Thorne read Harwick’s response. His expression didn’t change — Thorne’s expression rarely changed, and when it did, the change was informational rather than emotional. "The Sanctum is a lot of things right now. None of them reassuring." Thorne set the case down. "What are you asking for?"

"Shadow Pavilion resources. Discreet inquiry. Not through Guard channels — those are closed. Through Naida’s network. Someone at Greymere who can tell me what actually happened when Serian left his posting."

Thorne considered. The request was outside his formal authority — Shadow Pavilion operated under Naida’s command, not his. But the operational overlap between security and intelligence was broad enough to accommodate a discreet inquiry if the subject matter justified it.

"Serian’s posting was at Greymere. Eight kilometers from the Sanctum."

"Yes."
