Evelyn’s breath hitched, her heart racing wildly. She closed her eyes, her body heated up at his words, the raw desire and intensity in his tone sending shivers down her spine. She could feel the pulse of her heart quicken, but she fought it, struggling to maintain some semblance of control.

Zevian kissed her forehead, his expression softening with understanding. "You don’t deserve that, Eva. You’ve done nothing but love him all these years." His voice was soothing, but the anger in his eyes betrayed the depth of his feelings.

"You could have easily picked on him for what his mother did to you. But you didn’t... And he should at least keep that in mind."

"I just... I don’t understand him anymore," Evelyn whispered, her voice cracking slightly as tears formed in the corner of her eyes. She felt herself slipping further into the abyss of confusion and hurt.

Zevian’s hand tightened around hers as he pulled her even closer, wrapping her in his embrace. "We’ll figure it out, I promise." He whispered the words, but there was certainty in his voice. He would make sure of it of this mess. No matter what it took!

They lay in silence for a few moments, just listening to the sound of each other’s breathing, the only comfort they could find in the chaos surrounding them.

Zevian broke the silence after a while, his voice light and teasing as he shifted the mood. "What do you say we get away from all this for a while? Take a day just for us?"

Evelyn smiled faintly, the thought of escaping the weight of everything for a moment bringing her some much-needed solace. "That sounds perfect," she replied softly, feeling her body relax against him. "Just you and me... no drama. No scheming. No one else."

Zevian smiled as he kissed the top of her head, his voice a low murmur. "And no third wheel too!"

Evelyn chuckled and nodded in response. And with that, they slowly drifted off to sleep, tangled in each other’s arms, finding peace in the quiet of the night.
