"Oh my god, look what tiny, pretty little hands you have," Lady Vivian remarked, holding Amy in her lap.

Zoe was showing Colin albums filled with pictures from his childhood, laughing and giggling with him.

I sat on a separate couch, feeling left out, but I did not want to be part of the conversation anyway.

I was only worried about my daughter and my children.

They were very innocent, so I knew they would not understand how manipulative and toxic these women could be.

For a moment they were simply happy to have a grandmother who seemed caring toward them, unlike my mother.

And then there was Zoe. She had planned everything.

She had baked cupcakes, and I guessed she already knew I would not want her to feed my children what she made.

So she took small bites from everything herself first.

My kids were honestly happy here, and it broke my heart.

It made me feel angry at my mother. Kash sat on the couch with them, interacting without a break.

It had been two hours, and I was beginning to feel tired just sitting here.

Then the server started bringing in snacks.

As the food was served in the living room, since the kids did not want to go to the dining room, I noticed Lady Vivian getting up to grab a plate.

She started filling it, and it did not seem like she was preparing it for herself or for the children.

Then she walked across the table and came to me, offering me the plate.

"It doesn’t seem right for you to sit here and not interact. We are all maturing adults here. If we have made any mistakes or have upset you, we apologize," she told me.

I could almost tell she was playing a game in front of her son.

When I saw the way Kash looked at his mother with a smile on his lips, I realized they were still very cunning.

I usually acted out of emotions, which made everyone see me as if I were the troublemaker.

"Thank you," I replied, accepting the plate and thanking her despite not wanting to.

To defeat these people, I had to be cunning. I had been making too many mistakes. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Then I thought I did not even need to care about it. Soon I would be gone.

But where would I go? Back to the lycan community, where my mother ruled? I was not sure.

I began to wonder when I would start looking for a safe place to go with my children.

Everyone started eating while my kids played with their toys, the new toys they had been spoiled with.

I noticed the way Zoe sat on the little carpet with Amy.

While Amy decorated the dollhouse, Zoe fed her with her hand.

She interacted the most with Amy.

And then there was Lady Vivian. She kept praising Colin.

I guessed that was the contrast my kids must notice between them and my mother.

My mother would never speak to them nicely unless she had a hidden agenda.

After the whole day had passed, and I felt like my ass was going to freeze at this point, it was finally time for Kash to decide the kids should leave.

Even when I requested nap time, the kids refused.

"Okay, say goodbye to your grandmother," Kash instructed Amy and Colin, who rushed to Lady Vivian and hugged her.

She giggled and laughed with them.

Then they turned to say goodbye to Zoe, who knelt in front of Amy again and tucked her hair behind her ear, watching her with an adoration that did not seem fake.

But it did not matter. Whoever caught Zoe’s eye became a very miserable thing, and I did not want my daughter to become one of them.

After they had said goodbye, we began to stroll out of the house.

"So did you like your grandma and your aunt?" Kash asked, making me roll my eyes.

I was tired of hearing about them at this point.

"Yeah, we love them. They are nice," Colin replied, jumping up and down, Amy agreeing with him.

"Well, great, then we will have more of these interactions, okay?" Kash remarked to them.

The two kids rushed toward Scarlett, who was now standing outside the guest house waiting for their arrival.

They immediately started telling her everything they had done today.

"Thank you for letting them spend time with my family," Kash remarked, his hands in his pants pockets.

"It’s not like I was asked for permission," I reminded him, thinking about how things had escalated to the point where he made that decision by himself.

"And rightfully so," he commented, making me roll my eyes. "You should have just come and asked me that you needed the cure, Iris. You did not have to stoop so low."

As soon as he said that, I turned to him and started chuckling, hinting that he was being a hypocrite.

"What? Did I say something funny?" he asked, clenching hard.

"Really? You think people who use someone for the gain of something are pathetic?" I questioned, folding my arms over my chest and shifting my weight onto one leg.

I could tell he was trying hard to comprehend where I was headed.

"You’re using Lara, aren’t you? I guess I learned all the good habits from you," I commented, giving him back after a whole day of letting him walk all over me.

I noticed the way he pulled his hands out of his pockets, which meant he was becoming defensive and was going to say something that would hurt me.

But I did not stay long enough to escalate the conversation. I was already heading toward the guest house.

Once I entered the guest house, I saw my mother sitting on the couch, staring at the TV.

There was not much happening with her. She seemed lost.

"Scarlett, where are the kids?" I asked as she stepped out of the kids’ room.

"They are changing. They were wishing to sleep early. They are really tired," she replied.

The dullness in Scarlett’s voice was enough to hint that something had happened.

"What’s going on?" I asked in a fearful tone, wondering if I had made another mistake that angered my mother.

"The cure doesn’t work," my mother replied in one sentence.

But that one sentence was able to sink my heart to the deepest part of my chest.
