When Kash left the room, I hurried into the bathroom to freshen up and go outside to take my kids back to my room.

If he was not going to do it, I would do it myself. But it did not change the fact that I was filled with anger at his audacity to leave me there without answering me.

However, the minute I stepped out of the bathroom, all set for the day, I saw my children in the room with Kash.

He gave me a sneaky glance before patting their backs, as if they had been playing with him, but now he wanted them to go do their separate activities so he could have a word with me.

I wandered closer to him, one eyebrow raised.

"I thought you were not bringing them back," I remarked, folding my arms over my chest.

"Well, that is because you always think negatively and jump to conclusions about me," he replied.

An awkward silence settled between us.

"Is it true?" he asked, a very taunting smirk on his face.

"Is what true?" I questioned, even though I knew what he was talking about.

"Did my family really?" he paused, and I began to nod my head.

"Then why did you not say so at that time?" he pressed harshly.

I knew that question would come.

"You always spoke well of them. You have no idea how much stress this puts on me," he continued. "Now you are making it seem like I am wrong for not listening to you, for not believing you. At the same time, you are the one who convinced me they were nice to you."

As he finished, I gulped and turned my face to the other side. I knew he was not wrong.

"I did not tell you all that for you to react or take my side. I just wanted to let you know because my children deserve safety. I am not like my mother, who would be so dense that she only thinks about herself instead of her children’s safety."

As I said those words, Kash tilted his head toward me.

"What did my brother say to you?" I questioned instantly, noticing how he locked his eyes with mine.

"What do you think he said?" he replied, folding his arms across his chest and leaning to the side.

"Well, it was your ear. He spoke in your ear, so tell me," I insisted, folding my arms across my chest and watching his face in silence.

He stared at me, tapping his foot against the ground. Then he turned away, and all the heat and stress building between us suddenly shifted.

"Okay, kids, remember I told you we are planning to enroll you in a school?" he announced, completely ignoring me as he started speaking to the children.

Of course, he knew I would not scold him or call him out while he was busy with them, because they wanted their father’s attention too.

"Are they going to bully us, Daddy?" Colin asked, making me step out from behind the couch to look at my children.

"No, why would they bully you?" I questioned, confusion clear on my face.

"You know, because Grandma used to do the same, and she told us everyone here would bully us because we are weird," Amy replied on behalf of Colin, holding his small hand and playing with his finger.

Kash snapped his head toward me, his eyes empty, almost as if reminding me that instead of being harsh about his family, I should remember what my family had done to them.

"You’re not weird. You’re the Alpha King’s children. If anyone says anything to you, you come straight to me and let me know, okay?" Kash told them, sitting on the bed and gently pinching their soft cheeks.

"But Daddy, when will we go to school?" Amy asked.

"In a week or so. We’ll get you all prepared until then, okay?" he replied, running his hand through her hair and fixing it.

"But until then, can we please play with Aunt Zoe? She’s so nice," Colin requested, looking at me and pouting.

I noticed that ever since my mother did what she did to the children, even Colin had been acting differently, but I did not blame him.

He was a child. He did not have to carry the responsibility of doing bigger things. He did not have to understand my issues with adults.

"No, kids. What have I told you about not asking your mother all those questions?" Kash questioned, making me rub my elbow anxiously.

"But why? Is she a bad person?" Amy questioned, still focusing on Zoe.

"No, of course not. It’s just that, how long is she supposed to play with you? She’s not a kid, you know. You kids should learn to play with each other and with your toys. Adults have other important things to do, right?" Kash explained.

He was the one carrying the responsibility of telling them not to play with his own sister. I could only imagine how he was feeling.

The way he quickly said she was not a bad person made me realize that I had lied so many times that he might not even trust me on this one, especially because they were always sweet in front of him.

"Now you will not be asking the same question. Remember what I told you about repeating the same things, right?" Kash told them, holding their hands and pulling them closer so they stood next to his knees while he sat on the bed.

"Yes, it is a bad thing, and it annoys people unless it is an important question that proves someone’s innocence or questions someone’s wrong decisions," Amy stated, probably repeating something Kash had taught them while I was showering.

"Good. Now let’s go. Let’s have breakfast." Kash then stood up, carrying both of them.

As he walked past me, he gave me a brief side glance because he knew our conversation was not over when he had left earlier.

When we stepped out, I saw Kash’s mother, sister, and Lara standing in the living room.

There was no open reaction and no pleasant conversation either. The atmosphere felt tense, and I wondered if it had something to do with me.

Maybe the three of them were planning something against me and my children. I would not put that past them.

"Mother, is everything okay?" Kash asked. His mother straightened her posture and placed a smile on her lips.

"Why don’t we sit down for breakfast first? I prepared the food myself. It will get cold," his mother said, making me roll my eyes.

I knew she was not that sweet or nice. Lady Vivian had never done anything for me. For her to suddenly cook breakfast, I knew exactly what she was doing. She was trying to make it seem to her son that she was kind, caring, and loved his children.

"Sure," Kash replied, stepping toward the dining room. I followed him.

There was a brief moment when Lara rushed past me to walk shoulder to shoulder with Kash. She almost tripped me while doing so.

Once we reached the dining room, Lara was about to take a seat when my children protested.

"I want to sit on Daddy’s right," Amy requested.

"Then where would I sit?" Colin added.

"You can sit on Daddy’s left," Kash replied, placing them on either side of him, which pushed Lara farther away from his seat.

Instead of taking that seat, she walked to the other side of the table so she sat directly across from Kash, dropping into the chair with a thud.

Zoe immediately sat beside Amy before I could object. I went ahead and sat with Colin, while Lady Vivian took the seat next to her daughter.

As the food was served, the only sounds were my children giggling. Every time they did something, Zoe reacted visibly, but not in a negative way. She smiled at them and focused on them, and I noticed it more than once.

Then there was Lara. She had barely touched her food. Her arms were folded across her chest, as if she were waiting for Kash to acknowledge her.

"Are you not going to explain anything to me, Kash? We got married, and you suddenly left. You did not even spend a minute with me," Lara finally spoke up.

Of course she would. Anyone would if they had just gotten married and their husband was suddenly with someone else he said he would never be with.

"Not here. Not in front of my children," Kash replied before he started feeding Amy and Colin.

It was painful, but I had to admit that my children were cared for and loved here more than they ever were among my people, or at least my mother and my brother. That realization hurt.

As if Lara had not already been shut down by Kash, Zoe spoke up, and what she said stunned me.

"If we are going to talk about you and your marriage, then we should also talk about how you do not want my brother to take care of my needs. And how you think I should not be using his money, as if he is not my brother too."

Zoe’s bitter tone made Kash snap his head up to glare at Lara.
