"What is she talking about, Lara?" Kash asked Lara once his sister started complaining about their personal affairs.

I did not know that things had turned ugly between them, but then again, it was expected. These people just needed a reason to keep the fight going. If it was not with me, it would be with someone else.

And if there was nobody left, the mother and daughter would start fighting with each other. That was how these people worked.

And then there was Lara. She was not any less messy either. All in all, the combination of them being together was bound to cause arguments.

"I do not know what she is talking about. All I said was that she needed to pay attention to Markus instead of giving him money nonstop," Lara defended herself, and I remembered what this issue could be about.

Markus and his family were not very well off. Even when I was married to Kash, I remembered Zoe asking Kash to get Markus a car, new clothes, everything, even branded items for his family as well. And Kash would do it out of love for his sister. I did not know that it had been going on until now.

However, it was none of my business. Even before, I never intervened because Kash and Zoe had their own relationship. I believed that nobody should intervene in someone else’s relationship. They were two adults who knew what they were doing.

"It is none of your business what my sister requests from me," Kash told Lara, making it clear that he did not welcome her interruption.

I noticed Zoe’s shoulders stiffen as she gave Lara a side glance. It was all happening right in front of me, but Kash was too busy with the children to notice it.

Or maybe he did notice, but chose not to call them out on small things. It would have been odd if he did that too often. They were adult women who could deal with their own issues.

"Right, I did not mean to disrespect you or your sister’s bond," Lara replied. "I was just saying, do you know, Kash, how long Markus has been staying with his family? It has been weeks, and he does it quite often. Does it not ring any alarm bells that he does not work and that he does not take Zoe with him?" she questioned.

To be honest, I did not know what her intentions were, but her questions were not wrong. Markus was a scumbag. I knew him too. He had always been an awful man.

Back when I was married to Kash, he made my life miserable by trying to make me do chores, like insisting that I sit at his feet and clean his shoes. I never did any of that, but it had always been a point of contention between us.

"Lara, for the last time, eat your food," Kash told her.

This time, Kash was so stern with her that she had to look down and grab her fork. She looked angry. If looks could kill, she would have killed every single one of us in that dining hall.

After breakfast ended, Lara jumped to her feet to leave. I noticed Kash’s mother adjusting in her seat, which felt like a hint that she wanted to talk about something.

I was right when she looked at me. Since her daughter had complained about Lara, now his mother was going to complain about me.

"What am I hearing about the kids not being able to spend time with Zoe alone?" his mother questioned Kash.

"I am putting the kids in school. I told Zoe that, did I not, Zoe?" Kash replied, looking at his sister.

Zoe looked down, appearing guilty for involving their mother in this arrangement.

"Well, that is a good idea. How about Zoe being the one who drives them to school and brings them home?" Lady Vivian suggested.

It was as if Lady Vivian did not get the hint. One would think that if someone was uncomfortable with something, you should not keep pushing and getting rejected.

But it felt as if this family thrived on playing the victim, and his mother kept pressuring Kash until he said it clearly that he did not want his children around the two women. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"There will be no need for that. And I do think that Zoe should focus on Markus now," Kash remarked.

As soon as Kash said that, Zoe looked down, appearing upset. I could tell his mother was not happy either. The fact that Kash waited for Lara to leave before having this conversation felt mature. He seemed to realize that Lara had been trying to embarrass Zoe. Still, he agreed with her. So did I.

"I trust Markus," Zoe uttered softly, resting her arms on the table.

"That is a good thing, but you should not be blind in trust," Kash told her as he stood up. "We have to go to the office. We have a plan to work on, remember?"

Then Kash turned to me, adjusting his shirt.

"It is okay. You can go to work. I will take care of the children." Once again, Zoe lifted her head, insisting that she spend time with my children. I felt uneasy.

"That will be okay. I do not want them to give you a headache. I was thinking of taking them with me today. It would be good to show them around and help distract them from everything they have been through," I finally spoke up.

Why not? If Kash was going to make me stay here by force, I might as well act like a Luna Queen.

Zoe looked at me with clear hostility. But it was Kash’s mother’s words that brought me back to reality.

"Yes, the trauma that your family forced on them," Lady Vivian commented, not looking at me, speaking casually, with a sharp tone.

"Come on, get ready, Iris," Kash told me as he stepped out of the dining room. My kids ran after him.

I was about to leave when I heard a quiet comment his mother made to Zoe.

"Do not worry. Her attitude will sink like it had before. She knows that now there is competition. There is a rival, and it is not a regular shewolf. It is an Omega. It is an Alpha She-Wolf Luna Queen against an Omega Luna Queen," her mother scoffed after she finished, hinting that soon Kash would leave me because he had an Alpha Luna Queen.

Was I afraid of it? No. I no longer felt the need to be afraid of anything.

I stopped briefly and gave the two ladies a smile.

"I don’t think you two should be thinking about my relationship with Kash. I mean, five years ago, you kicked me out, yet here I am, standing in the house like a queen once again," I commented, smiling comfortably and confidently. I could tell it pissed off Zoe and her mother.

"That is because we haven’t asked Kash to kick you out yet. We haven’t done anything to remove you, so you better not intervene in what we do. Or else," his mother threatened openly.

I only blinked a few times to show her that I was listening.

"What would you do, huh? Harm my children? You try," I warned her.

However, I noticed how disgusted Zoe looked at the suggestion that they would harm my children.

"I would never harm those children, Iris. But yes, those children are the reason you are standing here in one piece. So be grateful that I love them and care for them," Zoe hissed, rising from her seat.

"You want me to believe that the woman who hated me with all her might, without any reason, the woman whose entire life revolved around torturing me and bullying me, that the same woman loves my children?" I asked, pointing at my chest.

I noticed that every time I questioned her love for my children, she looked shocked and hurt, as if they were her own children I was talking about.

"Is that what you’re putting in your children’s heads against me?" she asked, clenching her jaw.

Even though I was not, it gave me a hint that this was what would bother her.

"Well, I don’t know. You tell me. Should I? Should I tell them what you are capable of? What their perfectly sweet, innocent aunt has done to their mother?" I asked.

As soon as I said that, I saw fear flash across her face at the thought of being exposed in front of my children.

She gulped and turned to look at her mother, almost as if she were asking for help.

"There will be no need. Don’t drag the children into this war," she suggested.

"There is no war, and there will be none if you two stay away from me and my children," I replied.

I wanted them safe, and it was time for me to leave. I could argue with them all day, all day long, and it would change nothing.
