Chapter 24: Food

He nodded. "I can wear my headphones."

"Better!" She agrees. "Also, don’t go out for now. You cannot be photographed by anyone yet. If you had plans, I’m sorry but you can’t do it."

"It’s okay, Sister Ru." He assures her again. "I’m not going out."

Ru Anyan smiled. "That’s good."

They continued fixing his things inside the room and finished it minutes later.

"Lunch will be delivered here on time. I’ll be going now." Ru Anyan went close and patted his shoulder. "Remember to call me if anything happens. Don’t be afraid."

He nodded again.

When Ru Anyan left his room, Feng Rouyun once again looked around before sitting on the side of his bed.

That second handshake from Yang Yueran flashes on his mind. He actually didn’t use his spiritual power that time.

Ru Anyan didn’t know how he could replenish the energy inside him. The sleep last night was just barely put back a little but that was too different in the past.

The medium that he was used to before wasn’t the same in this life. If that couldn’t help him, how could he continue this?

Even though he was not in the same position as before, he could still feel the sense of responsibility for helping others.

It’s like an instinct that has been engraved on his bones. Of course he also wouldn’t mind. As someone who has the capability to heal mental pollution, it’s only natural for him to help them as much as he could.

Thus he wanted to find a way to replenish this energy.

Even in this world, there’s also many people quietly waiting for his service.

Feng Rouyun took a deep breath and just as he was about to pick up his phone on the side, a knock was heard on the door.

And he was surprised to see who’s outside.

It was Gu Weiyi.

"Sister Ru told me to call you when lunch is here." The latter said with a hint of impatience and left without waiting for his response.

He couldn’t help but sigh deeply again.

Forget about his spiritual energy, the biggest problem here currently is his own situation in this group.

He could feel their impatience being with him, the unwillingness and unwelcome words were truthfully harsh.

It’s like a painful stab on his chest every time he hears it.

But he also knew that he just had to stay silent for now.

He has nothing to prove his worth, only his stubbornness to stay when he himself was not confident to take this role.

Feng Rouyun calmed himself before going out of the room and went to the living room where he saw the three sitting in a circle on the table.

There was food in front of them to share altogether... and also some on a separate small table on their side.

This is clearly telling him they don’t want to dine with him.

However they acted as if they didn’t notice his presence and were chatting while eating.

Feng Rouyun of course just gulped down the lump on his throat and silently picked up the food on the side. And instead of sitting down in his place, he left the living room and went to the kitchen instead.

He saw a stool and just sat there casually before starting to eat.

Honestly he didn’t mind their actions, but that doesn’t also mean that he wanted to tolerate it. He won’t say anything nor even do something but will just distance himself and stay in that suffocating space where they couldn’t deal with each other.

Furthermore, Feng Rouyun doesn’t want to ruin his appetite in such a foul mood.

"Wow, it’s a little bit different. This is more salty but I like it even more." He couldn’t help but mutter softly while staring at the simple egg omelette roll on his plate.

The ingredients and everything are the same but there’s more saltiness which he was unexpectedly like given from the balance and bland foods he was given in the past.

One thing that he was glad about coming here was the deliciousness of their food. The taste was way different from before. Even though they have the same kind, they are somehow different too. Given the frequent war, researchers had long discovered how to artificially create meat, vegetables, fruits, etc.

No matter how they put it, it was different from the freshness directly from the source itself, just like now.

He also eagerly drinks cans of soda and his mood lightens when he tastes that sweetness and acidity on his tongue. This was one thing he could not drink in the past. To keep his body healthy, he has to follow his personal nutritionist.

He couldn’t remember when it was last or did he even tasted it in his past life. But he’s really with these little things he could now have.

Feng Rouyun willingly and voluntarily followed that strict lifestyle in the past. He didn’t regret nor thought of rebelling but the little satisfaction he felt at this moment was such a treat in his heart, completely dissipating his bad mood earlier.

Yet of course, things had to end because just as he was in a good mood while eating, footsteps were heard from behind and he saw Gu Weiyi entering the kitchen.

"...." Two eyes met and the familiar awkwardness quickly engulfed them.

Feng Rouyun subtly looked away and bowed his head slightly. He didn’t really want to quarrel again nor listen to their words again.

His actions on picking the food also slowed down and he just felt like the food went back to their blandless again, disrupting his appetite.

He just felt like stopping and was about to put down his chopsticks and clean his things to go back to his room when Gu Weiyi broke the ice.

"Hey," the latter called and stood in front of him.

And to his surprise, Gu Weiyi suddenly stretched out his hand in front of him.

"???" Confusion flashed on his eyes and he finally looked at the latter with that expression.

There was hesitation and reluctance on Gu Weiyi’s face but his hand didn’t move back.

"Shake hands with me." He ordered with a tone that as if he didn’t want to do it.

"??!!" Feng Rouyun was even more dumbfounded. "W-What?"

"Don’t ask anything and just shake it!" Eventually the young man ordered again with a hint of impatience but Feng Rouyun just hesitantly raised his hand and didn’t shake hands with.

He doesn’t just know what he was up to.

This hit some nerve on Gu Weiyi as he quickly grabbed his hands instead.

"!!!" Feng Rouyun just stared at him with bewilderment but the latter didn’t care and just began shaking his hand to even squeeze it a bit.

The latter’s frown also went deeper and deeper until he let go of it himself.

Feng Rouyun saw him staring weirdly at his own hand before leaving, leaving him standing with a completely flabbergasted face.

What are they up to?
