Vael came to the kitchen table on a Wednesday morning.

Not for tea — they had been having tea at the kitchen table most mornings for three months and the presence of tea was not itself significant. But the specific quality of this arrival was different from the morning tea.

Vael sat across from him with the clear eyes and the specific posture of someone who had been preparing to ask something for a while and had decided today was the right day.

He waited.

"I have been reading the documentation," Vael said. "Dael’s pattern work. Calder’s pre-System translations. Sera’s history." They paused. "Ask," he said.

He looked at them.

"Yes," he said. "I think so."

The civilization’s fear confirmed.

Not malice.

Fear.

And the healing work — the correction function demonstrating the resolution — demonstrating what specifically.

That enough was enough.

That the between-space’s presence, honestly received, provided what civilization needed without extraction.

The healing demonstrating not just the absence of extraction.

"The curriculum Kel is writing," he said. "How to live in the presence honestly." He paused. "What the honest participation looks like." He paused. "The coal and the ordinary work and the specific choices." He paused. "The underlying thing the curriculum needs to teach — " he paused. "Sufficiency." He paused. "The between-space is enough. What participation with the between-space provides is enough." He paused. "Not the institutional suppression’s version of enough — not the Church’s assigned Level and the declared ceiling." He paused. "The actual sufficiency." He paused. "The between-space present and the honest participation sufficient for the full life." He paused. "The fear that drove the extraction resolved by the return of the between-space itself." He paused. "The return demonstrating: this is enough." He paused. Vael was very still.
