The bullet whizzed past Evelyn, so close that she could feel the rush of air against her skin. Her mind went blank for a second, the sheer terror of it freezing her in place. But luckily, it didn’t hit her. Instead, it grazed her arm, the sharp sting of the wound snapping her back to reality.

"Eva!" Zevian’s voice cut through the chaos, his strong arms pulling her out of the line of fire before the girl could take another shot.

John, who had already settled in the driver’s seat, tensed hearing his master’s voice. His eyes darted to the rearview mirror, assessing the situation. Luckily, their car was heavily bulletproof, and the stray bullet had ricocheted off the top of the vehicle with a dull thud. But the outside noises of the crowd that had gathered at the scene were enough to startle Kiana, who stirred in the backseat.

"M-mommy?" Kiana’s soft, sleepy voice broke the tension. Her eyes fluttered open, confusion and fear mingling in her innocent gaze.

Evelyn gasped, clutching her arm as blood trickled down. The pain was sharp but not unbearable. Zevian immediately turned to her, his hands hovering over her wound. "Are you okay?" His voice was tense, his eyes darkening with a mix of anger and worry.

"I’m fine," she whispered, though her arm throbbed, weakening her senses.

Zevian’s gaze snapped to the girl standing a few meters away, her hands still trembling as she pointed the gun at them again. His jaw clenched as he took a step forward, positioning himself between Evelyn and the armed child.

"Stop it while I’m being patient, Emily!" Zevian’s voice was sharp, filled with an authority that made the girl flinch. Evelyn frowned, the name tugging at the edges of her memory. Emily...? She knew that name!

It hit her like a ton of bricks—Emily Grey. Natalie and Dominic’s adopted daughter. She had been sent away to boarding school last year. What was she doing here?

The girl’s hands trembled violently, her face twisted in anger and confusion. "No! It’s all because of her! She ruined everything! My parents... they’re... they’re divorcing, and it’s all her fault! I will kill her!"

Evelyn’s heart clenched as she heard the pain in the girl’s voice. But before she could say anything, Zevian stepped forward again, his voice harder now. "Emily Grey, drop the gun."

For a brief second, it looked like the girl might listen, her grip loosening slightly. But just as she raised the gun again, another car screeched to a stop beside them. The door flew open, and Dominic rushed out, his face pale with horror.

"Emily!" Dominic’s voice boomed across the parking lot as he dashed toward his daughter. In one swift motion, he reached her and grabbed the gun from her hand, pulling her into his arms. Emily sobbed, her small body shaking as Dominic held her tightly, his face a mix of shock and guilt.

"What the hell is she doing here?!" Zevian grumbled at his once brother-in-law and close friend.

Dominic could only sigh in reply. He was caught up in another city because of a meeting, giving his mother Sabrina the perfect opportunity to get her granddaughter. He had no clue what she spewed to Emily but the girl someone tracked Evelyn’s location and arrived here with a gun, in a cab!

"I am sorry," Dominic uttered but Zevian didn’t respond. His focus shifted back to Evelyn, whose arm was now bleeding heavily. John had already moved to their side, his eyes darting between Evelyn and Zevian.

"Sir, we need to get her to a hospital," John urged, his voice calm but firm. Zevian’s eyes flashed with concern as he turned to Evelyn, his hand already moving to lift her up.

Without a word, Zevian scooped Evelyn into his arms, cradling her gently as he rushed toward the hospital entrance. Kiana, wide awake now, rubbed her eyes and peeked out of the car window. Fear clouded her innocent features as she watched her father carrying her mother back into the building.

"Uncle Johny, what happened?!" Kiana’s small voice called out, trembling with worry.

John paused for a moment, his attention snapping to Kiana. He quickly opened the car door and picked her up, holding her close as he hurried after Zevian into the hospital. "Nothing, Young Miss. Your Mommy is just a little hurt, she will be fine." John reassured her, though his voice was strained with worry.

Outside the hospital, Dominic glared at Emily, his expression hardening. He passed the gun to his assistant and grabbed Emily’s hand, dragging her inside the hospital. They couldn’t leave until making sure Evelyn was fine and Natalie was here too.

