And just like that, Kash was gone. The mark on my hand had healed. That was confusing.

Usually, people have to transition to heal. And I did not even have my lycan, so, it was confusing when I woke up and found the mark gone.

Then I thought maybe it was not that big of a scratch, but I remembered the blood oozing out of that mark. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

A few days passed. I heard it had taken Kash a few days to reach the south, and his crowning had happened a few hours ago.

I sat anxiously in my room throughout the day. His mother was on call with him, watching him get crowned.

I got to see a few snippets of it because my children insisted on sitting with their grandmother to watch their father get crowned. Because of that, I also saw a little bit of it.

I will be honest, I was annoyed at first, but then I watched his face and saw how good he looked in that crown. I could not help but tear up just a little bit.

He was really good-looking. There was no lie in that.

But then suddenly Lara came into view. She was clinging to his arm, and I had to leave.

I took my kids to the room and gave them their books to draw in while I listened to Lady Vivian and Zoe speak to Kash through the call.

A knock on the door jolted me from my thoughts.

"Come in," I called, grabbing the magazine so I would not seem distracted.

My children looked up from their drawing books and stared at Walkin as he gently pushed the door open and stepped inside, holding a file.

"You forgot to sign these," he said, glancing around the room, smiling at the children, and then moving toward the bed.

I reached out and had just taken the file when a strange shooting pain spread from my head through the rest of my body.

"Are you okay?" he asked, frowning as he brought his eyebrows together and leaned closer to look at me.

"Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just— I’ve been feeling a little low," I uttered, opening the file while sitting on the bed.

"Do you mind if I sit down?" Walkin asked, pointing at the space in front of me.

"Yeah, sure. Have a seat," I replied.

He sat down, rubbing his hands together and looking around.

I kept one eye on the file while watching him from the corner of the other.

"So, Kash got crowned," he uttered, then rubbed his neck.

"I know. Congratulations to your boss, I mean the ultimate Alpha King," I uttered softly.

"Right. Do not lose trust in him, Iris. Trust me, he is a nice man," he replied.

I started to smile to myself.

"Of course you would say that. He is your boss," I replied in a light taunting tone, shuffling through the pages.

"No, I’m serious. Besides, he really, really loves you a lot."

When he said that, I lifted my head from the file, placed the file in my lap, and tilted my head to give him a judgmental look.

"That is why Lara is beside him today," I commented.

"I really don’t want to talk about it, Walkin. I have given him enough chances to explain himself to me. He always gave me a bunch of excuses, excuses that only made it clear that he is a cheater and an opportunist. That is all."

I finished speaking, then held my hand out and noticed how confused he looked.

"Pen?" I asked.

He smiled and slapped his forehead.

"Yeah, of course," he replied, pulling a pen out of his coat pocket and handing it to me.

"So I heard Markus wanted to take Zoe out of the mansion, and you convinced her that it was not a good idea," he said softly, shifting in his seat as soon as he brought up Zoe.

I lifted my head and watched him in silence.

If I remember correctly, there was a time when he was very close to Zoe.

That was around the time I got married to him.

It was also during the early years of Zoe’s marriage, and Walkin cared for her a lot until her husband decided their friendship was inappropriate.

I understand when people set healthy boundaries, but Markus himself is a very questionable man.

So I felt he might not even let her speak to anyone at all.

"I’m glad you did it. I don’t think she should be alone with Markus," Walkin finally commented.

I heard the scratch of the pen as I signed the file, then closed it and handed both the pen and the file to him.

"What makes you say that?" I asked, my hand resting on the mattress and my head still tilted.

"I don’t know. I just don’t feel like he loves her enough. You see, don’t get me wrong. Zoe does messy things, and I don’t know how things are between you and her now after she openly said she was upset with you for leaving her brother."

As he spoke, he paused briefly when I started to chuckle.

"Did you ever get to speak to the guards that day when I left?"

Me bringing up the past made him narrow his eyes in confusion.

"Um, no. He just handed me a phone and said that you left."

Walkin shifted on the bed, one leg bent and the other hanging down, resting on the floor.

"Why? What was he supposed to tell me?" Walkin asked, his eyes fixed on mine.

"Well, if you had asked him, and if he had been genuine, he would have told you that I did not leave that day. I was dragged out by Lady Vivian, Zoe, and Markus. They locked me out of the mansion after humiliating me. I was kicked out of my own mansion because they realized that Kash had tossed me aside."

The minute I said all that, I saw the look of shock on Walkin’s face.
