SONIA’S POV
We arrived at the farm, and that was when the impracticality of the situation began to dawn on me. It was quite a big portion that needed to be filled with flowering plants. I couldn’t see us completing this task in a week, and we had been given just a day.
I turned to Ivy, and found her staring at two burly men. Their eyes looked dark, and their face, brooding.
"Who are they?" I questioned her.
"They’re going to be watching us. Courtesy of Lorena. Look," she continued in a serious voice. "I know this is not an ideal situation to be in, but Lorena is just looking for a reason to get you punished. We can’t give it to her, okay?"
"I know what she’s trying to do. Because you’re close to me, you’re collateral. I’m sorry for putting you in this rough situation. If you never talk to me again, I will understand."
She stared at me like I had lost my mind. I was very much sane, I just didn’t want to see her get in trouble because she tried to help me.
"I’m not going to leave you alone, are you insane? You’ve seen just how crazy things can get. I promise, this is just the tip of the iceberg. If I leave you by yourself, you won’t survive it."
"I don’t just want you to be sidelined because of me. My conscience would not be able to handle it," I said, tears welling in my eyes.
I could do without crying, but things had gotten so overwhelming, and now there was another person involved. Another person who, in such a short time, already cared about me so much.
"Don’t cry, Sonia. My conscience wouldn’t let me be either, if I don’t help you. Let’s just say we were meant to help each other, and leave it at that."
"Hey you two. Get working and stop chatting," the burlier of the two called.
"Don’t listen to them. Let’s just do the best we can do. I know you’re hungry, but just follow my lead, and we will be done in no time."
It was my turn to stare at her like she had absolutely lost her mind, which she would have if she thought there was some sort of shortcut that would have us finish all of this today. Like I said, my best bet was a week.
"You don’t believe we can finish this up today, do you?" she tilted an amused brow.
"I’m certain you have your techniques, but I fail to see how possible that is. Well, except there’s something I’m missing."
She smiled, and nudged her head, which I interpreted as me watching, and following her lead.
"There’s this old technique the elders used to use. Flowers were seen as a gift from the moon goddess, so every time one blossomed, they went into a celebratory mood. This goes without saying, but they thought the flowers just came about. Until one woman, one brave, very curious woman, discovered a hack." She paused, turned to me, and smiled.
"Are you ready?" she asked.
I laughed as I nodded. Deep down, I had a feeling that the story was made up. But anything that would get me out of this farm in no time, I was up for it.
She drew closer to me. Handing me one bag of the flowering seeds, she gestured for me to follow her movement.
"Good thing about flower gold dust is that it doesn’t necessarily need a technique. You just need to spread it, and it’s done."
She broke into a giggle and began to run around the farm, spraying the seeds as she did. It looked inviting enough, and soon, we got into a pattern. We ran around, laughing, and spraying the seeds all over.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw some pack members walking past the farm, stopping to stare at us. This was the most fun I had in a while. Even more fun because Ivy had managed to turn what was supposed to be an irritable punishment into quite an experience.
"This is so fun!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, as we sprayed the seeds all over.
"I know right?"
We continued like that, mindless of the crowd that had gathered to watch us. I didn’t care about anything or anyone at that moment. All I could focus on was the fun I was having.
After what felt like forever, I was actually having fun again.
"Sonia, did you know she also danced whilst she was spraying the seeds?"
"No, I didn’t actually know that. Could you please share more? And with an example please."
She laughed and brought her hand filled with the seeds to her head. She began to belly roll as she spread the seed from her head down. I threw my head back and began to laugh. She looked so funny doing that, but also very intriguing.
I was in awe of the fact she could belly roll so well. To share my appreciation of her dedication to make this experience as enticing as possible, I began to clap and hum.
My hunger long forgotten, I hummed for her as she danced around in circles, while spraying the seeds on the soil.
We were both having fun, ignorant of the crowd, when suddenly, heavy footsteps drafted into my ears. I lifted my head the same she did, and our eyes locked for a few seconds.
When our gazes separated we raised our heads to see that a crowd had gathered. I stopped, suddenly feeling shy.
The crowd began to split apart, and heavy footsteps began to sound again. My heart thundered because I already knew who it was even before I saw his face.
Ramon stepped forward, a scowl large enough to fit a dozen wolves, etched on his face. He looked straight at me and a shiver ran down my spine. He was either going to kill me, or have me crave death. There wasn’t any mercy in those eyes of his.
"See? I told you. I asked them to plant the flowers, and they turned the sacred ground into a mockery. Look at what they did to the land the pack farmers sweated to work.
They’ve destroyed it!" Lorena said, creeping up beside him.
"That’s not true. This is the best way to plant these flowers if we’re going to be using gold dust on them. Besides you’re the one that told us to ensure we finish by the end of the day. We were just trying to ensure we kept to your words," ivy stepped forward fearlessly. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
I wish I could have warned her to reign it in. I had seen Roman’s eyes. It wasn’t that of a man that was going to be merciful in his judgment.
I hated my wolf for reacting so shamelessly to him, despite how well he was able to control his emotions. Like a fool, I wanted him.
It took all I had to be able to stop my wolf from purring out to him. As if I wasn’t embarrassed enough as it stood.
"Did you hear her, Ramon? Look at how she’s talking to me!" she screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Enough!" he growled. "You," he pointed at me. "Follow me," he said and swiftly turned around.
I swallowed hard, knowing that I was well and truly in trouble.
