Dual Worlds: I Have a Doomsday World

After finishing his conversation with King Arthur, Lin Qi put his wristband away.

Walking out of the underground workshop, Lin Qi saw his dad, Doctor Lin, sitting on the first floor and smoking.

When Doctor Lin saw Lin Qi come upstairs, he put out his cigarette and asked, "Heading back to your company apartment?"

Lin Qi nodded. "My work location might change tomorrow, so I need to get a good rest tonight."

Doctor Lin stood up from the sofa. "Contact me if anything comes up. The situation with the major corporations might get very volatile. If it gets dangerous, the two of us can just pack up and run. Your old man still has a few connections, you know."

"Besides, Lin Xin is in Yu Chuan City now. The two of us could go to the Eastern Alliance and still do pretty well for ourselves. There’s no need to die for the company."

Lin Qi simply nodded again, and without another word, he waved his hand and walked out the door of the No. 1 Prosthetic Clinic.

He boarded a flying vehicle, engaged manual piloting mode, and set a course for the Liu’s Heavy Industries mid-level employee apartments in Red Fruit City—a place he hadn’t been back to in a long time.

Meanwhile, in the northeastern corner of Red Fruit City.

An octagonal building stood there.

Unlike a conventional skyscraper, this building had a massive footprint but stood less than sixty stories tall. Compared to the typical silhouette of buildings in the Cyber City, this Liu’s Heavy Industries headquarters looked rather short and stout.

This building design was not without its merits, however. If Liu’s Heavy Industries were to suffer an incident like the one that occurred in Greenfield City, Mercenaries would have a hard time pinpointing a target’s exact location quickly.

Even if you tried to crash a plane into it, you wouldn’t immediately know where to aim.

On the 46th floor, a seemingly ordinary conference room was now filled with Liu’s top executives.

Liu Xingyuan, the current helmsman and president of Liu’s Heavy Industries.

Liu Xinglu, the S-Class full-body Implanter who had once overseen Greenfield City and had returned to Red Fruit City with the evacuating Greenfield branch.

And Liu Xuan, Liu Xingyuan’s daughter, whose left eye was a pale blue prosthetic.

Liu Xuan stood behind Liu Xingyuan, not taking a seat.

Aside from the three people present in the room, there were fourteen empty seats, with electronic screens extending upward from the tabletops.

In addition to these seventeen chairs, there was one more empty seat placed beside Liu Xingyuan.

"We will now vote on the proposal for Liu Xuan to join the board of directors as an executive director. Those present will vote by a show of hands; those absent will vote via the company system. The proposal will pass if it receives more than two-thirds of the vote, meaning twelve votes."

The focus of this meeting was none other than Liu Xuan.

Before the true heir was revealed, Liu Xuan would first join the board of directors.

This was tantamount to showing that Liu Xuan’s status in the company was not as simple as the Si Clan had imagined.

To the outside world, this move all but placed Liu Xuan in the conspicuous position of the Liu Clan’s heir.

As soon as Liu Xingyuan finished speaking, he raised his hand first. Liu Xinglu immediately followed suit, also raising his hand.

The dozen or so electronic screens began to change, lighting up with a green glow one by one.

Each screen represented a current member of the Liu’s Heavy Industries board of directors.

After everyone had finished voting, Liu Xingyuan tallied the results.

"The vote on the proposal is complete. Fourteen votes in favor, three against, and... one abstention."

Liu Xingyuan’s gaze shifted to the empty seat, a hint of sorrow in his eyes, but the emotion vanished as quickly as it came, gone from the helmsman of Liu’s Heavy Industries’ eyes in the blink of an eye.

"Liu Xuan, take your seat."

Liu Xingyuan gestured to the seat that had once belonged to Liu Xingzhou.

On the expedition to Greenfield City, Liu Xingyuan’s own younger brother, the Tier Three Wizard Liu Xingzhou, had unfortunately fallen in the city.

Liu Xuan walked to the empty seat and took her place.

Shortly after taking her seat, Liu Xuan spoke. "I would like to present my first proposal as an executive director of Liu’s Heavy Industries."

"I wish for the company to escalate its response to the Greenfield City incident, upgrading our protocols to a Level Four contingency. We will begin retaliation against the Si Clan and assassinate their heir, Si Ranran."

As she said this, the blue light in her left eye flickered, and the power output of her Suppressor spiked.

Although Liu Xinglu, sitting across from Liu Xuan, didn’t have much flesh left on his head, the skin that remained still creased into a frown.

’Why does Liu Xuan harbor such a strong killing intent for Si Ranran?’

’To propose a plan like this right after becoming a director... she’s going to make a terrible first impression on the board.’

A chorus of dissenting voices rose from one electronic screen after another.

"This would escalate the risk of all-out corporate war! This proposal will drag Liu’s into that quagmire."

"I cannot approve this proposal. Though the Si-Liu strategic alliance is broken, the Si Clan in its current state isn’t worth us paying such a high price for revenge."

"Director Liu Xuan, I understand you went through a great deal in Greenfield City and are being overly emotional, but I expect every member of this board to learn to consider things from the perspective of the company’s interests."

Without a doubt, there was no way Liu Xuan’s proposal would pass the board.

Even Liu Xingyuan could not possibly agree to Liu Xuan’s insane plan.

But Liu Xingyuan’s expression remained unchanged. He knew that, given Liu Xuan’s usual methods, even if her "condition" flared up and her Suppressor had to activate, she would never make such an irrational decision.

’Liu Xuan must have another move to make.’

And indeed, after receiving the board’s feedback, Liu Xuan appeared to deliberate for a moment.

"I withdraw the proposal. However, I hope we can change the nature of the small-scale retaliatory actions the company is currently executing. As it stands, our actions are practically meaningless given the Si Clan’s current predicament."
