The Billionaire's Rental Wife Is A Hot Shot

Damien’s and Zevian’s cars stopped right behind them, their engines roaring as the cars in front of them started honking and blazing loudly. The team consisting of only six more men were quickly dispatched, making sure to call for more backup. They lined in front of Evelyn’s car, at a few meters distance away from the cars ahead. Soon men came out of the cars, both sides pointing guns at each other.

Damien, Ronan, and Zevian got down, weapons ready in their hands. They passed Evelyn’s car and stood in front of the their team, on high guard and challenging the other team to make a move first.

"Madam, please stay in the car. Don’t get out at any cost," the driver murmured, checking his gun. Taking it, he got down too, knowing they had few men right now and whoever attacked them seemed like a big gang.

Evelyn nodded, holding onto Elias tightly. "We will be fine. Don’t worry," she tried to calm him, her eyes searching for Zevian. They fixed on his back as he stood beside Damien, with Ronan on the other side. She just hoped all of them would be alright.

The five cars turned off their lights, men getting down quickly. One of them rushed to open the door for the red car in the middle.

The trio pointed their guns, ready to fire if there was movement from the other side. They frowned when they saw a man wearing a tight tiger-printed shirt and black jeans walk out. He had the ensemble that only the mafia organization Lucas wore, and the scar on his cheek was slightly visible under the streetlights.

"Maverick?" Damien was the first to guess, his eyes fixed on the scar on his cheek. It was given by Gracia when she was attacked, but they couldn’t just confirm it because Maverick had never been out of his shadows. No one except for his closest allies knew his face.

"Yes, that’s me," Maverick answered, casually leaning on his car’s front. He glanced at the trio, knowing each one quite well.

"Looks like Lobos has been pampering you a lot," Ronan commented with a snicker. Just a few months ago, he was someone without money or power, just a mere mobster trying to have a breakthrough. But ever since he encountered Lobos, he had flourished a lot.

"Of course. He is marrying that old man’s daughter after all," Zevian commented, his words shocking Maverick. When their eyes met, Zevian smirked, making him slightly wary of what other things he had dug about him.

After Sophia sent him away to Arab, he had accidentally met the Lobos’ eldest daughter who was on her trip. They bonded very quickly, and when she accepted him knowing all his flaws, knowing that he was not a rich Arab businessman like she thought, also knowing that he already had a son, he couldn’t just ignore the jackpot. While Sophia treated him like a slave, Serene made him feel worthy of himself, and he had decided to move on with her.

"I am not here to start a war," Maverick started, intending to end this peacefully. Glancing at Zevian, he continued, "And you must have already discovered I have cut ties with Sophia. I don’t care even if you kill her, just hand over my son back."

"Son?" Ronan murmured with a frown.

"Yes, my son!" Maverick replied. Looking at the car these mafia kingpins were trying to protect, he realized Elias must be inside and added, "I won’t let you use him as your pawn to get her." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Ronan grew even more confused but slowly realized what he meant. Damien and Zevian exchanged glances, having made such theories already. For Maverick to be so desperately clung to Sophia all these years, there must be something holding him back, and they had guessed it must be Elias. But since they never got to test the DNA between William and Elias, they couldn’t confirm it.

They turned around and glanced at Elias inside the car, their looks making the poor guy sigh out loud.

"Who are they? What do they want?" Evelyn murmured, trying to look at the boss on the other side, but she couldn’t see him properly.

Elias heaved a shaky breath again, having already foreseen this outcome. The reason he had subtly left hints for her to recognize that it was him, that it had been him all along who helped her, was to escape this situation. He hoped maybe his sister would help him from his father, who was hell-bent on taking him away. But now it seemed like it would be at the cost of innocent lives, and he wanted no more blood on his hands.

"They are here for me," Elias slowly murmured. When Evelyn turned to him, he added, "It’s Maverick, and he is here for me."

"Ah, your mom must have sent for you." Evelyn tried to guess, still confused since Maverick had cut ties with her. Did they patch up? Holding onto his hand, she added, "Don’t worry. I will never let him take you away."

"Even after knowing that I am not a Wright?" Elias asked, his question shocking Evelyn.

"Wh-what do you mean, Eli?"

"I am his son, sis." Elias replied, his smile sad and hurt. Maverick is my father and not William Wright,"

"And if I don’t go with him, he will only try to harm you," he added, tears forming in his eyes.

"I am sorry if it hurt you more," Elias added with a sigh. Both of his parents had tried to kill her mother. They did everything to destroy her, to make him take over a spot that never actually belonged to him.

Before Evelyn could process it, he continued, "And thank you for loving me as your own brother all these years." His eyes were moist, barely holding back the emotions swirling in his heart. Taking a deep breath, he opened the door and walked out of the car.
