Healers Shouldn't be this Powerful

Chapter 37: More than meets the eye

Gladious’s head looked down. Fearing to look at Niklaus in the eyes. Next thing a hand came and wrapped itself around his neck. When he turned and saw his friend looking at him with a smile.

"Good to see you didn’t change over the years," Niklaus joked.

Soon noises from afar died out, only the echo of their feet breaking dead branches could be heard echo through the forest.

The deeper they went, the more alert the team became. Each taking a chance to peek at Daxi, looking for a slight change of expression but it was still calm, still this didn’t mean they could relax.

Zumba abruptly stopped, his unannounced halt had the team reaching out for their weapons. Blood had already started dripping off Moklaus fingers.

But contrary to what they expected. He drifted to the side, bent down and dug through the dead fallen leaves. Underneath he grabbed what appeared to be an old spear.

The shaft made of wood, dried up with mold and cobwebs covering it, the tip where steel should be, had what seems to have an obsidian blade. Shimmering like a rare jade. Niklaus and his team felt residual energy coming off it.

More importantly it came from the runes varved on the blade. Zumba looked at it for a moment, his eyes revealed deep focus then he went to the nearest tree and placed it upright.

With two fingers he torched the blade then tapped those two fingers on his forehead. Gorath then repeated his action, after tapping their his forehead, they resumed as though nothing happened.

Niklaus hurried to catch up to them. "What was that?"

Zumba turned and saw the little figure staring him in the eyes with his head turned. "That weapon fought, now it rests. I merely showed respect to it as well at its wilder"

"Ow, that’s interesting. Speaking of battles, this place looks scary, I can hardly sense any life from some distance." He looked at the dark tree trunks around him. Within them was faint life, growing within the dead exterior. Even the trees seem to be void of life. What’s the story here?" He asked.

Zumba looked at Gorath, then looked at Niklaus. "What happened here ?.... Big disgrace that’s what happened... anyways we are here."

Gorath immediately stopped along with Zuma

Niklaus looked around but still he saw nothing. He turned to ask where, only to find them glaring at the sky.

He followed their gaze and up top, under the blinding light of the two suns. He saw some structure, faint in its size due to the height it was built at. The colossal trees on their own looked like a metropolitan city with highrises/

"You know how to climb?" Gorath asked. Looking at the puzzled Niklaus and his team.

"Woah, that’s crazy!" Daxi said. She approached the dark side of the tree. The next moment she melted right into the trunk. The team stood there, waiting.

But in contrast to the calm raid team. The two hermits had their jaws wide. Despite being magical creatures, the magic of their world had a certain logic they understood. Like a person using a smartphone would seem like a wizard 100 years ago.

She then reemerged. "I checked, nothing to fear." Then she melted once more.

"You heard her, get moving." Matilda commanded. The two One Eyed were still shook by what they witnessed.

Then they got to see the team use their abilities to their full effect, Gladious just went towards the tree trunk then placed his foot on it. After seeing that it’s secure, he placed another foot. Then started to walk vertically upwards.

For the first time ever the team saw Matilda use her class skill. The wind around the area started to gather around her. Leaves made a swirling vortex like a small tornado. Next thing. She started to get propelled upwards.

Then the two shifted their attention to Niklaus, waiting to see what wondrous power he was about to unleash. Seeing this he could only shake his head. Then squared down, his leg muscles contracted.

Thighs grew in size. And some steam started to come off his body. In a flash, his body turned into blur, a streak of green light was then seen pouncing from one tree trunk to another.

"The rumours about their spectacular abilities seem to be true. It’s more amazing seeing them upfront" Then they started to climb with practiced precision. Once they made it on top everyone was already sat. Recovering from the Grand Laeken.

The hideout was nothing special. Just some woods and put together for shelter and not comfort. The crude design spoke of their limited and weak architectural skill. There was no furnishing. Just a makeshift sleeping area made of dead leaves, makeshift stools and a fireplace.

Gladious looked at Niklaus who sat at the edge looking at the barely distinguishable ground. "Say Niklaus, I remember you threaten Crato, promising to grow the cancerous cells in the Sacta’s bodies... I’m curious, while we fought, why not do that to the beasts?"

Niklaus took one last look at the ground, then his attention returned back to the Treehouse. A small fire was lit, but it was done using an artifact that could just let out the heat without exposing the flame nor smoke.

He went and took a seat right opposite Gladious. "Well unlike the Sacta, the beasts we come across are awake and very much active" he replied.

Gladious raised an eyebrow. "What difference does that mean?"

"It means their cells were active as well, So I couldn’t do anything"

"Wait, what does cells have to do with anything?" He asked once more. Daxi sat there, having nothing else to do, she could only listen.

"Well Cells are like workers of the owner of the body and only listen to him." He answered. Then paused for a moment. "You didn’t understand didn’t you"

"Haaha, you got me, the more you speak, the more confused I get. I mean you heal us, doesn’t that mean our cells listen to you?"

Niklaus pickled up a leaf nearby, then ran his fingers along its edges. ""Think of every living cell as a worker. Even when you’re asleep, unconscious, or even after you’ve just died, most of your cells are still doing the jobs they were already given. They’re following their last instructions."

"I’m still lost"

"I figured" Niklaus Laughed

He tossed the leaf away. ""Healing is different. When I heal someone, I’m helping the cells do what they were already trying to do ...repair the body. I’m not forcing them." He paused before he continued

"By changing them , rewriting them, making them do something they aren’t meant to do..."

His expression became serious

"...That’s a fight"

"The stronger the will behind those cells, the harder they resist me"

"The parasite inside my parents is alive. It has its own purpose, its own instinct. It won’t just let me rewrite it."

Glasious nodded slowly. "The Sacta’s near dead bodies were like an empty house,"...while the parasite is a house with someone inside holding the door shut?" "

"Exactly!" Niklaus smiled
