Lin Fan and Zhang Xi arrived after traveling for a few days.

They went and sought the merchant who put up the mission immediately.

The merchant, Liao Wang, was living in the largest mansion in the town.

Lan Kou’s husband was much older than her, and she seemed eager to get out of the mansion.

After the horse carriage started moving, Lan Kou gave out a huge sigh.

Lin Fan wanted to ask her some questions, but Lan Kou started talking before he could do so.

She looked out of the small window in the horse carriage and said, "You know, my husband has a concubine outside."

The carriage turned silent as Lin Fan and Zhang Xi didn’t expect her to spout such information.

"I live in fear every day for my life, but my mother was critically ill, and I had to go back and see her.

"That slut had hired someone to get rid of me before, that’s why I had requested Qing Feng Sect’s help to protect me."

She took out a silk handkerchief and started wiping tears rolling off her eyes with it.

Lin Fan turned and glanced at Zhang Xi.

The door of the carriage opened, and the coachman led them out of it.

The coachman said as he showed Lin Fan the pits and damages caused by the fighting.

He then pointed to a path leading into the woods and said, "That’s where they followed the assassin."

Lin Fan glanced over to Zhang Xi and said, "Follow me. Let’s investigate what happened inside the woods."

"But what about them?" Zhang Xi asked as she was perturbed by Lin Fan’s request.

Who would look after Lan Kou and the coachman if they were gone?

"They will be fine," Lin Fan said, took her hand, and led her into the woods.
