From Iris’s behavior to her mother’s suspicious actions, I was already picking up on a few things.

The two did not get along well, so why were they still acting like a mother-and-daughter duo? What did Iris’s mother have on her that made her comply?

I walked over to the children and gave them a smile. However, I noticed they looked slightly upset because they turned to their mother immediately instead of me.

"Mommy, are we going to have dinner too?" Amy interrupted. "Daddy is going to take the bad lady out for dinner, so who will we have dinner with?"

Her words made me glance at her, then look at Iris. I knelt slightly and gently touched her cheek.

"Of course I will have dinner with you. I did not mean to leave you out," I assured her.

She pouted and folded her arms across her chest.

"You don’t have to give them false hopes?" Iris snapped as I turned my attention back to her.

There was agitation in her body language, as if she wanted to get away from me.

"I’m not giving my children false hope. I’ll have an early dinner with you guys, and then I’ll take Lara out," I explained to her, but I noticed she was slightly uncomfortable.

In fact, she was trying hard to make it seem like she was okay.

With that, I already had too much to handle. First, I had to make sure I went out and got the water. But before that, I needed to find out what that water thing was. Who was she? Why was she speaking with me?

I spoke with the kids for a few minutes, but in the end, it was decided that Iris did not want me around them tonight.

"Actually, my mother will have dinner with us," she said, and I groaned. It was as if her mother had just texted her.

"Fine, then I’ll go deal with the other stuff," I mumbled, letting her know I was going on a mission.

She gave me a faint smile as I walked away.

Once I reached the mansion again, I could already tell that Lara was standing at one of the windows, staring outside. The minute she saw me pass, she quickly hid.

I kept moving forward and reached the living room. She was sitting on the couch, acting as if she were reading a magazine.

"Hey," I greeted her as I knelt down and kissed her on the cheek.

I noticed how she instantly put the magazine down and looked up at me, hopeful, because I usually never got intimate with her.

I sat down beside her and started to play with a strand of her hair. She kept staring at me as if she had seen a ghost.

"You look like you’re in a very good mood," she remarked, slowly slipping closer to me.

"Actually, I’m quite the opposite," I replied, giving her a cheeky grin before returning to an annoyed look.

She quickly turned to me, examining my face.

"Why? What happened?" she questioned.

"I need to be honest with you. I’m seriously done with Iris’s attitude. I don’t know what she thinks of herself," I grunted, speaking loudly enough for her to notice that I was clearly upset with her.

From the way her eyes widened, I could tell she was pleased. She was even glad to hear something like that.

"I noticed it this morning when we visited the blue river." she paused.

"Is it about her not paying attention to the project?" Lara questioned. Her attention was on me more than ever.

"Lara, I need to be honest with you," I said as I held her hand. I could tell she was shaking from the way I was acting, because I had never been so intimate or emotional with her.

"My son is sick. And every time he has an episode and I want to spend time with him, Iris ruins it," I grunted, looking away and slipping my hand out of hers. "If only my son were fine."

She quickly held my hand again, pulling it onto her lap.

"Then what? Would you have just cut ties with her?" she asked.

Honestly, I was frustrated by how little sense that made. Why would I? How could I cut contact with the mother of my child, especially when I still had feelings for her? Of course, she did not know that. How did she expect me to completely cut Iris off if my son were fine? Did she expect me to cut off my son too?

Still, her misunderstanding was going to help me.

"Lara, if my son were fine, I would have asked to spend time with him at my mansion without her presence. But now he asks for his mother, and I cannot say no," I explained.

As soon as I said that, Lara shifted quickly and slipped to the edge of the sofa, unable to hide her excitement.

"Then how about we help him?" she suggested, watching my face as I pretended I had no idea what she meant.

"What do you mean? I don’t get it," I said, pretending to be completely clueless.

She began to look even more excited.

"Kash, what if I tell you there’s a way to help him?" she asked, her eyes widening with excitement, while I continued to act completely lost.

"The blue river water. Kash, it will heal him. Trust me," she said, instantly holding both my hands. Her elbow rested on my thigh as she leaned too close to my face.

"I mean, I’ve heard about it, but your father said that’s not how it works," I replied, showing no enthusiasm.

"Well, he doesn’t know anything, okay? He won’t say anything because he doesn’t want anyone to go near the water. But trust me, I have a feeling it will work. Let’s just do it and then step away from her mess," Lara said, mentioning Iris.

I finally straightened my back against the couch.

"But how would we get the water, Lara?" I questioned her.

For the first time since she had been in charge of something related to me, she seemed fully invested.

"I’ve got a plan," she said, smiling widely.

And in my heart, I wanted to tell her no, that was my plan.
