SONIA’S POV
"I can’t believe you still sneaked in all of this," Ivy chided Jake, as we sat at the big table in the kitchen, making the dough for pie.
"Leave him alone, Ivy. You told me you’ll tell me about the alpha kissing Ramon."
"Alpha Daisy is here?" The twins asked at the same time.
Jace, who insisted he was taking no part in our nonsense, stood at the entrance door, with his back turned against us. Yet, he couldn’t stop himself from jumping into our conversations, like right now.
I was also surprised everyone knew who the alpha was, even without having to mention her. I guess she was that popular, which only made her detest her just a little bit more.
Ivy laughed. "Yeah, she’s talking about Alpha Daisy. I tried to tell her the kiss means nothing, but she has it in her head that I’m only trying to defend the alpha."
"I understand your jealousy, Sonia. He’s your mate, so naturally, you would be jealous," Jake said, taking my side.
At this point, he would kiss my feet just for this apple pie I decided to make.
"You better be silent, and stop letting these women influence you. If the alpha hears you call her his mate, you’re dead. Mate my ass. If she was his mate, he wouldn’t toss her into isolation," Jace mumbled the last part under his breath.
"You—"
"Pay him no mind, Ivy," I stopped her before she could go off. It wasn’t like he had lied about anything.
Ramon didn’t want me for a mate, thankfully. "How does this look?" I asked, showing her how far I’ve gone.
"Really good. I didn’t believe you could do this before, but I’m starting to."
"Good, it’s your turn to tell me all about this alpha Daisy. What’s she like?"
"Nice," Ivy said.
"Beautiful," Jace added from the spot he stood.
"Kind," Jake said.
They all had such nice things to say about her. It made me wrinkle my nose in disgust. There had to be at least one annoying thing about her. She can’t be all that great. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"Who is she to Ramon?" I further questioned stubbornly.
"Oh Sonia, I already told you they’re great friends."
"I don’t know if it’s right to kiss a friend like that," I argued.
"Well in her pack, it is," Jake explained. "If you ever go to her pack, you’ll see they really do believe a kiss is the greatest portrayal of love and affection. Be it friendship, relationship, or just showing kindness. It’s no wonder they have the most peaceful pack across the seven packs."
She also had a peaceful pack? There was no belittling this woman. She seemed so awesome. I was just reluctant to admit it. Not me, but my jealous wolf. She wanted to poke holes until she found something to resent. Unfortunately, nothing was sticking.
I rose, and placed the mix in the oven. Just like every other part of the house, the kitchen had everything you could require. For a house built beside a cursed land, you could tell there were quite a lot of thoughts put into it.
"So you’re all saying she’s that great, huh?"
"She is. Unfortunately, you’ll never find out because you’re locked up here," Jace said mockingly.
"You’re enjoying my isolation, aren’t you?"
"He’s just happy to escape training, and bully women instead. All of that heftiness just to end up bickering with women? If I were you, I would be ashamed of myself," Ivy said.
"You better put a clip to your mouth, else I’ll do it for you."
An argument ensued, and I watched in silence without moving to stop it. After all, they had supported the alpha. She should stop them from fighting.
Jake looked at me and shook his head. "How are we supposed to survive this?" He mouthed.
"I don’t know." I shrugged.
It was getting too noisy, so I silenced their words by drifting into my mind. Even in my mind, I still couldn’t keep the alpha off it.
There was something about her that drew me to her. It was more than jealousy. I had always felt pulled to those in pain. But she had smiled a lot and didn’t look to be in any pain. What worry could an alpha possibly have?
Maybe I was really losing my mind about this woman. In my jealousy, I was finding a way to knock her down so I could feel better than her. Probably why my mind was making up an imaginary pain. There possibly wasn’t any pain. And if there was, it would be the one my wolf was in.
She was hurt by Ramon, and his many women. All of those women, yet he hated his fated mate.
Silently I prayed. I prayed for strength on my family, to defeat him in battle. I prayed that when push came to shove, there would be a settlement that frees me off this chain.
There was no life for me here, if the mate that was supposed to protect me couldn’t even stand me. I was better off back in my castle, where I at least had the protection of my family.
"What are you thinking about, Sonia?" I blinked when I saw a hand snap across my face.
"Huh?" I became conscious again, and noticed the bickering had settled.
"You two have made the peace?" I asked.
"Nope. Jake just took his brother outside."
I smiled. "You’re so fierce."
"I can’t help it."
I was about to respond when the air suddenly changed. We looked towards the door at the same time, and there Lorena was, with those maids that did her dirty job behind her.
"Don’t you know what to do when you see me?" She stormed forward before I could even react to her presence.
Raising her hand, she smacked me across the face. I heard Ivy gasp, but the sound was overcome by the ringing in my ears.
"What?!" She howled at Ivy.
"Why would you slap her like that?!" "My lady," she added when she discovered her tone was not very respectful.
"Are you questioning what I choose to do? I don’t blame you, Ivy. It’s Ramon who keeps giving you a voice in this pack. Anyway, he wants to see you. No, Daisy wants to see you."
I could hear the exchange, but my cheeks hurt too much to listen. With my hands on my face, I fought off the tears that sting in my eyes.
"Can I at least make sure she’s okay first?"
"No! I want you out of here now!" Lorena screamed, causing to flinch in fear.
"Please go," I whispered, hoping Ivy could hear me. "Go please."
I felt Ivy’s eyes on me, and then suddenly, she was gone.
"As for you," Lorena turned to me. "What is that I smell?" She began to sniff as the aroma of the pie filled the air.
"I don’t remember Ramon leaving any food here. Where did you get that, you thief!" She grabbed a fistful of my hair and began to pull it.
I screamed out in pain as the tears I struggled to keep fell freely now.
"Stop crying and tell me the truth!"
"My lady, it was me!" I heard a voice say. It was Jakes, and I couldn’t be more grateful for his interference.
She let me go, and walked up to him. Right in front of everyone, she slapped him across the face.
Now, I felt guilty for his interference. And as I sobbed silently, I cursed her in my heart.
