SONIA’S POV 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
I must have fainted twice. When I opened my eyes again, I was surrounded by nothing. The darkness was so thick it could dissolve the images of one’s imagination. It pressed against my skin like heavy black water, cold and endless. I couldn’t see my own hand even when I tried to lift it.
I don’t know why, but I projected my hand. Perhaps I hoped to touch something solid, something real. But I couldn’t even push my hand forward. My muscles felt weak and heavy, like they belonged to someone else.
I tugged, and that was when I realized I was bound. Rough ropes dug into my wrists, tight and unforgiving. My hands were twisted behind me, and bound so securely that the slightest movement sent sharp pain shooting up my arms. The fibers bit into my skin, rubbing it raw with every small shift.
I was alone in this extremely cold, dark, and stinky place, with no trace of the world. The air smelled of wet stone, mold, and something rotten that made my stomach turn. The cold seeped into my bones, making my teeth chatter softly. My bare skin prickled with goosebumps, and every breath felt like ice in my lungs.
My heart pounded hard against my chest when my situation finally dawned on me. This was my punishment. My punishment was confinement, for probably the rest of my life. The realization hit like a heavy stone dropped into still water, sending ripples of fear through every part of me.
I could take the insults and humiliation, but solitude was the worst kind of punishment you could give me. I had lived through it in my pack. If it wasn’t for Seth, and unbiasedly Freya, I would have demanded my father reconsider his stance on protecting me. The walls back home had felt like a cage, but at least there was light and the distant sound of life.
This was eternal damnation. It was worse than hell. The silence here was alive, pressing down on me until I could barely breathe. No voices, no footsteps, no wind. Just endless black nothing.
I could take anything, but absolutely refuse to take this. Panic rose in my throat like bile, hot and bitter.
Unable to hold my fear in anymore, I opened my mouth and began to scream. The sound tore out of me raw and desperate, echoing off invisible walls. I pushed every pain and misery into my screams, and I let them out. My throat burned with the effort, but I didn’t stop. The scream vibrated through my chest, making my bound arms ache even more.
As I screamed, I moved my body every way I could. I twisted and pulled against the ropes, ignoring how they cut deeper into my wrists. Warm blood trickled down my fingers, slick and sticky. I needed to project as much sound as possible. Someone needed to come to my aid. I didn’t care who it was, but I needed to be saved. The thought of staying here forever made my screams louder, more frantic.
I felt myself growing weaker and weaker, but I didn’t stop screaming. I would much rather be unconscious than consciously in chains. My voice grew hoarse, cracking with every breath. My lungs burned, and my head felt light and dizzy.
Soon, I could only manage a whistle. Tears poured down my face like an intense rain, hot against my cold cheeks. They tasted salty when they reached my lips.
"Please," I begged no one in particular, because there wasn’t anyone around. "Anything else but this." My voice was barely a whisper now, broken and small.
My body began to fail me. At this point I figured my wolf was gone. I couldn’t hear from her. No warmth, no growl, no presence. Just empty silence inside me. This was it. I was dying. That was the last thought as the dark hold of the void took me again. The blackness swallowed me whole, pulling me under like heavy water.
Imagine my surprise when I opened my eyes, and they actually opened. The darkness was still there, thick and suffocating, but I was awake. My body ached everywhere, especially my wrists where the ropes had cut deep.
I was still in that dark room. On impulse, I opened my mouth, ready to continue screaming.
A hand covered my mouth, causing me to jolt in shock. The palm was rough and calloused, pressing hard against my lips. It smelled of dirt and sweat.
"Who are you?" My voice came out muffled, because whoever it was blocked my mouth completely. Panic flared hot in my chest.
I tried to sniff them out, and that was when I noticed I couldn’t feel my wolf. She was either too weak, or I was really losing her. That would mean I was dying. The thought sent fresh terror racing through me.
"Please," I said into the hand. My words vibrated against the rough skin.
"The alpha Ramon has given you two options. Remain in the dungeon for the rest of your life, or agree to the punishment he would give you."
