Kash adjusted his posture but did not step away from me.

He had one knee up, his forearm resting on it, and he looked at Lara with a bizarre expression.

She marched toward us, her heels scraping against the pavement.

Her dress was crooked, and her mask hung off one side of her face.

She tossed her hair back and stomped to a stop beside us. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"You just left me in there. You did not even look back," she snapped, tapping a finger against her chest as she complained to him.

Kash straightened his posture, but he did not get up right away to comfort her.

He slowly turned his head toward her, his jaw flexing once before he grunted.

"What if he had attacked me next?" she yelled, pointing at her chest.

I was furious. I remembered she was the one who had turned his attention toward me.

"But he didn’t. You were dancing with him," I snapped at last, still shaking badly, and her eyes widened as if she were in disbelief.

"Are you accusing me of something a man did?" she questioned, dramatically folding her arms and shifting her weight.

"Wait. You were dancing with this man? And he turned to attack Iris in front of you?" Kash picked up my words, questioning her.

She opened her mouth, looking between us like she did not understand where these accusations were coming from.

"Kash, I was helpless too," she uttered.

However, he raised his palm to silence her.

"If you suggest something like this, then you should be able to take care of the people who came with you," he replied in a low but sharp voice.

His hand moved away from my arm and curled into a fist at his side.

He reminded her she was the one who had asked me to come.

Lara threw her hands in the air.

"It is not my fault that a man attacked her, okay? How was I supposed to know he would do that?" she complained.

At this point, Kash got up from the stairs, stepping toward her.

His shoulders were so squared that I feared he might even start attacking the wind.

"If you had told him who you were, he would have backed down. You stood there watching it happen. You did nothing, Lara," he screamed, so loud her mouth opened but no words came out.

The arms she had folded over her chest began to shake.

He then shook his head and pointed toward the bar entrance.

"You suggested this place. This is your comfort place. I am so disappointed in you, truly," he hissed at her.

Her face changed color. Embarrassment and anger flushed through her cheeks.

She took a step back, hugging herself to keep her posture composed.

Kash did not look at her anymore. He turned to me again.

His hand brushed the side of my arm as he gently helped me up to balance me on my feet.

"We are going back home now," he said firmly, still keeping his glare on Lara until she lowered her eyes.

I nodded silently, still holding the half-empty bottle of water.

My heartbeat finally began to slow down. He took me to the car and sat me in the back seat with Luca, who had already passed out.

Lara jumped into the passenger seat while Kash took the driver’s seat.

So began the awkward ride back home.

As expected, the ride back to the mansion was quiet in a way that made me nervous because every small move from anyone caught the attention of everyone else in the car.

Luca moved around freely because he was passed out.

His head leaned against the window.

His breathing showed that he was much happier sleeping than he would have been if he were awake.

I sat beside him wondering if he would wake up and start to throw up on me.

Kash was driving as expected, with his eyes flickering nonstop to the rearview mirror to keep an eye on me.

Every few minutes he checked on me instead of the road.

He tried to make it casual, but it happened too often to seem casual.

Sometimes he even adjusted the mirror and then ran his hand through his hair as if he were checking himself, but his eyes and mine were staring right at each other.

Lara, on the other side, had her arms folded across her chest.

Once in a while she coughed. Her posture showed she was annoyed.

She kept sighing loudly and shifting in her seat, doing whatever she could to make sure Kash knew she was upset with him.

And once in a while she turned around or looked through the other mirror to glare at me.

When we reached the mansion, the guards hurried to open the gate for us.

Luca did not react at all. He was completely gone. Kash stepped out, and I noticed that Lara did not get out.

She waited, probably wanting him to open the door for her.

However, instead of opening her door, he stepped toward my side and opened mine.

Lara was clearly bothered. She turned her head to me and opened her mouth wide, almost as if silently asking what the fuck.

I slipped out of the back seat, still wearing Kash’s coat.

Lara got out, and by that time Kash and I had already reached Luca’s side of the car.

That was where Lara was standing too. But before we could open the door for Luca, she stepped in the way to block Kash’s path.

"Are you coming to my room?" she asked him.

Her voice carried authority. Her arms were folded over her chest, and her eyes shifted toward me for a brief moment.

Even though she tried to appear stern and confident, she looked insecure.

Even now, it was on Kash to respond. I guessed she wanted me to hear it.

However, I froze when Kash did not hesitate. He gave her a tired look and brought his eyebrows together.

"No. When have I ever shared a room with you, Lara?" he replied.

His voice was so firm that Lara’s face changed at once.

Her lips parted as if she were shocked he said it in front of me.

And I started to wonder if what he told me about having a drunken mistake that night was entirely true.