Meanwhile, in William’s VIP ward, Sophia’s lips curled into a smug smile as she quietly retrieved a bottle of juice she had prepared earlier. "Here, honey," she cooed, her voice dripping with false sweetness as she approached William. "I brought you some fresh juice. It’s good for your recovery."

William didn’t even glance her way. "No thanks," he muttered, his tone cold and dismissive. "Evelyn and the doctors have already arranged a dietitian. You shouldn’t worry about my meals."

Sophia’s smile faltered, her irritation barely contained. From the corner of the room, Elias watched the exchange with barely concealed amusement. He couldn’t help but smirk, enjoying the sight of his mother’s plans falling apart again. But his amusement was short-lived.

His phone buzzed, and he quickly glanced at the screen. The message made his heart drop, a curse left his mouth.

"What’s wrong?" William asked, noticing his son’s sudden change in demeanor.

Elias swallowed hard, his eyes widening in disbelief. "Evelyn... Evelyn’s been shot."

William’s eyes narrowed, his body tensing as he leaned forward. "What?!" Panic flashed across his face as he struggled to sit up.

"Someone shot her," Elias repeated, his voice thick with disbelief. "Kiana’s bodyguard just texted me. She’s in the emergency room."

William’s heart raced as he swung his legs off the bed. "Let’s go. We need to see her."

Sophia moved quickly to block him, grabbing his arm gently. "William, you’re still recovering. You shouldn’t be moving around!"

William shook her off, his face hard with determination. "I don’t care." Looking at his son, he added, "Take me to her!"

Elias rushed to help his father, supporting him as they hurried out of the room, leaving Sophia behind, stunned and speechless.

In one of the emergency wards, Kiana’s loud cries filled the room as the doctor carefully tended to Evelyn’s wound. Zevian stood beside them, his face tense, refusing to leave Evelyn’s side despite the doctor’s requests.

"Please, both of you need to wait outside while we finish," the doctor said, trying to maintain his calm despite Kiana’s wails.

"I’m not leaving her," Zevian said flatly, his eyes dark as he stood beside Evelyn’s bed.

Kiana, who was now in her daddy’s arms, nodded, agreeing with him. Wiping her tears furiously, she scolded the doctor, "Be gentle with my mommy! I’ll sue you if you make her cry again!" The little girl’s fierce words caused Evelyn to smile, even through the pain.

"Kiana..." Evelyn sighed, shaking her head slightly. She glanced at Zevian, and despite the tension in the room, a small chuckle escaped her lips as they glared at the poor doctor. They both shared the same thought—Kiana was truly their daughter.

The doctor quickly finished treating the wound, placing fresh bandages over it. "The cut was deep, so you’ll need to take care of it properly," he advised before stepping out of the room.

Evelyn barely had time to process the pain before Elias and William entered, their faces etched with worry. "You should be resting," Evelyn scolded softly, though her voice lacked its usual strength.

William shook his head, his eyes softening. "I’ll rest when I know you’re okay."

Before anyone could say anything more, the door swung open, and Avery walked in, followed closely by Natalie and the Elder Wright couple. Dominic, who had been waiting outside, entered behind them, his expression grim.

Dominic glanced at his daughter, who stood by the door, her face stubborn and defiant. "Emily," he said quietly, his voice thick with regret. "Apologize to Evelyn. Now."

Emily’s lips tightened into a thin line, her eyes blazing with anger. She shook her head defiantly, refusing to look at Evelyn.

Dominic sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. But before he could say anything more, Avery snapped. "This is ridiculous," she growled, stepping forward. "You’ve pampered her so much that she’s become a brat."

"Avery—" Rosalind tried to intervene, but Avery cut her off, her voice laced with fury.

"No, Aunt Rosalind. She needs to learn her lesson," Avery said coldly. "I’ve already called the police. They’re on their way."

Emily’s face twisted in defiance as she spat, "I don’t care! She ruined my parents! They’re divorcing because of her, and she deserves to die!"

Dominic’s hand twitched, ready to scold her, but before he could, Natalie stepped forward, grabbed Emily’s arm, and spun her around. The sound of the slap echoed through the room, freezing everyone in place.
