
The clone revealed his identity, but Guren didn't lower her guard. Who knew if this guy was bluffing? What was really in his mind? How could she trust someone so suspicious?
"The Land of Whirlpools... Kazekiri..." Tobi gaze shifted slightly. He seemed to recall something but showed no signs of backing down. His goal was still the Three-Tails.
Seeing that the enemy had no intention of leaving, the clone made his move.
He drew his sword with a single hand, then gripped it with both. A cyclone of wind burst from around his body, warping the air. Though the surrounding environment bent under the pressure, his blade remained untouched—its speed and sharpness seemed to grow within the storm.
With a sweeping slash, a wall of wind formed between him and Tobi.
But this wasn't an ordinary wall of wind. Shattered crystal fragments were woven into its currents. Anyone who touched it would be torn apart by razor-sharp wind blades and jagged shards.
Tobi didn't care. In Uzushio, only members of the actual Uzumaki clan deserved his attention. Kazekiri? Never heard of him.
He adjusted his posture and attempted to phase through the wall of wind.
His form blurred, like a flickering old movie missing frames. He passed through the wall unharmed, untouched—as if it wasn't there.
But the moment he returned to physical form, something felt wrong.
"This damn wind wall... it's following me," he muttered, glancing around. No matter how he moved, it stayed with him, locking him in.
The shape of the wall shifted rapidly, curling inward, threatening to trap him in a sphere of slicing death.
Tobi wasn't a fool. His combat instincts were sharp. If the wind wall followed him, maybe he could use it to his advantage.
Sure, he could try to drag it toward Kazekiri. But the odds weren't great. Instead, he phased underground.
As expected, the wall followed him down—but its power weakened thanks to the soil. Dirt exploded three to four meters into the air, and finally, the wind wall collapsed.
Guren and Youkimaru vanished into the chaos. She didn't know anything about Kazekiri true strength, and she figured it was better to let the two sides fight it out. If Kazekiri died? Not her problem.
But fate wasn't so kind.
As she fled with Youkimaru, a deranged-looking man came charging toward them—wielding a massive sickle and wearing a wild grin.
"Tch. No clues yet? Guess I'll just kill you," Hidan muttered, clearly unhinged. Murder was second nature to him—it didn't require logic.
It was a lucky coincidence for him. Unfortunately, Tobi and the clone couldn't just let Guren and Youkimaru escape. Their target was the Three-Tails.
"Oi, oi, Tobi! Looks like I'm the one getting the win this time!" Hidan laughed, guessing from the looks of it that these two had some connection to the Three-Tails.
The clone actually cracked a small smile. Oh? This idiot again. Last time they had baited him around like a damn kite, and it had pissed him off royally. Clearly, this guy had a few screws loose.
"You bastard! I don't know why, but I wanna kill you so bad!" Hidan yelled, veins bulging.
"Go ahead and try," the clone replied coldly. He slashed forward, sending a blade of compressed wind and sword energy toward Hidan's spinning sickle.
Funny thing—the original Zixu always dreamed of being a swordsman. But his sword skills? Hot garbage. He could swing a stick better than a blade.
The clone, though? Totally different. Same base stats, but his sword talent? Insane. Even the original body had started to question reality.
"Tobi! Go grab those two. I'll handle this idiot," Hidan barked, not even realizing that something was off about Tobi.
"Yeah," Tobi nodded, walking off without a second glance.
The clone didn't stop him. A one-on-two would be rough, and this idiot Hidan was the perfect distraction. Guren and the kid would have to fend for themselves for now.
Zheng~ The sound of the sword resonated sharply. Some kind of resonance formed between the clone and Hidan, as the wind around them swirled even more violently. But the blade in the clone's hands stayed perfectly steady, like it was breathing with the air itself.
"Die, bastard!" Hidan shouted, swinging his chained sickle like a meteor hammer. The whirling blade cut through the air, gathering gale-force winds.
But the clone didn't move.
The breeze gently lifted his sleeves. His ponytail flowed wildly behind him, but his sword remained still—until it didn't.
Zheng~
The blade returned to its sheath. The motion was so fast, Hidan didn't even see the draw.
Kacha~
The iron chain binding Hidan's sickle to his waist snapped cleanly. The sickle spun away, disappearing into the air.
"Tch, you little—" Hidan's sentence stopped cold. A sudden chill spread across his chest.
The clone's wind-infused blade had already pierced straight through.
"When... when did you...?" Hidan's eyes widened, shocked—but not afraid. He had already activated his Shinigami no Chi (Death God's Blood), making him immortal.
That strike? Lightning-fast and unreal. But the clone wasn't about to explain anything. Better if Hidan didn't get it—even in death.
The trick had been in the wind.
Hidan had thought he'd established a link with the clone earlier—he wasn't wrong. A stream of air had been connecting them the whole time. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
The moment the clone severed the sickle chain, he hadn't just stopped. He'd fired a hidden blade from his sleeve, riding the wind line Hidan didn't even realize existed. As he sheathed his sword, the hidden blade landed the real blow.
A single slash, but two cuts. Too fast to react, too smooth to avoid.
