SONIA’S POV
I was lost with no hopes of being found. Sliding down the walls, I plopped to the ground, contemplating actually ending my life.
First it was being stripped naked, and forcefully penetrated in front of my family, and other soldiers by my supposed mates command. No, scratch that. First I was kidnapped after being lured out by the betrayer I considered a friend. Then I was sold to the kidnapper who kidnapped me; who also magically turned out to be my mate. As if that was not enough, the mate who rejected me, by the way, forced me on his beta in front of my entire family.
Oh, he didn’t stop there. He made me try to paint a room with a toothbrush, and allowed his mistress to humiliate me in front of everyone. And just when I thought surely, things couldn’t get any worse than they already were, he almost had me sleep with his beta for the second time, and then made love to his mistress in front of me.
I knew I had not added everything he made me do, or go through in the short span of knowing him, because it was just too much to remember.
It made me scared of what a whole month being locked up would do to me. At what point, would I stop surviving? I would definitely become a shadow of myself.
I palmed my forehead over and over again, as I questioned how I managed to end up in this situation. Lifting my head, I tried to see if I could catch a trail, or at least a familiar scent that would enable me to leave the four walls of this corridor that smelled a little too much like Alpha Ramon.
Unfortunately for me, it was just one long almost dark corridor that led to a thousand rooms, and little to no routes.
"Where are you, Ivy?" I whispered in my mind.
It was a futile attempt to get her to hear me. I had only ever heard about certain Alpha’s who could communicate through their minds. It came with a condition though. They had to have a link with whoever they were communicating with through their minds.
Still, it was the only thing I could do. The more time I spent with my back against these bleak walls, the more it felt like a fog was creeping into my throat. Clogging my airways, making it hard to breathe.
When the foolishness of my attempt became clear, I shut my eyes and began to hum. I never found out where I heard this sound from. It was just a tune that came out of my mouth one day, and remained stuck in my head.
My father hated to hear it around him. He hated music in general, but had a special aversion to this particular sound. He would always say it grated his ears. He never told me why, and I didn’t bother to ask.
I would hum the tone in secret every time I felt distressed, or just slightly out of it. Like now.
It helped me cope with the idea of remaining in this place, until someone passed by or at least, until I got help. But even if I managed to escape, I would probably not be able to find my way back to that harsh cellar. I could also just find the river. I love water, so I wouldn’t mind lying by its bank.
I continued humming, finding relaxing comfort in the tune. With my eyes closed, I imagined an entirely different life. My masked alpha, coming to save me from my troubles. Every time I tried to shift the mask so I could see his face, he would slip behind, and tickle me.
In the middle of my hum, I began to chuckle. Chuckle that led into laughter. It felt real, like he was beside me, tickling me. Making me laugh so hard, my sides hurt.
I didn’t hear any footsteps, but felt someone kneel before me. I opened my eyes, and discovered an old woman with white flowing hair, staring at me.
I flinched, and shook my head, in hopes it was just my imagination, and there really wasn’t a weird looking woman staring at me.
"You sent for help," she said, as if reading my thoughts.
"Yeah, from Ivy, not you," I had already said before I caught myself. I felt even crazier for talking to someone that could very well be just a fragment of my imagination. But why would I even call on someone like her? Imagination or not?
I wasn’t discriminating against her age, or anything like that. She just looked creepy with the pale skin, sunken eyes, and white hair.
"Don’t you recognize me?" she asked in a strange frail voice.
"No, I don’t. I’m sorry." I said.
"That’s okay. I didn’t expect you to. I’m from your future, Sonia. This is what you’re going to look like soon."
I stared at her like she had lost her mind. I wasn’t vain or anything like that, but there was absolutely no way that was my future.
"I’m sorry for saying this. I mean, I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you can’t be future me when you look so sickly and unkempt. Why won’t I take care of myself in my old age? It doesn’t make any sense, considering how much I take care of myself even now that I am young."
She smiled, and I counted at least two teeth, hanging loose. It made me flinch back again. I suddenly felt like digging a hole through the wall with my back, so I could disappear through it. That was how much the old wrinkly lady scared me.
"I see you’re scared, good. You should be. You should be very scared. This is your future if you don’t find the strength you require to navigate your time in this hellhole. Find a way to survive and stop wallowing in self-pity. If you don’t do that, you are in trouble."
"But—" I was trying to say when in a blink, she was gone.
By the time I blinked again, ivy was standing in front of me. I almost jumped out of my skin with fear.
"Sonia? Are you okay?" she crouched, replacing the position the wrinkly woman had taken.
"Ivy? Is that really you?" I asked, totally confused. I wasn’t entirely sure what was real or fake anymore..
"It’s me. Why were you talking to yourself?" she asked, staring at me with strange intense eyes.
"How did you know I was here?" I asked, answering her question with a question of my own.
"You called me. It’s strange, but I heard your voice in my head. How did you do that?" She asked, leaning closer to me as if the answer was written on my forehead.
I was confused as to how that had worked. For all I knew, that power was strictly reserved for certain alphas. I wasn’t an alpha. Not even by any stretch of the imagination, so how did that manage to work? 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"I don’t know, but I’m glad you’re here, regardless. I was in desperate need of your help."
"Why is that?" she asked.
"I’m lost," I said.
She chuckled, and rose to her feet. "Come with me, my Luna," she said, stretching her hand out to me.
My eyes widened as I rose to my feet. "Don’t call me that. Didn’t you say there are ears everywhere?"
She only laughed, and continued walking. Silently, I followed behind her. But still in the back of mind was the old woman and what she had said to me.