I wondered if this wasn’t punishment enough. The cold, the dark, the silence — it already felt like death. Anything that could be worse than this would be my cruel death. I’d even take that over having to live this way. The choice felt impossible, but staying here forever was worse.
The man pulled his hand away from my mouth, perhaps so I could make a choice. The air felt colder without it.
"I’ll take the punishment. Anything but this please," I said in a heartbeat. My voice cracked with desperation. It was a no brainer, really. Anything else than this travesty of endless nothing.
I thought that would be all. He would report back to Alpha Ramon, and I’ll be taken away from this awful place, with the awful stench. Hope flickered weakly in my chest.
But fresh pain coursed through my body when a stinging slap landed on my cheeks. The impact was sharp and burning, snapping my head to the side. Another followed, and then another. After about five consecutive slaps, it finally stopped. My face throbbed, hot and swollen, and tears poured freely from my eyes.
"I’ll tell the alpha about your choice."
I only heard bits of what he said. My hearing was almost gone. The only thing I could hear was the ringing in my ear. It sounded mocking. It was mocking. Mocking me for all the sins of my father that have brought me at the mercy of a bigger monster.
There was no redemption for someone who would do this. The thought made my chest tighten painfully.
What did I do to be treated so unkindly? The question echoed in my mind, over and over.
I begged for the escape of unconsciousness. So far, it wasn’t forthcoming. I had to deal with the soreness of my body all along. Every breath hurt. Every small movement sent fresh pain through my wrists and face.
My wolf was still silent. I was as good as dead in the eyes of the world. The emptiness inside me felt worse than the ropes.
However, it got even worse, as I felt extremely cold water on my body. It hit me like ice, soaking through my clothes and chilling me to the bone. I went from feeling heated to my bones, to being almost frozen to death. Shivers wracked my body, making my teeth chatter loudly.
"Untie her, and bring her along," I heard another unfamiliar voice say. The voice was thick and rough, like gravel.
The shackles came undone, but that wasn’t the start of freedom. It was unfortunately the beginning of another round of pain, as I felt something around my neck. Cold metal pressed against my skin, tight and unyielding. I couldn’t tell what it was until my body suddenly jerked forward.
I was being dragged away with whatever had been put around my neck. The chain pulled hard, digging into my throat with every step. It was the reason I could even walk, considering the immense pain on my legs. My scraped knees burned with every movement, and my slapped face throbbed in time with my heartbeat.
I stumbled forward like a slave, feeling like death was a better option than this. The ground felt uneven and cold under my feet, small stones digging into my soles.
Closing my eyes, I awaited death. I was tired of fighting. I couldn’t do it anymore. I had fought a hundred years worth of battles in just a few months. It wasn’t fair to me. No one could say I had done anything to deserve this.
I was suffering, and it was because of the sins of my father. The weight of that truth pressed down on me until I could barely stand.
Someone kicked me to the ground, and before I knew what was happening, climbed on my body. The impact knocked the air from my lungs. I felt my dress being lifted up. The fabric tore slightly as rough hands grabbed at it. I still couldn’t see, but I didn’t need my sight to tell me what was about to happen. Fear exploded through me like lightning.
"No!" I screamed. I didn’t know where that came from, but I had to do it in hopes of saving myself. My voice was hoarse and broken.
"What are you doing? That wasn’t part of the alpha’s instructions to us." Another voice cut in, sharp with warning.
"Who cares? She’s been condemned to a life of eternal misery. It’s better I have my fill first before she bites her tongue to death when the pain becomes too intense to bear."
I panicked, and began to vibrate with fear. My body was going to be violated again. The thought made bile rise in my throat. My legs kicked weakly, but the weight on top of me pinned me down.
"Please Ramon," I whispered. The name slipped out like a prayer, even though I knew he wouldn’t come.
"Soon, you’ll be begging me," the creepy voice snickered. The sound was low and disgusting, full of cruel hunger.
