Di Youlin was lost in thought. He had long suspected there was more to this Little Fox than met the eye, but he never imagined it was a Nine-tailed Fox.

In the entire history of the Federation Star Domain, the number of Spirit Controllers with the Nine-tailed Fox Mutant Beast Gene could be counted on one hand. Each one had been a world-shaking figure. Of those still living, he knew of only one.

Yu Mingche never imagined that after accidentally revealing his true form, he would be seen by Di Youlin of all people.

In truth, he had been too careless. He’d clearly heard the spiral nebula only affected those under twenty-five. He never expected to benefit from it himself, strengthening his Nine-tailed Fox gene and causing him to inadvertently reveal his true form.

Seeing the astonishment growing in Di Youlin’s eyes, Yu Mingche was already standing before him. In his true Nine-tailed Fox form, he suddenly opened his mouth. A pink mist billowed from his lips, sending faint ripples through the air.

This was no ordinary mist. It was a spiritual mist, converted from the Nine-tailed Heavenly Fox’s own energy. It carried a strange, sweet fragrance as it drifted and swirled in the moonlight.

Caught off guard, Di Youlin was enveloped by the pink mist. His eyelashes fluttered, and his astonished gaze slowly turned vacant. His eyes reflected the scene he had just witnessed—a Nine-tailed Fox on a lakeside rock, absorbing the essence of the moon.

As the mist encroached, the reflected image was gradually shrouded until the pink haze completely obscured it.

After Yu Mingche’s true Nine-tailed Fox form had done this, his tails returned to their everyday state.

The Little Fox looked somewhat exhausted. Di Youlin’s Spiritual Power Level was simply too high; concealing his memory had consumed an immense amount of energy. By catching him off guard with his Talent Skill, Enchanting Demon Domain, Yu Mingche had managed to temporarily suppress Di Youlin’s memory. ’I’ll just have to hope this buys me some time,’ he thought.

"Little Fox, what are you doing here?" Di Youlin asked, shaking his groggy head.

He remembered trying to ask Ning Xuan for forgiveness for what had happened yesterday, but it must have been the wrong time, because he had only seemed to annoy her.

He had come out here to find a quiet spot and hadn’t expected to see the Little Fox here as well.

Seeing his expression, Yu Mingche knew the spell had worked. He let out a soft, "YIP..." sound, leaped off the rock, and scampered away.

"Hey, what are you running for? Ning Xuan has company; she doesn’t have time for you. Come here, let’s talk." For some reason, Di Youlin felt that the Little Fox was only here to get closer to Ning Xuan.

The Little Fox hid behind a nearby rock formation, watching Di Youlin lie down on the large stone where it had just been resting and begin to drink. The beverage was a fruit wine he had brewed himself; Ning Xuan occasionally enjoyed a little, so he’d made plenty.

The Little Fox—that is, Yu Mingche—watched Di Youlin with a complicated expression. ’Di Youlin’s family is even more distinguished than Yun Han’s, and his talent is more dazzling, too. He was once a favored son of heaven, covered in military glory. But then... it happened. His spiritual power spun out of control, his Half-beastman identity was exposed, and he instantly became a public menace.’

’I used to think there was no way out for that exceptionally talented young man but death. I never expected to find him at Ning Xuan’s side.’

’And I certainly never expected that after just a few years, the same arrogant boy who looked down on the world would now be willingly bowing at Ning Xuan’s feet.’

’She’s truly worthy of being the Contractor the Master Brain matched for me, taming even a difficult soul like him.’

Yu Mingche had completed his mission in the Star Sky Chaos Domain and now had an extended period of leave.

While on his mission, the affairs of the Star Sky Chaos Domain were so numerous that to fully dedicate himself to his administrative duties, he had put his personal information under the management of the AI.

When the Master Brain had first sent him the match notification, the AI had evaluated Ning Xuan’s personal profile. Adhering to its core principle of maximizing its host’s interests, it immediately chose to hide the notification.

Of course, after making its decision, the AI still forwarded the message to Yu Mingche’s personal inbox for him to review at his leisure.

’The Master Brain finding a Contractor, the AI hiding the notification... I knew about all of it,’ Yu Mingche reflected. ’It’s just that at the time, I didn’t see any issue with how the AI handled it. There was no way I was going to accept an ordinary eighteen-year-old girl who had just awakened her spiritual power.’

However, what happened next was something he could have never anticipated.

Within just a few short months, Ning Xuan had unbelievably advanced to B-level. And the very first thing she did upon her promotion was apply to terminate their contract. The AI immediately sent a request to the Master Brain, asking it to reject Ning Xuan’s application on the grounds that he was on active duty and his rights were therefore protected.

Sure enough, the Master Brain rejected Ning Xuan’s application.

Yu Mingche was astonished when he saw that message. He immediately used every means at his disposal to investigate Ning Xuan, but the results of his investigation were almost unbelievable.

’Ning Xuan had awakened a Legendary Level Companion Spirit.’ This was the conclusion he’d drawn from the investigation, a conclusion he later confirmed after making contact with her in secret.

’I might laugh at how submissive Di Youlin is around Ning Xuan,’ he mused, ’but when I think about it, transforming into my beast form to try and win my Contractor’s affection isn’t really any better.’

After confirming that Ning Xuan possessed a Divine Bloodline, Yu Mingche began to figure out how to make her accept him.

’Judging by her attempt to dissolve the contract, she’s clearly not satisfied with me as her Contractor.’

’It makes sense, when you think about it. I rejected her once. And with outstanding young men like Yun Han and Di Youlin by her side, why would she be interested in a stranger who’s more than a decade her senior?’

’No matter how confident I am in my looks, I’m still over ten years older than her. At my age, am I really supposed to rely on my appearance to win her favor?’

Yu Mingche was too proud for that. He studied all of Ning Xuan’s habits and finally came to one conclusion: she had a soft spot for small, fluffy animals. An idea instantly sparked in his mind.

He’d had a fortuitous encounter some years ago that granted him a unique ability: his Companion Spirit could survive for extended periods outside his body. While it was separated, he could attach his Divine Soul to it. This meant he could use his Exotic Beast Body to get close to Ning Xuan.

’If I can get her to grow attached to me while we’re together, make her accept me... then when we return to the Federation Star Domain, I’ll transform from the Little Fox back into a man. With my looks, once I reveal my identity, surely she won’t want to terminate the contract anymore, right?’

Yu Mingche put his plan into action and appeared at Ning Xuan’s side. Sure enough, she doted on him for a few days. Unfortunately, he quickly fell out of favor.

’There are too many people around Ning Xuan, all of them vying for her affection, using every trick in the book to entice her. On top of that, she’s obsessed with Cultivation and Alchemy; she simply doesn’t have much time to pay attention to a little fox.’

Yu Mingche glanced resentfully in the direction of Ning Xuan’s tent and sighed silently. ’Sigh, this is just too hard.’
