"You retreated, leaving Hai Tao and Lu Ding behind." The family head got worried.

He glanced over at Master See.

Master See stood up, clasped his hands, and bowed, "The Hulu Tribe soldiers were upon us. My orders from the Concubine were to get young master Ye Sheng back to safety if it was too dangerous."

"Thank you, Master See." The family head bowed back, but he gave out a silent sigh.

Things might get messy if the Emperor wanted to punish Ye Sheng for retreating.

He could only pray that isn't so.

The family head's prayers were heard immediately as the servants announced the arrival of the chief eunuch.

"The chief eunuch requests a meeting." One of the servants came running and shouted.

"Invite him inside, quick. Get a pair of chopsticks and a bowl, hurry." The family head instructed the servants to welcome the chief eunuch for the meal.

They ran around like headless chickens and prepared everything.

Finally, when the chief eunuch arrived, the family head got up from his seat, bowed, and greeted him.

"What a pleasant surprise, Chief Eunuch. Come join us in our meal." He stretched out his hands at the table with plates of chicken, fish, and other delicacies.

"I know it's nothing compared to what you have in the imperial palace, but that's all we can afford."

The family head said apologetically and handed a tael of silver to the young eunuch standing beside the chief eunuch.

"Nah, sometimes getting back to simpler dishes brings back so much nostalgia for me. Before I was given the chance to serve the Emperor, life was tough then, and I've had worse meals than you could have ever imagined."

The chief eunuch said and glanced at the young eunuch beside him.

It made the eunuch startled for a moment, and he quickly took out a handkerchief and wiped the beads of sweat on the chief eunuch's forehead.

"I'm sure it is. Come, let's sit down and enjoy the meal." The family head said and clapped his hands together.

Servants quickly led the chief eunuch to his seat; some of the servants also brought more gifts and passed them over to the young eunuch.

Nodding his head, the chief eunuch was pleased.

But he didn't have time for these formalities.

"Captain Lu Ding would be summoned back to the capital soon." The chief eunuch said coldly. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

The family head and Ye Sheng's chopsticks froze in the air when they heard this.

"I know what you are worried about. The Emperor knows that Captain Ye Sheng had his difficulties and had to retreat." The chief eunuch said.

When the family head heard the chief eunuch, he processed it for a moment, and he gave out a huge sigh.

"I knew the Emperor was understanding to the difficulties of his subjects." The family head quickly turned towards the direction of the imperial palace and bowed.

"However..." The chief eunuch said and paused.

He glanced to the left and right.

The family head got the chief eunuch's cue and stood up, "We can talk in my study room."

With him, the chief eunuch and Ye Sheng walked into the family head's study room.

"It's safe here to talk." The family head said as he closed all the windows to the study room.

Servants had been instructed to stay far away and guard the surroundings.

The chief eunuch turned over to Ye Sheng and said, "I need you to say the following in the imperial court..."

Ye Sheng's face turned from perturbed to being scared with eyes opened wide at what the chief eunuch said.

After the chief eunuch was finished, Ye Sheng stammered, "But... I wasn't around to witness it..."

"You have no choice." The chief eunuch stared at Ye Sheng and said, "You know who I speak for, don't you."

Ye Sheng turned to his father, the family head, and the family head nodded at him.

They had no other choice; they either do what the Emperor asked of them or be punished for deserting the battlefield.

"Relax. If everything goes according to plan, you shall be General Ye Sheng very soon." The chief eunuch patted Ye Sheng's shoulder and said.

He bowed and bid farewell to the family and Ye Sheng soon after.

Lin Fan woke up to a sumptuous meal prepared by Ho Jie as usual.

"Take your time. It's been a while you've stayed here for more than a few days." Ho Jie chuckled as he watched Lin Fan slurping on the bowl of noodles Lin Fan had in his hand.

"Yes, but we've got to get this done quick. If not, the sect might be in big trouble soon." Lin Fan stopped and explained to Ho Jie.

Ho Jie nodded and poured a cup of tea for Lin Fan.

He looked out to the window and sighed.

Time had passed by so fast.

It was just like yesterday that Lin Fan had joined him in his wooden hut as a menial disciple.

But now he was already a core disciple for Zhang Yi Nian and saving the Qing Feng Sect from trouble.

"Visit An Xiang Village when you have time. My brother, Ho Fu, is now doing well, and he has some surprise for you." Ho Jie chuckled and passed the teacup to Lin Fan.

After his mission with Lin Fan to fight the Hulu Tribe soldiers, it solidified his idea of letting Lin Fan take over the Physique Peak when the time comes.

So, he did whatever he could to let Lin Fan get better at his cultivation.

"Thanks, master." Lin Fan opened the bag and thanked Zhang Yi Nian.
