Chapter 32: Nature

"Can you give that to me?!"

Feng Rouyun’s excited voice interrupts Chu Xining and Yang Yueran and they both turn towards the young man whose eyes are now glued to the potted plant Chu Xining is holding.

The expression on his face was something that they haven’t seen at all. Usually he was calm and obedient but right now, his eyes are sparkling bright and he keeps on looking at the potted plant with strange excitement and anticipation.

This made Chu Xining subconsciously hug the potted plant tighter yet much to their surprise, Feng Rouyun actually rushed towards him with a worried place.

"Wait! Don’t hug it too close, let it breathe!"

"What are you doing?!" Chu Xining frowned and took a step back. He looked at Yang Yueran with doubt about the sudden situation.

Yang Yueran observed Feng Rouyun and noticed that he was really looking forward to holding that plant. His eyes showed no malice but it was like hoping into something related to that plant.

"Leader," Upon noticing that Chu Xining won’t give it to him, Feng Rouyun quickly turned towards Yang Yueran who subconsciously nodded when he met those pleading eyes directly pointed at him.

"Look! The leader said that I can, please let me hold it for a second." Feng Rouyun’s eyes lit up and gestured to the latter to bring the potted plant to him.

Chu Xining frowns but eventually gives it after Yang Yueran signals him again.

He passes it to the young man casually but who knows that Feng Rouyun actually held it very carefully in his hands. He was even more dumbfounded. What the heck is he doing?

Feng Rouyun didn’t care about what surrounds him because at this moment, all his attention and focus lies on the plant he’s holding. He carefully observed every corner of it and even leaned his face close but he could really see it clearly!

This plant has the same energy of the minerals he uses to replenish his spiritual power! Feng Rouyun felt like stumbled upon a treasure right now. This was like seeing an oasis in the middle of a desert, giving him a feeling of chance and opportunity.

He raises his other palm and he begins channeling the energy coming from the potted plant slowly to Feng Rouyun. And what surprised him even more was that the energy that enters his body felt very warm and clean. It looks brighter, refreshed and pure than the minerals he’s been using in the past.

But how is it possible? And since it’s a plant that can be seen everywhere here sounds like the planet, why does it look like they don’t care about it at all? Or they have not discovered its usefulness? Because judging from the people around him, it really looked like they knew nothing about the mental pollution on them.

Meanwhile as Feng Rouyun became immersed in extracting the energy on the planet, he didn’t notice how Chu Xining and Yang Yueran went silent.

The two were just curiously watching him when they saw the after raise his hand and softly touch the plant, and in the next second, that familiar energy suddenly surrounds them.

It was only a subtle feeling because Feng Rouyun didn’t point it out directly to them but they could feel it. There was something different from the atmosphere around Feng Rouyun.

Although it also didn’t ease the pain on their heads, it was like a sudden cold wind you felt amidst the sunny weather. Just passing through for a second but it caught all your attention.

But before they could ask, Feng Rouyun abruptly stopped and looked at Chu Xining with another anticipation again.

"C-Can..." His delicate face flushed with shyness but the latter still took that part to ask them.

"... C-Can I have this?"

"???" Chu Xining was speechless. "What?"

"I’m asking for a favor. I know that our relationship isn’t good and you might need this plant but I really do have to have this."

"Why?" Yang Yueran asked.

"Because there’s energy here." Feng Rouyun answered truthfully. "The moment I laid my eyes on it, I saw the mist of energy like what those minerals in the past were like." He looked at the two with a right smile on his face.

"I can help you even more with this!"

Yang Yueran’s face shows surprise. "Really?"

The young man nodded. His words were actually odd and something that’s really hard to believe but as he looked at the sincerity in Feng Rouyun’s eyes, he went silent.

Then all of the sudden his face turned sharp and stoic.

"Aren’t you afraid I’ll hand you to the police?"

The atmosphere went frozen at his sudden changes. Even Gu Weiyi who just entered the gym room and heard those words were taken aback.

Feng Rouyun stilled and looked at him in confusion. "Police?"

"Yeah, or even maybe the mental hospital institution for saying these things. Do you believe I can do that?" Yang Yueran didn’t hesitate to threaten the young man who looked utterly bewildered.

"Brother Ran?" Gu Weiyi couldn’t help but show more surprise. Why is he doing this? Is he scaring Feng Rouyun?

"Why are you telling this so openly to us?" Yang Yueran asked.

He wanted to know Feng Rouyun’s intention. Ever since the start, he had been so willing to announce his ability and even voluntarily use it to them knowing that he didn’t know how to replenish it. Isn’t that just ’wasting’ his ability on those who were the people who didn’t care about him? They were treating him so badly yet he was still willing to do this?

Or does he think that doing this would make them accept him without a second thought? Maybe they’ll feel guilty and think that they owe him something?

Chu Xining and Gu Weiyi noticed his intention and also waited for Feng Rouyun. Will he start making his excuses now? Or even lie and pretend to be generous?

"Why wouldn’t I?" Feng Rouyun asked him back instead. His eyes were staring straight at him.

"...."

They went silent at that question.

Gu Weiyi narrowed his eyes. "Are you pitying us perhaps?" The tone of his voice sounds a bit sharper too. He hates when someone feels pity on them because he knows they don’t need that.

But the young man tilted his head as if he didn’t understand. "Why would I?" He sounds even more confused than them.

"Then why are you doing this?" Chu Xining was also added.

"Because we have a deal, right?" Feng Rouyun was unexpectedly straightforward too. "I’m doing my best to find ways because I accepted the deal and I took responsibility for it."

"...." The room fell in silence once again. Looking at Feng Rouyun, his eyes show no hesitation or lying on them, just pureness and honesty towards them.

Yang Yueran didn’t say anything after hearing those words. He merely stared at the young man’s expression over and over again before sighing.

He opened his mouth and was about to say something when the latter continued.

"And I have this ability to help others, why do I need a reason?"

Just like that, the words that want to escape from his lips disappear when he hears those words.

Why? Because not everything in this world can just be given voluntarily. No matter what, do not give everything to others, wasn’t that already a common sense to yourself? And that wasn’t even a selfish thing but it’s called self-protection.

Why do you even just want to give everything without worrying yourself first?

Is Feng Rouyun just being two-faced? If Yang Yueran hears these words from the past, he might nod without a second thought and even think of how pretentious he is.

But even just a short time this morning, he had seen his sincerity to earn and grow for the group and himself. Yang Yueran let these thoughts flash on his mind and calmed down.

"Aright." He took back his menacing look and went close to Feng Rouyun. "Is your condition much better now after taking the energy from it?" he asked.

The young man nodded happily. "Yes, although there’s still a gap, it’s much different from the usual tiny bit I can get from resting. This plant really helps me."

He raises his hand and touches the leaves of the plant. What’s the reason why only this plant can have the energy when it was not used before? How did the usual energy from the minerals become plants? What made the medium change?

His eyes narrowed and thought about the two for a while before a realization hit him.

He might probably be mistaken for thinking that way. Maybe this was not about the changes of the medium— rather, it never changes anyway.

Minerals and plants have one thing in common.

They are created by something natural. Not through man-made and from inorganic nature.

"Nature..." he muttered. That’s right, from nature.

Feng Rouyun was able to use the energies from both of these because they have the same fundamentals, from the natural creation of Earth.
