I watched them make out in front of everyone, my fists tightening against the hem of my coat. I turned my face away, swallowing my tears. I never imagined I’d return and tolerate all of this again, but thanks to my mother, here I was—suffering.

"Oh my, it seems like he’s already moved on from you. And that girl, she looks way better than you, I must say," my mother remarked, making me turn to her in disbelief.

"Don’t look at me, I’m just being honest with you. As your mother, I suppose I can tell you that Lara has everything you don’t. She has elegance, beauty, power, strength, intelligence, and most importantly, the Alpha King’s heart," she continued with a snicker, shaking her head at me as if it was foolish to ever think the Alpha King could fall for me.

I stayed silent as we made our way to the rogue land. It was only after I arrived at my new home in the rogue land early in the morning that I realized my parents had planned everything from the moment they brought me home.

They had this house. They had everything arranged to leave traces behind to make it look like I’d lived a rogue’s life.

I rolled my eyes and stepped out. There was only one house, a beautiful one, standing on an abandoned road. There seemed to be other projects starting around us, but they looked like they had been stopped midway.

Not many rogues had the means or money to build their own homes. As for us, this house was definitely built for a purpose.

I walked in with my mother behind me and noticed the nanny getting up from the couch right away. My kids looked pretty bored too. The moment Colin and Amy saw me, they ran to me, wrapping their arms around my legs.

"Mommy, thank you so much you’re back. We don’t like this nanny," they complained as soon as I stepped in.

I made brief eye contact with her, wondering what she had done to upset them. Usually, my kids were understanding. They rarely complained about anything. They had lived with my family since birth and were taught to behave. So for them to be this worried and upset rubbed me the wrong way.

"Why? Oh, did you guys not enjoy being with Scarlett?" I asked, referring to the nanny, the blue-eyed woman with short, bobbed hair. The way she anxiously rubbed her palms told me she had upset my children, and she knew it too.

"She didn’t let us play anything. Whatever we did, she told us not to," Amy complained.

That was when my mother stepped forward, looking upset.

"So what? She’s your elder. You two must have been making a lot of ruckus. Now go, don’t bother us. I have something important to discuss with your mother."

My mother shooing them away upset me. I instantly wrapped my arms around my children and gave my mother a look.

"You will not speak to my children like that. As for you, Scarlett, next time when they’re playing, don’t intervene unless they’re putting their lives or someone else’s in danger. Children make noise. And if it’s too much for you, I’ll find another nanny," I hissed, my tone sharp so my kids would know it wasn’t normal for someone to control them like that, and that their mother had their back.

"You cannot fire her. I’ve trained her for this for years," my mother retorted, rolling her eyes as she handed her bag to the nanny, who was also going to be her assistant.

However, the minute my mother sat down, Scarlett walked away. We had three bedrooms on the ground floor and two on the top floor. Then there was the rooftop, which I doubted my kids would ever go to.

My mother had placed some guards and secret warriors around just to make sure nobody attacked us, but I was still concerned for my children’s safety.

"What else is there to talk about?" I asked my mother, patting my children’s backs so they could go ahead and play with their toys. They had their bedroom with me on the ground floor. The two rushed off to their room, and I sat down on the couch beside my mother, giving her a harsh look.

"Oh, I forgot to introduce you to someone," my mother said, her smirk widening as my eyebrows furrowed. "Luca, can you please come out?" she called, making me pout when he walked out of the kitchen.

A strange man in my kitchen while I wasn’t home– all the warning signs flared in my head. Out came a tall, six-foot-five young man. Not just any man. I recognized this asshole.

"You?" I shot up from the couch, glaring at him.

He was none other than my father’s right-hand man’s son — Luca. Luca, the known fuckboy of our Lycan community. He had green eyes and black hair.

Girls who dated him usually called him the devil in disguise. They said that only after dating him would someone realize he was handsome only on the outside. But what the fuck was he doing in my home?

"I meant to introduce him to you, but then I thought we’d have a first run-in with Kash," my mother explained, crossing one leg over the other and swinging it lightly, smirking proudly at her own actions.

"He’ll be playing the part of your boyfriend of four years in this game we’re playing," my mother continued, introducing Luca to me as my boyfriend. All I could do was gasp and ask through my shock, "What?"

"What’s so shocking about it? You need a storyline too. Kash needs to know there’s competition," my mother went on, making me start to shake my head.

This was getting ridiculous. Now I had a man to share a home with and not just any man, but the biggest player in our community. And I had no clue how Kash would respond to it, or why he would even fucking care.

"Say hello to each other," my mother added, continuing to speak and give me a headache.

Luca sat down on the lone sofa, stretching his neck and giving me a brief but nasty head-to-toe glance before saying, in his deep voice, "Hello, girlfriend."
