RAMON’S POV
Ramon wasn’t sure he liked the way things had unfolded. He had planned every bit of his victory that night, and it didn’t involve the siblings hugging it out.
Despite the fall of his plans, he couldn’t help the curious glint in his eyes as he stared at Sonia and her brothers.
Cade, who had been ready to raise hell just moments ago, suddenly became as gentle as a dove as he hugged his sister. The big man’s arms wrapped around her with surprising care, his broad shoulders relaxing for the first time since he entered the tent.
It was the most fascinating transformation Ramon had witnessed in a while.
The sight unsettled him more than it should have. Ramon’s gaze lingered.
Sonia disappeared completely against the large frame of her brother, her fingers clutching the back of his shirt as though grounding herself in something familiar after days of uncertainty.
A strange feeling twisted inside him. Not jealousy. Something uglier. Something possessive. His jaw tightened before he looked away.
One that made him forget about his plans to cause havoc for a moment. The firelight from outside flickered through the tent walls, casting warm orange glows across their faces. The air inside felt thicker now, heavy with emotions he hadn’t expected.
In the middle of the siblings hugging, the curtains pushed open and Daisy strode into the room. Her boots made firm sounds against the woven mats on the floor.
"Blane told me—" she paused on her tracks when Cade pulled away, and their eyes met.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, squeezing her nose in clear displeasure.
She had hoped Ferins himself would be the one to come. Not any of his sons. Especially not Cade.
"Alpha Daisy," he called in a mischievous tone, and even smiled.
"You two know each other?" Sonia asked with a pleased smile on her face.
"Unfortunately," Daisy didn’t let her words settle as she turned to Ramon. "I need to talk to you."
"No, I don’t want to talk to you." He turned her down at once.
"Huh?"
"You heard me. I don’t want to talk to you. Forget about it because I really do not want to talk to you."
"But—"
"I see you’re still so spoiled and entitled," Cade said.
She took a deep breath, then turned to face him. "Go to hell!" She said between her teeth, and walked out of the room with quick, angry steps.
Seth blinked. "What just happened?" He asked rhetorically.
Cade excused himself, and walked out of the room after her.
"It would seem your brother has history with Daisy," Ramon observed out loud.
"I wouldn’t know," Seth shrugged. "We all have our private lives."
"Wait, I don’t understand. You think Daisy and Ca—" Sonia couldn’t bring herself to complete those words because it was just too crazy to fathom.
"Yeah, I doubt they did. He could have died."
"So you believe the rumours?" Seth asked.
"No. But it is a pattern. That no one can deny."
"I don’t think it is a pattern. It’s probably just a coincidence," Sonia added.
Ramon looked at her. She had been dressed well enough to cover up the paleness of her skin. The maids had chosen a simple but elegant long dress in soft cream color that flowed gently down her body. The fabric was light and slightly sheer in places, hugging her small waist and falling softly over her hips. It had delicate embroidery along the neckline and sleeves, giving her a fragile, almost ethereal look. Even her sunken eyes looked plump now, with a touch of color on her cheeks. Whatever they had done to revive her had worked beautifully. She looked like a flower that had blossomed prettily under careful care, her auburn hair brushed until it shone and tied loosely at the back.
Ramon hated how beautiful she looked. Not because the dress didn’t suit her. It suited her too well. The soft cream fabric made her appear delicate in a way she truly wasn’t. Like something pure. Untouched.
A lie. He knew the fire beneath that softness now. Knew the sharp tongue she hid behind hesitant smiles.
Knew how stubborn she could become when pushed. And somehow...That only made looking at her worse.
"Let’s forget about Cade for now," Seth turned to Sonia, and held her hands in his.
"Are you okay?"
From the corner of her eyes, she found Ramon staring intensely at her. She was never going to throw him under the bus. Even if she wanted to, her wolf would not allow her.
But the way he was looking at her made it seem like she would betray him.
"I’m fine, Seth. Really. How’s father?" She gasped. "And my other brothers?"
"They’re all good."
"Even Wolf?"
Ramon shifted uncomfortably at the mention of that name. He was, well, not the most pleasant to talk about.
"Even Wolf," he lied. He couldn’t tell her that Wolf had almost pulled down the castle to go in search of her.
He couldn’t still understand how Cade was able to calm him. But that was Cade. He didn’t know how to control his own temper, but he was very good at controlling others.
"I’m glad everyone’s fine. I miss you all so much."
"Really?"
"No, not because I don’t like being here. I really do. I just, you know what I meant."
Ramon’s heart settled. She had handled that quite well. Much more than he thought she would.
In all honesty, he had expected her to start blabbing the second she saw her brothers. That was the character trait they said she possessed. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Once more, she had surprised him. Pleasantly well too.
"I do. I’ll tell father what you’ve told me now."
"No!" Ramon and Sonia said at the same time.
Seth looked between both of them. They were clearly hiding something. His silence was usually said to be unfriendly. But through that silence, he had been able to hone his perception skills.
What he could tell in his mind was that something was awfully wrong. It had to be bad if Sonia was willing to lie and pretend to him of all people.
However, he understood her. She couldn’t possibly tell him the truth with the man that may be hurting her in his presence.
"I understand. When you’re ready, you come to us. You’ll tell father yourself. But you do realise that if you don’t come soon, the war is going to continue?"
She turned to Ramon because she truly did not have an answer for that. He was the only one that could explain what he truly wanted.
"I don’t think that’s a discussion she needs to be present for. I’ll talk to you and your brother alone. We can reach a peaceful conclusion or fight with our fists. It makes no difference to me." He shrugged.
Seth nodded. They were clearly dealing with a man just as proud as their father. It was no wonder the war persisted.
"If that’s what you want. I’m in your pack, and you’re hosting the festival of alphas. It’s your decision to make. But remember Ramon, we’re not always going to be in your pack. Also, I’m not the only sibling Sonia has. The rest may not be as peaceful as I am."
There was a subtle threat in his voice that made Ramon do a double take. Sure the rest were loud with their exploits, but something told him this one wasn’t someone he wanted to anger.
Yet, he was known for doing whatever he liked. He couldn’t control it because it was second nature to him. He almost wanted to push. To see what it would take to bring the quiet one out of his shell.
"Ramon!"
The roar exploded through the tent like thunder. The wooden support poles trembled violently.
Outside, wolves howled in sudden agitation while hurried footsteps echoed across the festival grounds.
Sonia’s entire body stiffened.
