I had come outside to speak with Markus.

He was showing me the venues. Of course, he had chosen a beautiful cabin to carry out the surprise. There was a waterfall in front of it, and the entire area was lovely.

He had also suggested other options, like arranging something at a beautiful beach.

Honestly, the more effort he put in, the more I began to believe he was serious about making Zoe happy. That was the only reason I was supporting him. Otherwise, helping Markus had never been in my interest, nor did I ever want to.

"You know, once all this is done, I will definitely tell her it would not have been possible without you," Markus said, giving me a cheeky grin.

"There is no need," I replied. "I will handle that myself."

I reminded him that I had already been seen walking with him a few times, so I suspected some people might find it strange.

"Of course. Once everything is arranged and I take Zoe out in the car, then you can tell Kash and everyone what has been going on all these days," Markus explained, slipping the preparation files into his large coat.

He had been wearing that green trench coat often lately. The large pockets were perfect for hiding all the evidence of the surprise.

"If you are free, we can go shopping for it tomorrow," he suggested.

I nodded. I was actually free. I did not have much to do at home.

"I will take the children with me," I added but he gave me a cautious look.

"You know children are innocent. Things slip out of their mouths. And Lady Vivian keeps asking them questions," he pointed out.

He quickly dismissed the idea of involving the children for obvious reasons.

"Fine. I will leave the children with Zoe," I suggested, more like telling myself.

"Anyway, I should go inside. Kash and the children must be waiting for me," I added.

I had barely finished speaking when Kash stepped out of the house. He was fully dressed, as if he were heading somewhere.

It felt strange.

I quickly moved toward him.

"Are you going somewhere?" I asked.

He did not answer.

I was certain he had heard me.

"Kash, I just asked you something," I said again, trying to reach him.

But he walked past me, got into the car, slammed the door, and started the engine.

I felt awkward standing there. He had completely ignored me.

As soon as he drove away, I forced myself to relax, but I was not calm at all. His reaction had truly hurt me.

I had a feeling I knew why he was behaving like this. He wanted to torture Luca, and I had opposed the idea.

That was all it was and I showed it that way too.

Since Kash had already left, I felt uneasy. There was nothing else I could do, so I decided to stay inside the house.

When I walked in, I saw my children sitting in front of the television. Lara was standing beside their couch.

"This is their afternoon nap time. Do they not sleep?" Lara asked harshly.

Her reaction made my jaw tighten.

"Your bedroom is upstairs, right? You cannot even hear the sound from there. You should go upstairs," I replied, walking over to check the volume.

The volume was not even that high.

My children were sitting stiffly, as if they were afraid that one mistake would make her lash out at them.

I did not like the way she behaved with them. Watching my children live in fear had always bothered me, but now it was becoming unbearable.

Especially when they needed support more than ever, I was not comfortable with this at all.

"I think I will go rest," Lara suddenly said, her tone shifting.

I looked up and saw Lady Vivian stepping out of her room.

"What happened here? Is there a problem?" Lady Vivian asked, looking at Lara.

There was affection in her eyes when she looked at her. But when her gaze shifted to me, I saw anger on her face, the kind that came from deep resentment.

"Nothing. I just told the children to lower the volume. But Iris gets very angry if anyone disciplines her children," Lara replied, trying to sound miserable.

The hatred in her tone slipped through.

Lady Vivian looked at me, then at Lara. Then her eyes moved to my children, and I noticed her expression soften when my babies looked up at her with wide eyes.

"Lara, come on. The volume is not that high. Do not trouble them," Lady Vivian said firmly.

She had clearly taken my children’s side. Lara looked hurt, as if she had expected support.

"It is not about that. You know this is their mansion. One day they will have to manage everything. I do not want anyone stopping them," Lady Vivian added.

She made it clear that even if she hated me, she did not hate my children.

She gave them a smile and sat on a separate couch.

"Shall we watch a movie together?" she asked them.

They happily jumped onto the couch, their stiffness gone.

That small moment brought a faint smile to my face before my eyes shifted to Lara.

She was glaring at me, her jaw clenched. Even though her eyes were fixed on me, she looked completely zoned out.

After that, Lara did not say another word and walked away.

I stayed with my children. Zoe was taking a nap, and I could not trust leaving them alone.

Even though Lady Vivian had made it clear she would not let anything happen to them, I was still not certain.

Because Lady Vivian trusted Lara.

And that could be dangerous for my children.

I had to sit in that stressful environment and watch an entire movie with my children. I truly wanted to go to my room, but I could not leave them alone.

After a while, when the movie ended, I took my children to my room.

Just then, Lady Vivian said something that made my ears ring.

"Try to focus on your husband and your children. My son does not like disloyal mates," she remarked.

Her comment made me stop in my tracks.

I turned around and looked at her.

I noticed Lara had already come downstairs. She had heard the comment, and there was a smile on her face as she watched me feel disgraced.

"Then she must truly hate Lara,"

The moment I spoke, both Lady Vivian and Lara looked as if they had seen a ghost.

But by then, I had already walked toward my room.
