Chapter 15: Challenge

Ellipis debuted with a sharp concept even from the start until now. On their first song, it was entitled as Rebellion and ever since that, it always tackles about them being untamed, even from different circumstances and the people around them.

The songs are fast and full of spikes but also vary in genres. They can do rock, hip-hop, drill type, disco, metal, and EDM. In short, it’s full of explosiveness.

Now that another member was added to the group, they’ve discussed this for a long time and decided on changing many things to the concept while also maintaining the vibe and the main concept.

"We added more storyline to the concept. Here," Director Cha flashes a storyboard on the screen. "We’ve reviewed all the music videos and songs from the very beginning to connect with this..."

While the discussion was going on, Feng Rouyun didn’t notice the three members were sneaking a glance at him.

They wanted to observe this new guy. Truth to what Gu Weiyi said, he really looks different to them.

While they have sharp claws, this guy probably didn’t have any spikes on him, just full of softness.

Yang Yueran frowned a bit. As the leader, he thinks more in a logical form. Sending someone like Feng Rouyun that not only has a different temperament but they also didn’t know his capabilities.

How will his performance affect the whole group? Can he keep up? Is he suitable?

"For the next album, we wanted to try something different." Director Cha added after sometime. "In order to make the plot more strong and deep, we wanted the group to try acting."

Gu Weiyi’s brow raised interest. "Acting? How?"

"A concept trailer for teasers and previews before the whole album drops." Director Cha answered. "It’ll be just a short film to further explain the storyline."

Hearing it made others nod in interest. Putting a short film will really make the group more interesting. Nowadays, the generation is very interested in literature. Whether through movies, music or books, creating a storyline will build up the attraction and mysteriousness of Ellipsis.

But just as they’re feeling excited, words coming from Chu Xining broke their fantasy.

"Can he keep up?"

All of them looked at Chu Xining who bluntly spoke those words even in front of Feng Rouyun himself.

"I heard he doesn’t have any background in music, whether in singing or dancing. It’ll take time to learn all of it, especially with the group’s rhythm. Now you’re adding this, can he even take it all?" The tone of his voice was full of doubt about the capabilities of the young man in front of him.

"...." The room went back to the awkward silence again.

It’s harsh considering the person he talked about is just right in front of them, yet that’s also the truth.

Feng Rouyun had to keep up all the things and practice and now another thing was added.

"I also have a question," Gu Weiyi added with a light tone while a cunning smile flashed on his lips. "Since the company wants him to be fully integrated in the group, does that mean that all the choreography and parts of the song will change too to insert him?"

He even specifically added the words ’company wants him’ to really emphasize who wants this set-up, not minding if this bluntly saying that it was just the company wanting Feng Rouyun and not them.

A producer cleared his throat. "We consider this too and just let Feng Rouyun start for this new comeback. There’s no need for us to change what we had in the past."

"Oh," Gu Weiyi nodded in understanding and smiled brightly at Feng Rouyun. "It’s really convenient then."

Ru Anyan couldn’t help but do a fake cough and signals Yang Yueran in hope to calm down the two, but who is Yang Yueran if he didn’t add the fire?

"Since we don’t even know his capabilities. Why not try it now?" He straight forwardly turned to Feng Rouyun. "You’ve been familiarizing yourself with the group and I’m pretty sure that you’re practicing, why not sing at least?"

"!!!" The room was filled with gasps in bewilderment. All eyes now stare at the young man who just stayed silent all throughout the discussion.

A piece of surprise also flashed in his eyes and he subconsciously looked at Ru Anyan who is now rubbing her temples with a headache.

"That’s right. Since you didn’t accept my offer to you, then that means you’re confident to stay in the group, isn’t it?" Gu Weiyi’s eyes were filled with schemes as he put fuel to the fire once more.

"...." Feng Rouyun stayed silent.

This made Gu Weiyi feel more irritated. Look! Just staying silent and using his pitiful face! Does he think that acting weak right now will save him? I won’t allow it!

He just felt that like from the distant relatives he had, he remembered that one particular girl who acts weak and pitiful in front of everyone just to gain favor and sympathy. What’s next that Feng Rouyun will do? Will he also fake cry to avoid this challenge?

He could already imagine various excuses that he will make—

"What do you want me to sing?"

His train of thought was cut off when he heard the voice.

His eyes widened a bit. He didn’t back out? He didn’t find an excuse?

Even Ru Anyan was shocked at the side and wanted to speak for the young man but she saw Director Cha shooting at her lightly. She could only sigh and let the matters happen.

They will know Feng Rouyun’s capabilities sooner or later anyway, it’s already inevitable.

"Then sing us the first verse and chorus of Rebellion." Chu Xining quickly inserted.

"... Alright."

A staff member quickly prepared the lyrics on the phone and handed it to the young man. Next, all of them stayed silent and nervously looked at the young man with a hint of anticipation. But it’s unclear whether they are hoping that Feng Rouyun will do good or fail this.

They only hide their sudden nervousness and wait for the outcome.

Meanwhile, Feng Rouyun looked down at the lyrics. This was also the first song he heard from them. He found it fascinating and honestly felt difficult because right after the chorus that Chu Xining asked was a rap version.

It’ll be hard for someone like him.

Which also means that Chu Xining deliberately picks this in an attempt to embarrass him in front of everyone.
