Crystal screens in every Ring of the Imperial City, carrying information that people could use to make decisions about their own lives.

The Luminous Charter — the governance framework that Raven and her council had built through argument and practical necessity — had been adopted by four independent communities. Not imposed. Chosen. Copied from the documents that Seven Peaks distributed freely, adapted to local conditions, implemented by people who’d read the charter and decided it made more sense than what they’d been living under.

The world was reshaping itself around what Seven Peaks had built. Not by force. Not by conquest. By the simple, devastating logic of a system that worked in a world where everything else had failed.

She found them as she walked. Not deliberately — they were where they always were, doing what they always did, because the mountain didn’t stop functioning just because its leader needed to take a morning walk.

Shen Wuyan was in the archive room. She’d been there since before dawn — the elder kept hours that would have concerned Mira if Mira hadn’t learned that arguing with an eight-hundred-and-forty-seven-year-old woman about sleep schedules was a battle without victory conditions. Shen was cataloguing pre-Cataclysm texts from the splinter group’s collection, cross-referencing them with what little intelligence they’d gathered about the Sanctum’s sealed archives. She looked up when Raven passed the door. Dark hair, young face, ancient eyes. A small nod. The nod said: I’m here. I’m working. The knowledge is being preserved. She went back to her scrolls.

Craine was in his workshop. Raven heard him before she saw him — the particular sound of metal responding to creative essence, a harmonic hum that was different from Bjorn’s forge-work, the way a conversation is different from a speech. She glanced through the doorway. Jace was asleep. The flowers always looked smug when Jace slept past dawn. They considered it a personal achievement.

Thorne was at the gate. Had been at the gate since the watch changed. Would be at the gate until someone physically removed him, which nobody attempted anymore because Thorne at the gate was as fixed a feature of Seven Peaks as the mountain itself. Voidstrike hung at his hip. The dark blade’s nature — seeing what others missed — had made the security chief even more thorough than sixteen years of Imperial Guard service had already made him, which was saying something.

Naida was nowhere visible, which meant she was everywhere. The Shadow Pavilion’s master didn’t announce her presence. She distributed it — across agents, across surveillance networks, across the quiet architecture of awareness that kept the mountain safe without anyone noticing the keeping.

Mira was in the medical hall. Eighteen-hour days had become her baseline, and Raven had stopped trying to make her rest because Mira had pointed out, with the particular directness of a combat healer who’d been through too much to soften her delivery, that the Sect Leader had no standing to lecture anyone about overwork.

Lin Yue was in the garden, checking herb growth rates before the morning dew burned off. Marcus was in the command center, updating the display. "Of course he did."

"I’ll be there in ten minutes. Finishing this sequence."

Raven watched her for a moment. The precision of the forms. The economy of motion. The particular intensity of someone who’d learned, young, that being small meant you had to be faster and sharper and more determined than everyone who was bigger. Taron had been training her. The results showed.

She left Mei to her forms and went to the garden.

Aren’s ice affinity had left frost patterns on the stone bench beside them — geometric spirals that caught the formation light and glittered. He’d given up trying to control it. The patterns were pretty, and Elian liked tracing them with his fingers, and Freya had said that suppressing an affinity was like suppressing a sneeze: possible in theory, miserable in practice, and ultimately pointless because the sneeze always won.

The formation network glowed across the mountain — threads of silver and gold tracing pathways that connected everything Seven Peaks had built. Living architecture breathing. "Not yet," she whispered. "But soon."

Elian stirred against her side. Half-asleep, golden eyes opening to slits. Sylvara’s roots pulsed beneath them — a shift in the tree’s awareness, something registering at the edge of the fifty-kilometer sensor range.

"Mama?" His voice was small and warm. "Sylvara says something’s coming. Something big."

Raven pulled him closer. "I know, sweetheart."

Aren didn’t open his eyes. His ice affinity had spread fresh frost across Raven’s sleeve where his cheek pressed against her arm. His breathing was steady. Raven sat with her children under an ancient tree on a mountain she’d built, with a sword at her hip and a war on the horizon and twenty thousand people sleeping in a nation that existed because she refused to let the world break her.
