RAMON’S POV
I couldn’t explain why I was this upset to the point of feeling my muscles ripple and my veins throb, but I was upset. Something about seeing Sonia happy didn’t sit well with me. And she had been a little too excited.
Singing, clapping, and throwing her head back in hearty laughter. Doing all of that while my pack wolves watched in excitement, elevated my annoyance. How could I make her feel the burn of isolation and biased hatred if my own wolves won’t even cooperate? I would have to have a word with them soon concerning what was expected of their behavior towards Sonia. Perhaps, they had forgotten so soon how they were told to act every time they were around her.
When I was satisfied with the distance I had covered due to my annoyance, I stopped, and turned around to see Sonia was still following, albeit, at a distance. I pulled my hand behind, and waited for her to get to where I was standing.
But before she arrived, I took the liberty to stare at her, using the scowl on my face as a costume to keep her from thinking she was interesting enough to stare at.
Despite being adorned in the worst of servant clothes, she still was by far the most beautiful woman that had set foot on blood moon in recent times. It wasn’t surprising that Lorena was so upset with her. She used to hold that title, and now, there was real competition.
Subconsciously, I began to draw comparisons. Where Lorena was a deeply sensual woman, Sonia had a much innocent elegance around her. She looked like she had no idea of life between a man and a woman. Blane had confirmed this after taking her at the podium.
It was really hard to believe what he said. After everything I heard about her, I expected an untamed seductress. Instead, I was tossed this innocent beauty, with doe eyes that could send a lesser man into servitude just to worship her.
But I was no ordinary man, therefore, her charms could never work on me. I don’t care that the moon goddess had played the cruelest of tricks and made her my fated mate. I would sooner tussle with fate myself, than succumb to that deal.
She finally arrived before me, and came to a halt.
’’Nice of you to finally join me. You had to take your time, didn’t you?’’ I asked, noticing she had lowered her gaze.
Good, I didn’t want to see those eyes of hers. They were such huge temptations. I knew I was strong enough to resist them, but it didn’t mean I shouldn’t be careful.
’’I’m sorry,’’ she said.
’’Don’t you get tired of apologizing?’’ I was already getting upset. She brought out the beast in me even without doing anything.
It was never fair to make the child pay for the sins of their parents. However, her father was notorious for doing just that. She was my revenge, and I planned to use her to the end.
’’can I ask you a question?’’ She surprised me by questioning.
I had no idea whatever gave her the impression that she had the right to ask any questions. But my curiosity got the better of me, and I urged her on with a head nudge. ’’Go ahead. And for your sake, don’t waste my time with this question of yours.’’
’’I’ve thought about it a lot. Searched my heart and my soul, just to find the tiniest moment where I must have offended someone, but I can’t even find one,’’ she paused briefly, and lifted her head. I was astounded by her bravery when my eyes caught her hands. They were shaking, which only told me she knew the question she was about to ask was bound to get me upset.
’’All my life, I’ve tried my possible best to live kindly. The world is already filled with so many monsters. Why add to the statistics right,’’ she chuckled humorlessly.
I was beginning to get an idea where this whole question thing was getting to. But like the patient alpha I could be, I waited for her to get to the point of this tragic narration.
’’So I did good things, In hopes that someone would be impacted by my goodness, or even catch a glimpse of it and be inspired to do good. After thinking long and hard, and coming up with no sins of my own, I traveled up to my brothers and father.’’
’’Are you going to ask your question now? Or is your plan to bore me to death?’’ Despite my initial intention not to get upset, I couldn’t help the irritation that sipped into my voice.
I watched her flinch a little, but just as swiftly, composed herself. ’’Are you punishing me because of my father? If yes, how is that fair?"
My anger couldn’t be contained due to the audacity of her question. Taking just one step forward, I wrapped my hand around her neck, and asserted a little pressure as I spoke through my teeth.
’’The nerve of you to question my methods as if you or anyone in your family have any moral grounds to stand on,’’ I felt her struggle, but it only made me increase the pressure on her neck.
’’Your father for decades has terrorized others. Your brothers are a menace to lots of packs. They’re branded in history as terrifying terrors, yet, you have the nerve to question me for taking a page out of their playbook?!’’ 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
’’You’re hu—rting me Ra-mon,’’ she stuttered.
’’Hurting you?’’ I scoffed. ’’I could kill you right now!’’ I growled, and pushed her away.
She fell to the ground and began to cough and cry. I didn’t care for the tears. Everything was her fault. It was such a stupid question to have asked, given the history of her family.
Somewhere deep in my heart, I knew the pressure I had applied around her neck was a little too much. From the corner of my eyes, I saw how she held onto the spot I choked, as she cried profusely.
However, I was too proud to admit I had taken things a little too far. If she hadn’t asked that stupid question, none of these would have happened. As far as I was concerned, she was just a spoiled princess with a low tolerance for pain. It wasn’t my fault her father only shielded her.
’’Your tears are getting me upset,’’ I said, way too deep to stop now.
She didn’t respond but only kept crying. Despite my stance, I began to worry that she may have been deeply hurt. There was no other reason she should be crying this much.
I fought the desire to walk up to her and see for myself if she was truly hurt. So much so, my limbs began to stiffen.
But no matter how hard I tried to drown her tears, the haunting sound pierced through my nonchalance, and made me want to reach out to her. But just before I could take a step towards her, I felt her rise to her feet.
I turned, and discovered she was wiping the tears on her face with the back of her hand. My eyes went to her neck, and I felt my wolf claw at my heart.
