RAMON’S POV
I knew Jenner followed me, but I didn’t stop until I entered my office. The heavy wooden door creaked behind me as I stepped inside. I dropped into my chair, the leather groaning under my weight, and rubbed my temples. The night’s chaos still burned fresh in my mind.
Before the door closed, she pushed past me and entered the office. Her footsteps were sharp on the wooden floor. "Why are you ruining everything!" She slammed a fist on the table, in a fit of rage. The impact rattled the ink pots and sent a stack of papers fluttering slightly. Her face was flushed, eyes blazing with years of held-back frustration.
"What are you talking about?" I asked calmly, taking a seat and leaning back. The chair creaked again as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"What am I talking about?" She snorted and palmed her forehead. "You know exactly what I’m talking about. You’re giving capital punishment because you like to punish the girl. Forgetting that your own sister is involved!" Her voice rose, echoing off the walls.
"Capital punishment would be chopping off her head. And you leave Ivy out of this. She laid her bed. She alone made the choice to defend Sonia." My tone stayed even, but the words felt heavy on my tongue. I tried to keep my breathing steady.
"You know I’m sick and tired of pretending, and turning a blind eye to the shit you do. For what, Ramon? Revenge? You’re turning a sweetheart into a beast every time you treat her unfairly. Tonight, that girl wasn’t at fault. She was shushed, despite how much of a help she’s been to your pack!" She dropped her hands on the table and leaned forward, so I could feel her heaving breath. Her eyes searched mine, filled with disappointment that cut deeper than any blade. The warmth of her anger brushed against my skin.
"Are you spying on me? Shouldn’t you be doing what elders do? Enjoy their time not serving the pack?" I rolled my eyes and moved to open a drawer.
Her hand swiftly grabbed mine and tossed it to the side. The touch was firm, unyielding. "Don’t you dare be condescending with me. Elders never stop serving their pack. Example is tonight. We organised an event like we always do. But you want to know what you did? You fucked it up!" She growled, her voice low and dangerous. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, the fabric of her robe shifting with each breath.
"Lower your voice, Jenner!" I banged the table and abruptly rose to my feet. The sound cracked through the office like thunder. Papers shifted on the desk from the force.
She jerked back but threw me a lingering glare. Her chest rose and fell rapidly. "I will respect you more when you remember who you are and stop acting like a whimsical kid ruled by the sole desire for revenge."
"I don’t care what you think of me. And yes, you will respect me. Because despite how you feel about my actions, I am still your alpha. If you don’t like my decisions, then bloody leave!" I pointed at the door, my arm steady despite the storm inside my chest.
"Out of your office, or out of your pack?" She questioned rhetorically as she walked out of the room and smashed the door shut. The bang reverberated through the walls, leaving a ringing silence in its wake. The echo lingered in my ears like a accusation.
I dropped to my seat and folded my fist tightly. My claws were threatening to come out, sharp points pressing against my palm, but I knew I had to keep the rage at bay. The room felt smaller now, the moonlight colder on my skin. What was I supposed to have done differently? Should I have taken Sonia’s side against my own pack members? So what if she had been right? I couldn’t just discard the feelings of my wolves. Their pain ran deep, rooted in years of loss and blood.
"Or it was just something else you’re not admitting." If my wolf had a voice, it would be the one that just spoke in my head. The thought lingered, unwelcome and persistent. My jaw tightened as I gripped the edge of the desk, trying to ground myself.
But what was I supposed to be justifying? I couldn’t understand that.
"The fact you were jealous, watching a serving boy make Sonia laugh," the voice continued. It pushed at the edges of my mind, refusing to be ignored. Images flashed unbidden—Sonia’s laugh, soft and genuine, the way her eyes lit up for a moment before the night turned sour.
I paused and burst into laughter. What was that supposed to mean? Me, jealous because Sonia talked to a serving boy? Or because he made her laugh? That was absolute bullshit! The sound of my own laughter echoed strangely in the empty office, hollow and forced.
"You don’t know what you’re talking about," I responded to the voice out loud and chuckled. It was just too ridiculous an accusation. Best not to take it seriously. I leaned back, staring at the ceiling beams, willing the thoughts away.
However, the strange voice did not relent. It insisted on arguing its point despite my refusal to compromise. The image of Sonia laughing with that boy kept flashing back, sharp and unwelcome.
I was still deep in my head when the door opened. Looking up, I saw Lorena walk in and continued walking. She didn’t stop until she got to me. Dragging my table behind her with surprising strength, she sat with both legs spread apart on my laps. The wood scraped loudly against the floor.
"You were so hot tonight," she said, already unbuttoning my shirt. Her fingers worked quickly, brushing against my chest. "I haven’t seen you look that hot whilst dishing out verdicts in a while." Her scent wrapped around me, familiar and heavy.
She opened my shirt and almost ripped it apart, trying to get it off. The fabric pulled taut against my shoulders before giving way.
"What are you doing, Lorena?" I asked, recovering from the shock of her boldness. My hands hovered uncertainly at my sides.
"It’s the full moon. It’s coming right? I can feel the heatwave. My wolf yearns for you. She wants you to make her soar," she leaned forward and whispered in my ears. Her breath was warm against my skin, her tongue licking teasingly right after. Right, she was bringing the big guns out. Trying her possible best to get whatever she set out to get.
"Now’s not a good time," my brain snapped past the rush of desire. "I don’t think we should—"
"Shhhh," she placed a silencing finger on my lips. "You deserve to feel good, alpha. You’ve been so hot tonight. Surely, there should be a reward for that."
"But—"
"You don’t even have to do anything," she continued, talking over me. "Just allow me to take the lead."
She began to grind on my body. I could feel my hardness growing against her. The friction sent unwanted sparks through me, but my mind kept drifting elsewhere.
I had to resist her, but she was very much determined to take it. Her hands roamed freely, nails grazing my skin lightly.
She bent to kiss my neck, when she lifted her head again, I almost jumped up. The face I saw was Sonia’s. I knew it was Lorena on my lap, but my brain was playing tricks on me again. Sonia was looking me in the eyes. It was as if she was staring into my soul.
"What are you looking at, my lord? Why won’t you let me please you?" That was Lorena’s voice. She was the one speaking, but all I could see was Sonia.
"Get out of my head!" I screamed at her in my mind. The image wouldn’t fade, lingering like smoke after a fire.
She was becoming a pest. An infiltrating pest that had found its way into my thoughts.
"Don’t you want me anymore, Alpha? Do I not please you as much as you’d like?" Her tongue licked from my lower lip up to my nose, warm and insistent.
"You’re so handsome, my dear alpha. So much so, you make me want to—" her wolf purred as her lips attacked mine. The kiss was hungry, demanding, but it felt wrong, hollow.
"Stop it, Lorena."
"You rejected me before. If you do it again, you’ll have to answer some questions." She stopped, and I could tell she was offended as she stared at me. Her eyes narrowed, searching my face.
"It’s not you," I tried to explain. My voice came out rough, strained.
"Then it’s what?" She asked in a breathless voice, as if fighting pain. Her hands stilled on my chest.
"It’s just like you said. The full moon. I’m seeing things. I’m seeing Sonia."
As if my skin was polyester, she jumped off my legs. The sudden movement sent the chair scraping back.
"What?!" Her scream almost brought down the roof of my office. The sound rang sharp and piercing in the enclosed space.
