That night, when Kash returned, we barely spoke. There was too much tension between us, especially with the issue of Luca. I decided to give it a break for a day.

It was becoming overwhelming because of Lara, even though I had been the one who asked for her to stay.

By morning, I deliberately avoided Kash. I knew he was struggling too. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

He wanted intimacy. So did I. But there were matters we needed to resolve first.

"Can we speak?" Kash asked finally, gesturing for me to sit with him on the couch near the dining area.

I noticed his mother watching us closely whenever we spoke. The troubling part was that most of our conversations were now happening in front of them.

Whenever Luca was mentioned, others were listening.

"Sure," I replied, taking a seat.

My children were still asleep. The others were as well. Only Kash, his mother, and I were awake.

"I am going to ask the warriors to put pressure on Luca from now on," he began.

As he spoke, I saw Lady Vivian nod proudly, pleased that her son had made the decision without waiting for me.

"We need to inform his father first," I said, referring to James.

"I already spoke to him. He is disappointed in his son and believes this is the right step," Kash answered.

The moment he said that, I lifted my head and glared at him. His mother noticed immediately.

"You spoke to him without me?" I asked, pointing to myself.

"What is so surprising about that?" Lady Vivian cut in. "The Alpha King makes decisions. He does not have to wait for your approval."

She was quick to defend him and to remind me that I did not have the privilege to question an Alpha King.

"We had an understanding," I said firmly.

"That understanding ended when you chose to waste your time on different rendezvous instead of focusing on the mission at hand," Kash responded.

His words clearly pleased his mother.

It was painful to see how satisfied she looked while we argued. I hated every second of it.

She, however, enjoyed it completely.

"What makes you think I am wasting my time, Kash?" I snapped at him.

"I am filling out school forms for the children. I am doing all of this alone. Right now, it does not seem like you even remember that you were the one who decided we would handle everything together. And then you forgot about it," I continued.

The moment I reminded him about the children, I saw a harsh look cross his face.

"What are you trying to say, Iris?" Lady Vivian cut in. "He is the Alpha King. He loves his children more than you do. He has always put their safety first. You are the one who has dragged them into trouble."

Now that Kash was openly misbehaving with me, his mother did not hold back either. I looked at Kash quietly after she finished speaking.

"There is no need to argue about this," Kash responded to his mother.

But this time, he did not stop her from speaking against me.

"The point is, Luca will be tortured until he confesses," he added.

I scoffed at him, and that immediately caught his attention.

His mother handed him his spoon again, as if urging him to continue eating and not let me ruin his mood.

"So you mean you will force him to confess, whether he did it or not?" I challenged.

The moment I said that, Lady Vivian gasped loudly. Even Kash turned toward her.

"Enough. Why are you not silencing her? How can she speak to you like this?" she demanded.

It seemed as though she was more offended than Kash.

"Do not worry. Once the truth comes out, she will be quiet," Kash said, ignoring me and siding with his mother.

He adjusted his posture and took a deep breath.

I was growing increasingly emotional. Tears threatened to spill, but I refused to lose my confidence.

"Anyway, if you want, you can come to the office with me today. We have things to handle. There is a brand we have neglected for too long," Kash added in a harsh tone, as if he were doing me a favor.

His mother noticed the hostility in his voice and watched my reaction carefully.

I wanted to go with him. But then I decided not to.

"I have something important to do today. I cannot come. You can handle whatever needs to be done," As soon as I said that, Kash and his mother exchanged a look.

"Is it something related to the school?" Kash asked, holding his spoon tightly.

"No. It is personal," I replied.

They both stared at me with strange expressions.

I remembered that I was supposed to go shopping with Markus today. We had to buy gifts for Zoe. Of course, I could not tell them that.

Lara was already acting strangely, and if she found out that Markus had asked for my help instead of hers, her mood would worsen.

Kash kept looking at me, as if hoping I would change my mind and go with him.

When I did not, he lowered his spoon.

"You should eat. Why have you stopped?" his mother asked, noticing he had lost his appetite.

"It is nothing. I will go to the office early so I can return home sooner," he said, rising from his chair.

He leaned down and kissed his mother on the forehead.

As he walked past me, I waited for a gesture. But this time, he did not lean toward me, and I did not move either.

He left, and I remained seated beside his mother.

"What could be more important than my son?" she commented.

I continued eating, even though I knew her eyes were fixed on me. I hated when someone watched me eat.

She kept staring as if counting every bite.

"You are so stubborn. My son left hungry, and you are still eating," she added.

Her words stung. I could not understand how a woman could hold so much hatred toward someone.

When I still did not respond, Lady Vivian scoffed and left the table.

As soon as she walked away, I dropped my spoon into my bowl.

"Are you hurting?" my Lycan whispered.

"Very much," I replied in a broken tone.
