SONIA’S POV
Ivy and I settled nicely into our new home. The house had five rooms and each was just as big as the main bedroom.
Alpha Ramon had ordered us to clean the entire house from top to bottom daily, and also do everything I could to resuscitate the dying garden beside the building.
I wasn’t by any stretch a farmer. The only thing I did was heal people. But this was his way of mocking and punishing me, and I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of seeing me suffer.
"Is this supposed to be a punishment?" Ivy sauntered into my room, whilst drying her hair.
It was obvious she just came out of the shower. A smile formed on my face as I stared at her.
In a few minutes, I would take a shower too. But for now, I was too comfortable on the bed to stand up.
After sleeping in the most uncomfortable of situations for weeks, I had finally found the comfort of a real bed again.
Ivy was right. If Ramon thought this was a great punishment, then he had my deepest sympathy.
"How’s the water?" I questioned.
"Warm. Great. So refreshing I could twirl all day long, and never stop," she said, and started to waltz around.
I laughed at her elegant display. Ivy was such free, and genuine entertainment. I couldn’t have asked for a better person by my side.
"I’ll take a shower in a few minutes. I just want my body to soak up the comfort of this bed first. It’s been so long," I sighed, throwing my head back, as my hands stroked my neck.
"I feel sorry for you actually. I’ve always been a maid, so I’m used to sleeping in uncomfortable situations. But you had to go from living like a princess to a pauper. It must have sucked really bad," she said, staring at me with a pitiful expression on her brown eyes.
"Yeah, my room was huge. The house in which we stayed was called the tower by the general wolves of our pack. Sometimes, I would hear curbs passing by point to the top where my room was hidden and say, "Look, that’s the princess room," I laughed, feeling a warmth creep into my chest. "It used to be really lonely, trust me. Growing up with a very protective father and seven strong brothers was no joke." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"You have seven brothers?" Ivy gasped.
Her reaction tickled me, and I couldn’t Help the cackle that left my throat. "I do. It’s difficult to believe, maybe, but I do."
"So how come they’ve not stormed into the pack and demanded your release?"
It was a really good question. I had pondered on it too, and came up with just one possible reason. "At least two or three amongst the seven would have wanted badly too. I’m certain Wolf really would. But my father is very diplomatic when it comes to handling certain cases. He wouldn’t storm into anyone’s territory without proper plans."
"But I hear your father doesn’t really like Ramon. I don’t know what the beef between them is all about."
"Neither do I. Anyway, it didn’t stop me from being collateral, right? In this world where women are offered as items for both peaceful and forceful negotiations. I, the princess of the Silverpaw pack, had fallen a victim too. Safe to say not even your class status can save you from the hands of a man."
She took an audible deep breath, and sat on the bed. "Can I ask you a question? It’s been bothering me but I didn’t want to come out as invasive."
"Please, ask away," I urged her with a wave of my hand, as curious lines marred the flesh of my forehead.
"What do you feel for Alpha Ramon?"
I wasn’t expecting that question. My body’s reaction proved it. First my heart almost jumped out of its chest, then my wolf leaped to the surface.
"My wolf is glued to him because he’s my fated mate. He has rejected me, but it won’t hold because we were meant to be together. I can never, no matter how hard I try, make my wolf see him for the horrible person he is. On some days, she sees him, and is disappointed, but the disappointment never lasts."
"I understand what you’re saying, Sonia. But I’m asking about you. What do you feel?"
"I get annoyed at the thought of his cruelty. I want to understand why he’s being so unnecessarily mean. I mean I know it has to do with my father, but I want to know why it’s being extended to me. Sometimes, I deeply hate him. The other times, I pity him. Really complicated feelings that I cannot properly communicate."
She sighed, and drew closer to me. Bringing my hand into hers, she smiled. "I’ll tell you something that may make you feel a little better. Whatever Ramon holds against you, it’s not because of you per say. It’s your father. I know you can’t see it, but he’s the sweetest alpha this pack has ever known. That’s how I know that whenever the anger he feels when he sees you because you’re an extension of your father passes, you’ll get the version of him you never got to see. I’m not telling you to endure until then. It’s not fair that women always have to sacrifice so much. All I’m saying is that as long as you are here, just be as positive as you can. One day, you’ll have the upper hand. You’ll make the best decision for you."
Her words had gotten me so emotional. Ivy had a way with words. She would have been a great orator if we were in the archaic days.
"Thank you Ivy. For everything you’ve done for me so far. For sticking by me, and making an enemy out of Lorena. I’m sorry for putting you in that position, but I’m grateful that I have someone like you in my corner."
She took her hand away from mine, as a friend enveloped her face. "Lorena will have her day. Some people get to a certain stage in life, and forget about their humble beginnings. Rest assured Sonia, Lorena will have her day."
"You talk like you know her beyond her status."
"That’s because I do. I’m the only one that knows her for what she truly is. Her guilt and fear makes her act the way she does towards me. But I’m not afraid of Lorena. You shouldn’t be either. She’s insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Don’t forget that."
Abruptly, she rose to her feet with a straightened back. I wondered if bringing up Lorena had upset her, or if it was something else.
"Go take your bath. I’ll just go dress up with the clothes Lorena made me bring from the servants quarters, and then go check the kitchen to see if there’s any food for us. It’s been a long day, and we’ve not eaten."
"Are you okay, ivy?" I quickly asked before she could leave.
"I told you, Sonia. That bitch is not important enough to upset me."
Before I could say any other thing, she walked away, leaving me wondering what the deal was between them.
