SONIA’S POV
I had acted like a fool, I thought, as I lay at the bank of the river closest to my house.
Ramon had left with Blane after giving me strict instructions to wait for him. But the second that door closed behind them, I knew I couldn’t remain in the room. The heat inside me had become unbearable, clawing at my skin and clouding my thoughts. I found my way out and didn’t stop until I arrived at the river.
The air smelled crisper here, fresh and clean. There wasn’t that poisonous stench that had filtered into my nose before I treated the waters. It was in this river that I had come back to my senses earlier.
Every time I thought of how I had practically thrown myself at Ramon, I closed my eyes and cringed. How could I have been so desperate? Why couldn’t I control my desires?
"Stupid full moon," I whispered, then slapped my hand over my mouth right after.
I had to do that before the moon goddess decided to do it for me.
It must be past midnight already. I guessed every pack had its own traditions. Back at Silverpaw, the place would be bubbling by now. There would be sounds of drums and howls to usher in the full moon. At night, after the prayers, a big party would be held. I was never allowed too close, but there was a window through which I watched all the activities.
It wasn’t the same here in Bloodmoon. At least, from what I had observed. Everywhere was quiet. A little too quiet. If I didn’t know better, I would swear they were mourning. Nothing felt like a celebration. Especially not how stupidly I had thrown myself at Ramon.
I felt so dirty. It almost made me want to—I froze at that thought. There wasn’t any need to just think about it when I could go ahead and do it.
The heat was getting unbearable. If I got into some kind of trouble, I could just blame it on the full moon.
I rose to my feet and began to shed off my clothes. I knew by the time I was done, whatever filthy lust I carried would be long expelled from my body.
It used to be difficult to shift. But ever since coming to Bloodmoon, it had gotten easier with every shift.
Closing my eyes, I waited for the usual pain.
It didn’t come. By the time I opened my eyes again, my wolf had taken over.
I broke into a run as the waves of the water serenaded me. The trees, the leaves, the sky, everything looked spectacular through the eyes of my wolf. I felt even more free than a bird. If I had wings, I would have loved to add flying to this run.
I must have gone round the forest more than ten times. On the last run, I felt my honey getting exhausted. A lot of energy had gone out of me, and I needed to take a break.
I continued as my wolf but slowed into a stroll. Walking through the forest, I realised I didn’t have any fear in me. The only fear I ever had was of that cursed land. And even then, I was beginning to get over it.
I basked in the joy of the silent night, knowing that by the time I arrived back at the river, I would immerse myself in it. After that, whatever crazy urge I had would be totally gone.
I was so deep into analysing everything that I didn’t see what was happening in front of me. My feet had almost stepped into a spot when a movement caught my attention.
I hastily diverted my gaze to where the movement had been more prominent.
In shock from what I saw, I shifted out of my wolf form.
What was ahead of me, I could only describe as pure passion.
Blane had Ivy pinned against the thick trunk of an ancient tree, her back arched as his powerful body moved against hers in a raw, desperate rhythm. Moonlight filtered through the leaves above, casting shifting silver patterns across their bare skin.
Ivy’s head was thrown back, her mouth open in silent cries of pleasure, fingers digging into Blane’s shoulders as he thrust deep and hard. Low, guttural growls mixed with her breathless moans filled the small clearing.
The air was filled with the scent of their arousal—unmistakably intimate. Their bodies glistened with sweat, muscles flexing and straining with every powerful movement.
Blane’s hand gripped her thigh, holding her leg wrapped high around his waist as he drove into her again and again, their connection fierce and unrestrained.
Everything instantly clicked in my head. All this time everyone thought Blane liked me. As it would turn out, he liked—My hand went to my mouth as the name almost slipped out of my tongue.
"Ivy!" I screamed in my head.
It was all so confusing. I had watched Ramon go out the second Blane called him. How could he then have, My thoughts were interrupted once more as the day began to brighten.
One more time, I had a daunting realisation. What I thought was just a good run turned out to be hours of vigorous exercise.
It suddenly felt like I was intruding into a private moment.
My eyes went back to their joined bodies and their howls of passion. An image of myself and Ramon in that position formed in my head.
I shuddered, and the movement caused my body to graze a tree. The leaves rattled, and the noise filtered into their ears.
They froze, and I knew I had to leave. Turning around, I tiptoed, making certain not to crush any dried leaves with my feet.
I made it out of their spot without making one sound.
Going ahead to the river, I proceeded to dip my body into it. Getting rid of every thought, I focused on just the coolness of the water on my body.
When I stepped out of the water, it was fully dawn.
I picked up my clothes and put them back on.
"Ivy and Blane?" I thought, a smile forming on my face.
I guess they couldn’t fight off the power of the full moon any longer.
Cheesing as if I had won an award, my legs skipped forward as I began the journey back home.
Who cared if I had my own personal problems to ponder on? My friend had someone who cared about her by her side. That was all that mattered.
I arrived at my house and was about to walk in when someone pulled my hair from behind.
"I’ve had enough of your intrusion in our lives, you stupid bitch! I need you to die!"
Lorena’s hands clamped around my neck, and she began to twist it.
I fought and struggled to move out of her hold, but she was a whole lot stronger than me.
"Pl–eass," I tried to beg, but the words came out more in my mind than I was able to speak.
"Die you fool!" She pressed even harder, and the fight in me disappeared.
I began to disassociate in hopes the pain would subside.
But she didn’t stop. The pressure from her only increased.
Watching my soul leave my body, a tear rolled down my face.
There wasn’t any pain in the last few seconds as I took my last breath.
