Niklaus agreed with her, she was right. The place felt eerie. But at the same time he was curious about this mysterious city. Why was it hidden?
From the looks of it, the creator wasn’t even trying to stop people from coming inside, the barrier didn’t prevent any of them from entering.
Daxi walked to her leader, placed her hand on her shoulders. "I understand your concern, but this could be the one chance humans get to see this place. We aren’t scouts. We didn’t bring anything to tag this place.
And each time a bridge to this place opens is to another different location. Think of what we could possibly find here" She stretched her hand, pointing at the city situated at the distance.
"That thing looks impossible, It’s too advanced, We can’t even call it futuristic any more. There could be something that would bring our civilization to a new height" She spoke with passion.
Matilda could see determination within Daxi’s eyes. With her hand, she pushed Daxi’s hands off her shoulders. "Don;t make me regret this" Her voice was low, as if trying to warn herself. When the group heard her, their eyes brightened.
"This changes everything, the info we had on the report no longer holds value. Place your minds on high alert, and as soon as you hear or see something report it to the group" She laid her order.
The raid team agreed. Then they started to walk around the silver river. Walking towards the nearest bridge connected to the city" What was odd about this place was its unsettling silence. No chirps on birds or hum of machines.
The illumination was warm like the evening sunlight yet there was no light source in sight. The team held their weapons at the ready, their eyes shifting at every moment. Soon their footsteps could be heard clanging on the metal bridge.
Their footsteps echoing in the distance as though in a large hall. "This is creepy," Glasious spoke in a hushed voice. Yet his eyes carried the wonder of a child who just went to the candy store.
After approximately twenty minutes, they made it to the main island. Before them was a behemoth of a tower, and this one just one of thousands buildings in the city. "Ok, now what, there’s no sign of an entrance anywhere" Niklaus could help but ask.
The buildings seem to have no entrances or windows. Just as the team was wondering. The lights in the city started to dim. This sudden action had the hearts of everyone racing. "Wha.. what’s happening, did anyone see anything" Gladious panic, already moving the mana inside his body.
Soon every building was dimmed but then one building at a distance started to shine brighter. The city seems to have sensed new visitors and is reacting to them.
The raid team looked at each other. Matilda was the first to speak. "So far everything has gone smooth, but how sure are we that we won’t be walking into a trap?" Her eyes moved around her team mates.
They all seem to be hesitant. They were way out of their heads. Sure looting would be great, but a successful raid is not in the kind of loot you gain in your raid. But a successful raid is when you live to raid another day.
There was a saying in the raider world for newbies. "You aren’t truly a raider till you have your first successful extraction".
As though sensing their hesitation, all the lights in the city went off. Including one from the brightly lit building. Then in another moment, the group saw the scene before them change.
They were brought to a world, much like their own, humanoid creatures living their lives normally. People coming and going, devices in their hands, nothing out of the normal, then the scene changed again.
The world seem to have changed. They saw the same beings again, but this time, they seemed different somehow, the way they walked, interacted with the world. It seems like fear was evident in each of their action.
Like death was around the corner. The world looked gloomy and lifeless yet nothing happened. Then the scene changed once more. This time, there was rubble everywhere, fire spread at a distance.
Screams filled the world. Everyone was running, just as the group wondered what was going on. They saw a creature coming from one of the collapsed buildings, holding a victim in its hand. Then crushed the head like it was made of spunge.
The group was starting to get curious why the City was showing them these images. The scene changed once more. The world was still in flames. Bodies littered the ground. From a distance you can see one or two humanoids run around then a laser penetrate their hearts.
There seems to be no end to this tragedy. No hope to the natives of the world shown. Then suddenly as one of the natives was about to be killed. Something came down from the sky, plummeting right where the native was about to die.
The next moment the monster that was about to kill the native got sliced into two. The smoke from the object disappeared revealing one of the natives. Niklaus narrowed his eyes as soon as the native appeared.
’That presence, that aura he’s giving off, that is clearly an awakened. Is this the time this civilization has awakened?’ He wondered. Soon the awakened native went into a rampage, killing any beast, monster or enemy that came his way.
The scene gets dark, then a new one comes soon after. What was before then almost had their eyes pop out.
It seems like the civilization in the images had the same progress as theirs. The technology before them looks closely similar to theirs. The world was at peace. But the world was clearly made with awakeners in mind.
Seeing this brought new questions in the minds of the raid team. It made them think of the trajectory of their world.
